The Peugeot 205 GTI was much loved in its time but is still incredibly fun to drive.

It is not a Porche, it is not a Ferrari, it is just another man sharing the passion for his car.
At least this guy and Porsche drivers actually drive their cars and appreciate them half the Ferrari drivers are too scared to even go near a track or drive them fast
I think the 205 GTI is the best car Peugeot has ever made.
It IS the best car Peugeot ever made.
Matthew Conway 309 GTI wasn't bad either.
it was until the rcz R came out!
best car ever made!!!!!
I'm 17 and I decided that since I can realistically only have a car with a small engine, I had to have something a bit different. A lot of my friends are starting to drive now. One has a 2005 Polo, one has a 2003 Seat Ibiza and another has a 1999 Corsa. Those cars just don't inspire me at all. My dad has always worked with cars and he recently purchased a 1992 Peugeot 205 Style 1.1 5dr with the intention of selling it on for more money. It was perfect in every way, one previous owner who had dry stored it its entire life. I just had to have it, I couldn't let it go to someone else. So fast forward to now, I'm learning to drive in it. Its absolutely beautiful and I cannot wait to take it out on the road by myself.
I heard it is very fun to drive, more than the 1.4. In France they were everywhere
the pug 205 has to be one of the nicest hatchback cars ever produced.😀
Rally 205 t-16 actually has very little to do with normal 205. They share windscreen, headlights and tail lights, that's about it
+Rentta
They didnt only race with the t16, they used FWD 205's in rally as well.
***** I assumed he meant t16 because that is the famous one.
+Rentta i dont think you heard what he said, he just referred to the t16 to compare the design of the rims
Petrolicious...?
+Olof L Exactly what I was thinking. Not complaining though. Will complain that they never brought these to the states though. Would love me one.
+Olof L Damn was thinking the same too haha!
+Rene “Kris” Hourian The 205 gti came out in 84 so you could import one at a very large premium :)
Deadguy1988 It's actually not that expensive to ship cars. Still I live in California, apparently it's still pretty much impossible here.
I just fell for your profile picture.
This is my dream car! Has been for over 10 years now! I would absolutely love to own one of these!
that thing is immaculate ,nice car ,keep it up!!
Beautiful car and nice video. I had 3 Peugeots, and learned to drive in my father's 404. I had a 1984 504 cabriolet, a 1998 306 cabriolet and a 2004 406 coupé....you are right, one fall in love with Peugeot (or French for that matter), hard to explain to someone not used to them. All my Peugeots were styled by Pininfarina, the Italian connection. Peugeot left the South Africa for a few years because of sanctions in the 1980's....we never got these 205's, unfortunately. Willem Human
A true timeless classic! Bought mine new all the way back in 86 from Chiswick Peugeot and boy was this one of the most fun cars I ever owned...the handling, the rev happy engine and just the time we were living in....great memories...
I had this model and colour car in my early 20’s on a “G” plate. After a hard day at work I would choose the longer route home and because this car is so much fun to drive, I would have a huge smile on my face. 😀
I've an 88 1.6 rally car in white... 115bhp of fun and smiles.
Quaife gear kit with lsd 4.8 cwp, so very short geared ( top speed 110mph) -1.9 rear axle -racing pedal box - bias valve ... such a fun car.
Stunning! By far my favourite car
I have the same exact car ! Same color. The only difference is the steering wheel on the left ;)
It's nice to see other people with the same passion.
This car is such a plaisir to drive, even at low speed. So responsive, so oversteery, so light. I also have a gt86 and if one day (hope not), i have to choose beetween the two, i will keep my 205 gti with no hesitation.
Its Christian von Koenigsegg!
+Joel Ryan Lol just because he is bold...
+Joel Ryan he isnt fat
+Joel Ryan That comment really got me going... LOOOOOOOOOOOL
+Mr Moses He's British DOE?
+Joel Ryan some say you mean
Hey guys I own a Mk1 Golf Gti that I use as my daily driver, its completely original from the factory but shows the 134,000 miles that it has done. I was wondering if I should ask Xcar if they would be keen to come see it or something. It is not immaculate at all to be fair but it works like a charm. I'm 20 years old and perhaps the youngest person in the UK to own a Mk1 Gti so I thought it'd be interesting because these videos always show people once they've reached there car dream rather than people who are at the start of there automotive journey through life. Either way awesome video and a lovely Peugeot !
This could literally be Petrolicious #2
No complaints from me though!
I have 1991 XS, great car, very nimble, great feeling behind the wheels..
The 80's and 90's cars are the best of me, love small "devil" cars like the 205 gti/rallye/xs, ax gt/gti/sport, corsa gt/joy/gsi, polo g40, 106 xs/xsi/rallye/Gti, Punto GT, Uno Turbo I.E. R5 GTT/GTE, Clio Rti/Rsi/16v/Williams...
Best 80s and 90s hot hatch.
i owned nine 205 gti's bloody love them!!!!!!!
Brings back some great memories of my 1.6 GTI. My first car was a 309 SRI which had the same engine as the 205 GTI but with slightly lower insurance cost. Thanks for the vid!
i had a 92 white 1.6 gti as my first car at 18 too. this brought loads of memories back. awesome car.
Nice vid 🙂
Sold my 1.6 gti in sorrento green back in 06. Found it on ebay last week and won the auction yesterday. Coming home after 8 owners and 15years 😂
The saxo vtr is the french to have. Or the 106 rallye they are just so much more fun...
I seen one of these done 896k miles and still running! 👍😃
My 182 trophy isn’t going anywhere. Great vid!
A complete Legend
Hated these in the day but so want one now.
French 80s hot hatches are brilliant
Owned 1.6 and 1.9 both 👍🏻
I also had a Renault 5GT Turbo which I loved as well
I’m a ford man had 5 series one rs turbos and 4 series 2 turbos also had a 205 xs and 3 gtis such fun cars
I see you were at sandbanks ferry I live near there
I have a MK1 Golf GTI, this and the 205 are legends
"The car is by no means concourse"
This car has won awards and is probably one of the most concourse examples in the country 😅 Just look at the engine bay and under the wheel arches.
My driving school in France had a 205 turbo diesel and i learnt how to drive on that car .... Surely it wasn't as good as the GTI but it was very good and I enjoyed it as much if not more than my father's Golf GTI mark II. It felt very light and lively, you could throw it into corners, do handbrake turns or front wheel burn outs like on no other car I have driven or owned except maybe my mother's mark 1 Micra (but she shouldn't know about it).
Since then I have driven, owned or raced very expensive sports cars that had up to 400-500bhp and they are awesome but different. And now you have another generation of sports cars like the Ferrari 458/488, the F12, the Aventador (etc) which have so much performance that you can never press the accelerator pedal for more than 3 seconds without going to jail, which stick to the road like glue and of which you can never explore the limits ... or just maybe a handful of times during the year during a track day. I cannot help but think that once the wow factor is over, most people would have way more fun in a sports hatchback (Ford Focus RS, Megane RS, Civic type R, Peugeot 208 GTI...) or in a Boxter/Cayman than in an Aventador or an F12.
That is a sweet little Hatchback, too bad there are little to no Peugots in the US
+airthrow : I still have my 405. it is such a pleasure to drive, worth the effort to keep it running.
You should make some vids if you havent
Nobody would buy them I guess :(
I want one bad.
+K.H. same here but these things are expensive or they are completely ruined by its previous owners, ridiculously awesome car though.
connoisseur de camembert jup
Exactly this.
None for sale either.
I need money fast. Cars I wan't are getting too expensive. When I have the money they are going to be worth a kingdom and a half.
(Looking at you 1'st gen NSX)
You should come too sweden ;-) I recently traded in a berlingo with a broken timingbelt for 2x 205gti , as connoisseur de camembert mentioned, they are in sad condition :-(
This. Is. Bloody. Brilliant.
Well done lads!!!
this car makes my heart melt.
The 'go kart' for the public road experience aka the Peugeot 205 GTI. LOVE IT!!!
I had a 1.9 GTI and it's was awesome, but now I have a 206 RC and though it is not regarded well by most people I have to say it's better in almost every way. I will keep it as long as I can afford to restore it.
The man is right one of the best things I have driven, I still miss my 205 in the same colour but with an Mi-16. I know someone saved it F444RNR was also a 1.6 but with 1.9 wheels in gunmetal grey. If you read this and know of it let me know its ok haha sob sob
i have it, 19inch rims and LS1 swap ;)
Roubert Marvin Sweet I hope there chrome ones and a iron block LS too Hahah :)
Love to see people passionate about their cars!
Wow. I have been rallying a 1.6 205 GTI for the last 20 years, and I love it to bits. Yes, it's modified, and not a pristine original example such as yours, but nonetheless, the product is genius. On any rally, I pray for rain, because that's where its incredible handling and grip comes in and puts it in a different league, even against much more modern and more powerful competition. Thanks for sharing this, it made me smile.
The 205 GTi is a proper classic hot hatch, and so does the 106 Rallye which I like the most
Yes the 106 Rallye and XSI
I have a J plate one too, non sunroof, power steering totally standard, probably the best car to drive living in the country
Nice thanks for sharing, great cars never get old
my taste for French cars started far away in Australia, firstly with Renault R10, then a Fuego GTX 2 litre, and finally a Peugeot 206 must admit I like them, but now we are living in France it's a Ford Fiesta and a Jaguar, don't ask me why?
great video. I love my hot hatches, this is an icon.
yeah best hot hatch ever, love actually having to drive a car, lift off under steer n torque spin... iv got a 1.9 phase 2 and a 1.9 turbo technics phase 1, the technics is fully restored n sleeps in my garage plotting my 175 bhp death, the others a track car that I use for work, weighs about 720kg, get about 35/40 mpg n I drive it like I'm getting chased by a t rex! terrible in the wet to pull out of junctions tho, hate new cars there's no soul n they all look the same! iv had 22 cars in 10 years, only have true love for 205 gti ♥
Just bought a Cherry Red 1.6 with half leather same miles as yours Chris. Ins very similar condition. New rear beam going on it next week to tighten it all up and it will sit nicely with my Mint Mk1 Golf GTi :)
Brings back some memories, I own a black 1.6 gti and miami blue 1.9 gti :)
2:30
Asbestos, fancy.
Brilliant little car!
+thormaster06 You are a brilliant beautiful girl for a little french guy like me.
so you guys are becoming petrolicious now?
+StefanoTrefano You won't hear me complain. The world needs more Petrolicious.
nice reverse lights at 0.59 ! , love this little car tho !
This reminds me of my 88 Corolla FX, also 1.6l hatch, (not the 16v version.) Makes me want to look up the hp numbers on it.
I've just bought one to restore. cant wait
Any updates ?
This Car is what is wrong with Peugeot. This one is so awesome and iconic, they simply can't build a good successor...
205 is NO 1
1.9 was much improved over the 1.6 but both great cars! 15bhp was good but torque increase was massive!
Plz more videos like these
Wow. Love the video. Great car.
simply right!,.. I agree with the subtitles as Peugeut 205 the French Perfection, as I wrote it about,. in the other video of 205, I wrote that the French people, they wanted to be said as Cars Builders,.. with amaranth peugeut 205 turbo diesel 1800, that My father had it and me as a son partially had it,.. it is true and possible,.. to me amazing quality for a car,.. ciao! London.
Did you drive the 205 turbodiesel ?
Stop making "deep" videos like this one. If nothing puts a smile on your face like a 205 gti then nothing bores me out more than a deep video about a 205 gti.
+Adam Andersson Its because Petrolicious makes "deep" videos, so Xcar just copyes it
+Adam Andersson wha? why is this deep? because the guy has an opinion? Watch X-factor instead.
Xcar wants to be petrolicious and fails
A cult little French car !
Amazing little rocket !
He's not quite Alex Goy is he ? Still, very grateful though.
Not sure XCAR of Petrolicious :)
Awesome Video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙏😀
Very nice !!
Excellent car. :)
Driving a hothatch with straight arms and hands positioned on 11 and 1 should be illegal! It's so inapropriate
Ari Vatanen used to drive his t16 with hands postitioned on 11 and 1, still inapropriate ?
That's the type of whip I love. I hate overly complicated machines.
Great video
errrrr.
we gone back in time?? loool.
3:14 no rev match hurts your car
after that you should do a Renault r5 gt turbo phase 2 video
I like the higher frame rate,
this is basically a petrolicious video... the concept
brilliant car this is...
I've got a lion in my pocket, and baby he's ready to roar...
كم اعشق هادي سيارا لأكن لآ استظيع شراء
awesome video... =)
Who else is a 205 GTi owner? Bought mine for $1000 of one of my dads mates as a rolling shell. $3000 later its a perfect little nugget. 😋
nice car
I just like you , still love Peugeot 205GTI I still have one
Reminds me of the AMC Gargoyle
Your car will have 115bhp not 105. Don't sell it unless you absolutely have to as you'll never find anything like it. I had a 1990 1.6 for several years and it's the most fun car I've owned or driven. Sold it in 1995 with just under 60k on the clock and missed it ever since.
But does it idle properley... ? my 1.9 was awfull for idling..but the lift off oversteer was cool .. :)
Did 80k miles in mine :)
Neil
❤205 GTI
how would I describe the 205 GTI? simply its the Lotus Elan of all the hot hutches, n just like the Elan its the best in its class
How to make your slow old car appear glorious - XCAR
Ever wondered why there are so few 205 GTi's left? Because they were vicious with snap oversteer. They were killing machines wondering how to kill you even before you could realise what happened. Watch verious rallye crash video's on RUclips and you will see exactly what I mean. I am in love with this car, have always been. But man, it was/is dangerous when pushed hard.
Yes absolutely the French cars have flair! Especially the classics. These newer ones are kind of a let down. Basically all this platform sharing and stuff.
Do you wanna make a video of my '97 Opel Corsa next?
+Timo Zimti Is it a OPC? :)
actually rally version of 205 is pretty much changed
My R5 GT Turbo was faster than both the 1.6 and the 1.9 back in the day!! I'd still love a 205 as a track car, slap a boosted Mi16 lump and go to town on the suspension and brakes and you have a weapon on your hands.
Nice vid! Petrolicious UK :-)
Nice Petrolicious
You know when you found your car when you still grin years after buying it.
