yes Rhys you could use a knife. On the whole using a sharp knife can brighten the sound of a dull reed and using wet and dry paper or a file is a quicker way of making a buzzy reed less wild. Is it because you prefer to work with the lamp than the dial indicator micrometer? A video on how to use the dial indicator micrometer for consistency would be helpful.
