I think I get why they chose to not show the scene the way it is in the novels. Lawrence negotiating on his own feels like a way for the writers to show him reclaiming his pride by solving the problem setup in the earlier episodes.

As for the length of the two names, yes, they read the same length in English. However, in Japanese, it sounded like Nora actually has three beats (the "o" is long) where Holo only has two.

I agree i did half expect them to show Lawrance blackmailing Remereo while he is in Holos maw. But i guess its a bit too graphic...alas. Should have at least kept the part in where Holo jumps the wall, which is kind of an important point going forwards for Lawrance realizing they can basicly always just run from any situation is a backup which he keps in his mind and therefore gives him more opportunity to take on more risk.
On a sidenote i cant imagine them skipping the Pyrite arc. Its pretty good and gives a lot of context.

Agree with everything you said. Especially the change with Remerio. But as others have pointed out the title for next week is "Supper of thee afternoon of two"
You're right that the next arc is the Iron Pyrite one. It should be a really visually beautiful arc if the last couple episodes were anything to go by.
Minor spoiler but not really: Other then Holo being Hungry at the very start of Book 3 (But, when isn't Holo Hungry though? So not really spoiling anything there lol) they'd need to be changing things up a bit if that title was going to fit with the start of book 3. I do anticipate them changing a few things in the next arc, but those changes shouldn't be in the first episode.
Sort of almost Spoilers, but more so things I anticipate changing in the next arc compared to the light novel (The manga skipped book 3 - mostly. It covered a few key details in flashbacks. Just enough to make the detour arc of book 4 make sense) or the original anime... Speculation territory
I think the guy in the town square in Poroson that was talking about a town in the North that worshiped a wolf where Lawrence overheard something that we the audience didn't get to hear in episode 7 will come back up again at some point in the next arc (which itself will be a change cause that's not what happened in any previous version. So I could very well be wrong). Plus the information Lawrence learns in this next arc pertaining to the upcoming journey North will have to be different from the original anime. Since in the books the whole detour from the main journey that is Book 4 was based on information Lawrence learns in book 3. The original anime skipped book 4, so Lawrence learned some different information in the original anime that did not lead them on their little detour. So assuming they adapt book 4 this time, that part will have to play more like the light novel then how the original anime did it. But I see zero reason to change the opening chapter of book 3 to fit that episode title. That's why I assume that we are NOT jumping straight into book 3 and the second cour next week.
What that title fits a lot better with is the original Spice and Wolf anime OVA 2, which was an adaptation of the Book 7 short story 'Wolf and amber Melancholy'
Which is totally great in my book. Fantastic little short slice of life episode, narrated by Holo in the book. So a rare glimpse into her head and seeing the world from her perspective. Very fun. Most of the story is narrated by Lawrence so we usually are seeing things from his perspective.
So unless that is a really misleading title for next week, it does look like this first cour is the 13 episode cour, and we are getting one more episode with Nora.

Even if Lawrence isn't really a fighter, he probably have enough adrenaline running because of the events of that night to flip a table or two. Or Holo could "go wait at the bar" after the tying up happens, which would be a funny dynamic there. Just "ok I'm done you do your thing bye" and leaving the room just before this point. xD

I don't get this whole thing about Lawrance having to convince Holo not to attack the Shepherdess.
Holo is not a wolf - as in: an animal. It's not like she's instinctually driven to mindlessly attack.
She is a reasonable being. Why would this even be up to a debate?
Unless they made it a point that, in her wolf form. she is overcome by animalistic instincts she has a hard time controlling - but since this is never said (or written) it just doesn't make sense.
Guess there must have been a lot lost in translation.
Also: Holo (Ho Ro) is shorter than Norah (No o Ra (or No-Ra)) in Japanese, so it makes sense.

    • @superionmaximus9900
      @superionmaximus9900 Месяц назад +4

"She is a reasonable being." - You're talking about Holo, right?
Holo is not at all reasonable. She's down right underhanded and devious. How many times has Lawrence been punched for tying to reason with her so far?
She's also often very demanding to the point of being childish. She pulls it off as cute, but she's pretty toxic at times.
Also, Holo is very animistic in her thinking all the time. Even in human form. That's also part of the reason she gets away with being so unreasonable. She thinks and acts like a wolf even in human form a lot of the time.
She's also a deity used to being worshiped so she's pretty selfish at times as well.
Though she does also have unwavering loyalty to those she cares about. Wolves are social animals and form very deep lifelong bonds with pack members. They are collaborative, and self sacrificing for the greater good of the pack. But Holo is without her pack. She's a lone wolf. That's why the questions 'What are you to me Lawrence?" "What am I to you?" come up again and again to Holo throughout the story. Holo is seeking that pack bond she's been missing for centuries.
It is in the books that when in wolf form, Holo is still there, and conscious and aware, but also she is more instinct driven. She is more animal like in her wolf form, and she's pretty wolf like in her human form.
Her and Lawrence are 'dating' at this point because Holo literally growled at him and told him to tell Jacob that '... we are lovers!' That's a pretty wolf like way to declare you're dating someone if you ask me lol
Even excluding all that, Holo is a girl. Even without Nora being a shepherd, Holo has over heard from a reliable source (Jacob) that Nora is Lawrence's type. Lawrence teased Holo about Nora falling for him. That means the thought crossed Lawrence's mind at least once. That is not all but that alone is more then sufficient proof for any human girl to see Nora is a potential rival for Lawrence's affections. So add that part into the mix, and it's pretty easy to see why Holo was not super keen on saving Nora, and Lawrence feared that she might kill her lol
Hope that helps clear it up a little

@@superionmaximus9900 I get your point but I still think that wether or not Nora should be killed should not even be asked. It's a question that should at no point even have been on the table. Shouldn't have been brought up. Not attacking Nora should be a self-evident, forgone conclusion. A given.
It's shocking to me that this whole thing even needed to be brought up at all.
Even though she did not harm her - the very fact that it was ever up for debate, no matter the reason, should be a huge red flag for Lawrance - and her even bringing it up should be more than enough of a reason for Lawrance to demand to split ways.
But hey, maybe that's just me.
I guess Holo must be in to upper-right corner of the Craziness/Hotness scale.
Not quite in the Danger zone but still barely in teh "Date Zone", from Lawrances perspective, at least. LOL.

    • @superionmaximus9900
      @superionmaximus9900 Месяц назад +2

@@gunsmithcat7542 At that point Holo had no particular desire to kill Nora though. Holo was just slightly indifferent towards the idea of saving her at first simply because that was a lower priority to her at that moment vs getting revenge on Remerio. But it took very little convincing from Lawrence to change her mind. So clearly her position on the matter was not firm. Still though, it's a bit of a distinction between not really caring if that pretty little shepherd girl dies vs. wanting to actually kill that pretty little shepherd girl.
The unreasonable, underhanded and devious part was Holo holding out for praise and promises of delicious treats. But she was just humiliated a few minutes earlier by a teenager so we'll let her need of a self esteem boost pass in that case lol
Holo was concerned that Nora and Enek would view HER as an enemy, not that she would go out of her way to attack them.
Lawrence was afraid that Holo would lose control and kill Nora and Enek. That was HIS fear. Nothing to do with Holo at all.
Holo knew she wasn't going to kill Nora.
As far Holo's mind... stay tuned for next week. If I am right about next week being a book 7 short story, you will get a VERY good look inside her head next week. Mind you, they are literal fever dreams, but still. We'll very much be in Holo's mind next week.
Holo is also described in the books as very attractive. Like you'd mistake her for a noble pretty. So yeah, the hotness does also partly make up for the crazy as well.

i really do wonder if they could actually manage to shorten LN 3, 4 and 5 into the second half of the season. The more i think about it i can see them trimming 1 episode from the Iron pyrite arc and 1 episode from the fur trading. 2 Episodes seem low for the grain village arc but if they maybe sneak in a double lenght finale the dequivalent of 3 epsodes should be enought to tell that mini arc.
Basicly 1 ep of them ariving, getting to the chruch etc. 2nd epsiode is going them looking a bit into the church and realising what the miller is up to and the main problem flairing up. 3rd would be them resolving the main plot with holos magic.
