Fertile land becomes desert through drought, deforestation, or inappropriate agriculture. Land degradation, climate change, and biodiversity loss are interconnected challenges that affect everyone.
The 2024 theme of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, “United for Land: Our Legacy. Our Future.” advocates for sustainable land stewardship.
Land can be restored with equitable land rights, sustainable land and water management, reforestation, seed banks, and soil improvements. The productivity of degraded land can be revitalized and improve the lives of billions of people worldwide.
