      I saw him at the Sydney Town Hall playing bee bop on a tuba and with one hand and jazz piano with the other simultaneously. He professionally also plays sax, cornet & trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone, clarinet, euphonium and double bass, and when I say play, I mean at a world class level. He also has a great understanding of musical history, which he often shares during his performances. In fact, he can, if he wishes, place the title Professor before his name, because he had taught for many years as adjunct professor at an Australian university.

    • @Embattled5211
      @Embattled5211 4 года назад +86

      I play the trumpet, and once you get into higher registers, you end up changing notes mainly with your embouchure, only fiddling with the first valve.
      In the close up, you can see Morrison pressing down the trigger. Combine (maybe) the higher range, the trigger, and "bending" the notes to make them sharper and flatter, you get some crazy skills.
      Then again, I could just be talking out my ass. This man clearly has more talent than I'm going to get with my casual attitude, and put on a great show.

    • @trombonedude5312
      @trombonedude5312 3 года назад +46

      Your band instructor doesn't know anything about trombones then. You use lip trills, like really fast lip slurs, to trill. It's a pretty advanced technique, so if you're a beginner I understand why your band instructor didn't explain them, but saying that trombones can't play trills is just plain wrong.

    • @trombonedude5312
      @trombonedude5312 3 года назад +22

    James Morrison is amazing...really amazing, i think that maybe he's the only musician in the world who can play such a great variety of instruments...and playing all of them soo well!!
    Said that, i don't feel any 'vibration' listening to him...especially in performances like the one in here, i really can't touch the soul, the feeling of music..the music is reduced to an "amazing freak show"!..extraordinary player though, nothin to say about it

    I knew trigger trombones help a lot with range and such, but I had no clue they allowed so much flexibility in one position

    • @Novacreeper231
      @Novacreeper231 Год назад

      well a trigger a trombone is actually slightly harder to play high notes on as it has a larger bore but the trigger allows him to play more notes in between and also hes so good that high notes arent a problem XD
