You were in a predominantly Malay area, you will not find pork there . Islam prohibits the consumption of pork (and everything derived from it) for Muslims and its not just eating. Touching it is also avoided. No touching rule often is followed by distancing. May seem extreme but its all about faith and devotion. Theres a lot more to the rule and can be complicated maybe even bizarre to foreigners and even to non Muslim Malaysians. Personally i love restrictions there's something calming and in-control about setting boundaries.
