    • @norvaz94
      @norvaz94 6 лет назад +5

@@mikexcanxjerk The weather is better in LA for sure but primarily my reason to moving to Texas is because the cost of living is so much less here. My husband and I could probably afford to go back to California since now the kids are grown and on their own but 16 years ago it was appropriate for our family of six. We have traffic here in Houston but you are not in a standstill like if you were in LA. You are just driving more slowly plus there are frontage roads you can hop off if need to. In LA you are literally just stuck there. People are more friendly in Texas and the pay is almost the same but the since the cost of living is so much lower your dollar goes a long way. Here in Houston there are tons to do and after living in San Antonio for 15 years I noticed here in Houston it is more diverse. Lots of Asian markets and restaurants everywhere and there are other ethnic restaurants to choose from.

When I moved to Texas I stopped at a gas station on the way down, as one does. It was the first stop I made in Texas. I filled up and was sitting in my car with the windows up and AC on, of course, it was August. This old cowboy walked over to my car, literally an old cowboy about 75 I"d say, with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots on, stereotypical of what you'd think of when you think TEXAS, and he knocked on my window. I was like, What the @#$% does this guy want ? I lower the window and he asked me, 'Are you from Minnesota' ? ( I had MN plates on my car. ) Yes, I am, I tell him. He stuck out his hand and said, 'Well, welcome to Texas'. I left there was like, damn, I think I"m in the right place. Moved to Austin, the funnest city on the face of the earth btw, got a kick ass job and the rest is history. That was in 1996. True story.

There is no way that I could live in any other state. You want mountains? Drive out to the high desert in West Texas. You want lots of water? Drive out to the coast. You want cold weather in the winter? Take a jaunt up to the Panhandle. You want to drive big cars and big trucks? Do it in Texas. Everything you need is here. Who would want to live anywhere else?

Hi. I too have grown up in Ventura County, California. Camarillo and Oxnard to be exact. Im thinking about moving to Texas myself, in a more rural area? 5 to 10 acres would be nice. I have done the math and my figures put me being able to live there for about a quarter of what im paying now? Yes 1/4 , now I'm not saying I could live like a King, but alot better for sure, My mortgage is $3100 a month, my utilities are $1800 or so, Car insurance and gasoline a month is about $1000, Food, entertainment and recreation is about $1500. When it's all said and done, I'm paying out about $8000 a month, most months, some months being even a bit more expensive, like in November and December and if I decide to take a little vacation to Vegas or Laughlin, Colorado river, fishing up in Mammoth lakes, or do a little snowskiing in our local mountains, it's going to blow that figure out of the water. So hell yes, im looking forward to moving to Texas, $3500 a month instead of $8000 or $9000 a month? Thats now a No-Brainer, I just wish I thought about moving 15 years ago or so, when I got out of the Military. To me another plus, is the people of Texas, Genuine, Patriotic, the minority seem to Love their Country and Love their State, they seem to Love our Constitution and all the Amendments and are proud to be Americans. Im all in!! Take care!! Hawk out!!

Bailed from Silicon Valley (the tech hub in northern CA, just 1 hour south of SF). Here's why I left:
    1) government seized operational control of my business (landlord). By that I mean they took away my ability to set rents, to choose who I can rent to and who I can ask to leave, and a crapload of other new regulations that arrived very recently. Rent control there began in 1979 in some areas, and it just recently became much much worse with new legislation, and since landlords etc. can do business anywhere, over the past 40 years many made the decision to invest NOT IN CALIFORNIA, AND A SHORTAGE OF RENTALS DEVELOPED OVER TIME. Population grew. Rental properties did not keep up. I'm in that business, that is why rental housing is so expensive there -- NOT ENOUGH SUPPLY. Supply and demand. Lots of demand. But SHORT SUPPLY. Due to rent control that began in 1979, 40 years ago in some areas. And why not enough supply? I'll say it again: **Rent control there began in 1979, and since landlords etc. can do business anywhere, over the past 40 years many made the decision to not invest in Calif. AND A SHORTAGE OF RENTALS DEVELOPED.** (See mjperry.blogspot.com/2011/05/because-of-rent-control-sf-has-31000.html. That article is from SEVEN YEARS AGO. A lot more landlords quit that business since then.)
The place I moved to is one of the largest, lowest-crime cities in the USA. No rent control. Apartments are plentiful. You can rent a home in an excellent school district for $2000 to $2500 a month, a home that would sell for $2-$5 million in Silicon Valley, depending on neighborhood. You can rent 3 bedroom/2 bath/2 car garage townhomes -- built in the 1980s/90s -- for as little as $1350/month. Traffic is heavy here but my tenants are MUCH LESS STRESSED OUT, there are so many rentals, they don't pay 50% of their salary on rent. Not as good for me as a landlord, financially perhaps but I love happier tenants and no rent control. I hated showing vacant units I owned in Silicon Valley to people from out of state "you want how much rent for this?/I could rent something like this for $650 a month back where I'm from" wow it was awful. I'd want to tell them "well the mortage/property tax/etc. is much higher here" -- they don't want to hear that.
    2) crime increasing in the best neighborhoods. $2 million dollar home. With violent crime in the same zip code, not too far away. No way. It was never like this in the 1980s and 1990s.
    3) I paid the top CA fax rate -- over 13% -- the year I left. Now I keep all of that.
    4) San Franshithole. When the wife and I were at UC Berkeley for school (late 80s/early 90s) San Francisco was "The Cleanest Big City in America." I kid you not.
    5) Illegals. We all like people. If we didn't we'd live in the mountains away from everyone. We all have friends, families, acquaintances. We all love dogs and/or cats too. Am I driving to the dog pound to pick up all the stray dogs and cats they picked up and bringing them home? NOPE. Do I love dogs? YEP. Then what's the problem? BUDGET.
Every city/town/county has a fixed budget based on income taxes they can collect, which vary (especially when everyone is leaving). You simply CANNOT TAX THE EXISTING CITIZENS ENOUGH to patch the busted budgets due to CA's sanctuary state policy. But they're TRYING to. Highest state tax used to by 10% and THAT was high. But 13.3%? And as more people leave, they MUST either
    1) enforce that border/end Sanctuary State -- OR --
    2) keep raising town, city and state taxes and fees.
The more they raise taxes the more leave. Most people understand the limit on taxing people and realize "with all these people leaving, the suckers who stay behind will have taxes raised on them to keep budgets up, because they're not going to change the open borders situation."
No city/town/county can create a reliable budget with an UNKNOWN NUMBER of new people arriving all the time. This budget issue is common sense. BUT NOT FOR CALIF. LEADERSHIP.
Anyone who stays in CA - as many of us leave or have left already -- are sucker bait, because due to the open borders policy, every city/town/county MUST increase taxes continually for all the new arrivals, AND for all the people and businesses LEAVING.
And I'm not telling anyone where I moved. It's a red state.
    WE DON'T NEED COMMUNISTS HERE.
    .

Although I agree with comment to leave liberalism behind, I don't think they can or should become "Texans" and they will never fight for Texas! What these liberal transplants should do, is educate themselves on why we like it here, and why is Texas so successful! And I say they will never fight for Texas because they already deserted their beloved California and didn't fight for it. Most are just greedy elitists who only care about power and money. PERIOD! #JUSTSAYIN

love your vid sir and agree 100%. I moved to Houston (Spring) in 05 from San Jose Ca and couldn't be happier. Own my own 3/2/2 1400 sq ft house @ 968.00 principal, interest, taxes, and insurance! and drive a 2016 Corvette Z06 on 90k a year (single). If I were in California I'd be rooming with 4 or 5 guys in a crappy neighborhood and probably on Government assistance lol. I don't get what keeps ppl there because it's sooo much better here in Tx. Great video and enjoy our wonderful state

    • @marioavila1559
      @marioavila1559 6 лет назад +8

Close, My.house was 121k and I put just under 11k total down including closing cost. I could have put less down (3.5%) plus closing but wanted to be under 1k a month all in (except utilities).
My utilities runs abt 75.00 a month for water, garbage, sewer, 127.00 a month for unlimited electricity (it's non stop running the ac on 65-72) lol, cable (xfinity) runs 130.00 a month with internet, gas is 35.00 a month. My water is a tad high bc I rent out one room to a roomate (550.00 a month), and we both shower 2x a day. As I stated it's wonderful here and I live in a very nice middle/working class neighborhood. No crime, break ins, vandalism, graffiti, or bars on windows etc. There is absolutely no way I could live like I do off of 91k a year in California let alone the damn Bay Area. Not at all bragging or beating my chest but I drive a 16 corvette Z06, and a 2017 Accord V6 touring (daily driver) and I'm comfy for being 32 y/o. I'm just glad I did this move in 06 instead of later. I love visiting my family in California but after a week tops I'm ready to go back home to Tx. For all of you Californians thinking abt the move to Texas just do it! Mine wasn't planned at all and I might have had like 5500.00 to my name when I made the move (and no job).

Wow congrats Mario! I hope you help keep Texas conservative. I assume house prices have gone up in Texas quite a bit last time I checked $121k in a big city in Texas doesnt get you much. Still anything under $300k is cheaper than Cali.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy working. I pay roughly 3% annually of my homes appraisal value per hcad (harris county appraisal dist) which is roughly 230.00 a month after my homestead exemption (saves a few dollars) and everybody gets that as long as you dwell in the property and don't lease/rent it out. Our property taxes are a bit higher percentage wise but definitely less dollar wise.

Seattle is being ruined buy stupid policies.
I've lived in the area for over 20 years and now things are getting worse here. Cost of living and housing is going through the roof. For example there is a 49 cents state tax on gas. Not including federal tax. Not enough roads. Housing prices are at least time and a half more compared to TX . And there is this weather...50 shades of grey from October till at least March. Summer is not bad but for the last 2 years we had smoke from wildfires from every direction except from the ocean. Guess why the fires are so bad? Mismanagement.
Tree hugger policies let the trees grow uncontrollably.

Could someone expand on this more? It's more than liberal bad conservative good. Texas is mostly libertarian, I like to call my state 'The wild west of Chaotic Good'
What policies and regulations kill business? I would like to know more. Hell yeah, I'll buy some hatch green chiles from a local if they taste better than walmart.
I remember watching a video about a man from california who wanted to turn his laundromat to an apartment complex, he saw a need for housing, looks like a win-win for everyone. Nope, his plan got caught up in the gentrification debate.
Here's the thing, if you have the money to bypass the laws and regulations you need exorbitant prices to cover the initial cost, which makes the housing crisis worse.
I love Texas, but we have most definitely fucked some parts of our society. Public education here is shit.

Great video. I'll add a couple of things if you don't mind. Today a 2700 sq ft home, 4 bed, 3 bath will run you $300-335K with pool. Property taxes will you run you about $7100 per year. No sales tax on food bought in a grocery store or fuel. There is some built in tax on fuel but no sales tax. Fuel currently is $2.39 gal for regular. What I like about Texas is I, read ME, control my tax rate not some political libtard who can't do simple math. The more I spend, the more I pay, and if I don't like my property tax rate I can protest, and have every year, and actually lowered my property tax. I live in one of the best school districts in NDFW so that's why the property taxes are higher. But you can get 6 acres out in the country for half that rate. AND MOST OF ALL, the government of Texas serves IT'S people and businesses, not politically correct ideology. Texas is very hard on people and ideas that go off the rails or who commit crime of any kind. If you wanna have more options and opportunities then you have ever had in your lifetime come here but don't be tryin' to change anything because you will get squashed like a bug. God bless Texas. (And I moved from Oregon.)

Oh, and by the way to all the commentators, not all Californian's are liberal (I'm not). I moved to San Antonio, Texas from San Francisco, California in 1995. The bank I worked for moved because of the tax break and being in a central location.
What Edward says about housing in Texas is true. In the early 1980's, we bought a house in San Francisco for $140,000 dollars. I sold that house to my sister-in-law for $550,000
in 2005, that house probably cost at least now in 20018, a million dollar. In 2001, I was able to buy a house in San Antonio for $145,000, more than a thousand square feet bigger than the one in San Francisco, the Texas house is 2856 sq. feet in a 5184 sq. ft. lot. The appraised value of the house by the county is $170,000 in 2018, with a market value of at least $200,000.00.
I have refinanced the house in 2016, pocketing $30,000.00 in tax free money. I am paying $970.00 a month, that's including taxes and insurance.
The best thing I can remember about San Francisco, is walking down along Mission street going downtown, and roaming around the civic area or viewing the Pacific ocean or
enjoying a burger while watching a crowd of tourists wait for those street trolleys in Fifth and Market and of course the subway BART, not to mention the fun stuff along O'Farrel street.
Now that I think about it, I would say that San Francis is a fun city to live in, unfortunately I would have to earn at least twice I was earning when I was working to be able to live there.

Retired from CA (Camarillo), initally went to Colorado and HATED it! It's basically LA with pine trees. Very crowded, horrible traffic, lots of panhandlers, not affordable, and nobody takes care of their house. Went to Boise, ID and instantly fell in love with it! Bought a beautiful home for $200,000 on 1/4 acre. Downtown Boise is awesome, lots to do. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, I've made lots of friends. The topography is very similar to CA, rolling hills, tons of trees, blue skys, and the Boise River runs everywhere so I don't really miss the beach. It does snow, but it's light and melts quickly. Anyone that wants to escape CA, at least take a look, there's a reason why it's the fastest growing town in America. 😏

I've lived in Dallas and the San Francisco Bay Area and the cost of living difference is just so staggering. In Texas my 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 2 car garage, 2 living room, 2 story, big backyard house cost only $260,000 but in the Bay Area it would have been $1.5 million easily. Unlike LA Dallas has a great rail system and you can take the train to both airports, downtown, the major office parks, the suburbs and attractions easily and it's relatively inexpensive. Though traffic can be rough for a few hours around peak times it is significantly easier considering that Dallas is a metro of 7.5 million compared to LA which is a CSA of 18 million. I do also enjoy the central location because I could be in NYC in 2 1/2 hours as opposed to 4 1/2 if I flew out of SFO. I do however miss the gorgeous natural scenery which Texas lacks severely by comparison... I miss the redwood forests, the ocean, the mountains, the hills, etc. Also I miss the perfect Bay Area weather terribly where I never had to use air conditioning or even fans... in fact my county in California produced a lot of wind energy which they would sell to other states and would pass down the saving to the residents who sometimes have negative amounts on their utility bills (I usually would have 3 months where I would actually have credits and paid nothing).

I don’t understand why it has to do with politics. It’s obvious the reason Cali is expensive is because there are a lot of people. Also been advertised like crazy. I lived in Austin and now live in Dallas. It’s getting expensive because a lot of people are moving in. Will be expensive in the future. Texas is mixed when it comes to politics too. Most people are conservatives yes but you also have others as well. Especially in the main cities. I used to pay 400 dollars in rent in Austin and when I left I was paying almost 1000. Got too crowded and a lot of people moving in. Dallas also becoming expensive. All are welcome but people will eventually complain of the high prices that we are starting to pay.

I moved out here two years ago because of a great opportunity. I will have to say one thing that you make sure you tell family and friends back in CA if they're evenly remotely thinking about coming here. You really need to emphasize that they need to be conscientious of the fact that people will be weary about any potential liberal view contamination. Listen you mentioned the financial benefits of Texas. It's not just the superficial financial benefits but the ideology that afloats the financial benefits. So dial into the ideology. California is overrun with a lot of liberals that have a stake in the illegal immigration problems which Californias don't condone but can be sympathetic too. In all the years I lived in Los Angeles you never hear angelenos complain about all the illegals and the out of staters that want to make it in the movie industry and run amuck with their arrogance and superficiality. Californians are laid back by nature. You come here and you will have to make an opinion on all those problems and so will your friends and family. To be clear, it's not just the immigration but it's mostly the lies and corruptions of the politicians that want more funding for the state based on head count (citizen or not). Which in turn means bigger contracts to the prison system, housing builders, school lunch programs, health industry. And that's not to say that conservatives haven't made back room deals in a larger scale with big corporations. Texas prides itself as being independent. In turn, I tell my friends in texas that the fake news about most of Californians being liberals and complicit with illegal immigration (none can be further from the truth, all my friends are strong 2nd amendment advocates, anti-illegal immigration, against the politicians) is as much from fake news shown here as Californians thinking all texans are part of a lynch gang as shown in the fake news in California. Balkanization by fake news is real. If the government pulls marshal law you can bet the last ground will be in Texas.

thanks for posting your thoughts. We like TX too. Agree you made a solid decision for your life. However, in general, things that are expensive usually are for a reason, and Los Angeles has it all, mountains, beaches, terrific hiking, Disneyland, creative jobs, aerospace jobs, the Farmers Market, Newport Beach, DTLA, many restaurants, snow skiing, surfing, scuba diving, and the possibility of very high end living. A $1400 house/habitation payment in the Dallas area will not get you all these things, not even possible, but it will in LA. Further, for most, convincing the boss to pay you more is far more difficult then figuring out how to save more of your earned income, and LA wages will still be higher than in Dallas due to higher cost of living. The argument narrows when one considers living in a big city like NY, very high wages, incredible amount of choice as far as lifestyle, dining choices, entertainment choices, not right for all, but for some just right.

lincoln was a communist among other things. he was a friend of marx and there is all kinds of books written about their relationship. the USA is a federation of states. the constitution was the first step in 'union' of all 50 states. the united states is nothing other than an american version of the EU. this is why illegal immigration will not stop under trump or any other regime. it is part of a long term constitutional plan. abortion, gay marriage and illegals are all now constitutional.

I love seeing people that truly love this state and our country coming here. It only makes us stronger in the great state of TX. Hope you make it down here to Austin sometime.

I am sorry for even making that political comment towards you. You made a great video and it didnt seem like you wanted it to be political and I interjected politic's into it anyway. That was wrong of me.

No worries. I didn't want to bring in politics because it is a crazy topic, but I do know and understand very well that the political climate is a big reason why I am here. Unfortunately for me, everyone else on RUclips is bashing me and assuming I am liberal since I associate with CA. 100+ comments and counting. Lesson learned. :)

Half of my relatives live in Houston and I loved the aura of the people. Other half of family live in San Francisco and the ones beautiful city 10 yrs ago is now a disaster. I've lived in Boston MA for 30 yrs now and although expensive, experiencing 4 seasons in a year is great and making 120K a year helps. Yes for Texas, No for CA.

I lived in Ventura County as well. I miss Camarillo so much... but I don't miss the high cost of California living one bit. Very glad I made the move to Vegas. My dreams of owning a home turned into reality in a matter of one year in Vegas whereas in Camarillo I kind of accepted that I was never going to own a home.

To sum it up, you moved to Texas because its cheaper to live and better commute...really nothing to do with politics. Seems like you thought it thru and hopefully it works out.
My brother and his family moved to Texas 13 years ago for the same reason (cheaper cost of living), they been trying to move back to California for the past 5 years.

How do you figure that Oracle and Apple moved to Texas when their headquarters are still in the Bay Area?
