Chicago's first six studio albums are essential for a prog collection. I just completed them in my CD collection. VIII is a great cover, but I never got into the songs.
@@TheProgCornerHideaway is my favorite on VIII. I stopped there as I lost interest because I didn't hear anything from them on the radio station that was playing Yes, ELP, Genesis, Renaissance, George Harrison, and King Crimson around that time. Chicago apparently left the prog scene and only their first two albums were getting very little airplay on that station.
Waterloo Lily from Caravan... you know you need that Scot. And Camel's Nude too !! I'm with you on that Moonmadness sleeve artwork though...it's close on the worst ever surely. I was hoping you had Cranberries.. No need to Argue. Love this band. Some great cuts there Scot !!! 🎵🎵😍🤘
Hey Scot. Really looking forward to checking out some Cake. Also excellent "C" vinyl: Starting with The Church. Many good albums but I'll just mention the first ones and last ones. The new album Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars is fantastic as well as the companion album, Hypnogogue. Both double vinyl. Also the debut, Of Skins and Heart, and the sophomore album, The Blurred Crusade. Others: Crass Penis Envy Julian Cope Peggy Suicide Julian Casablancas Phrases for the Young Chameleons Script of the Bridge Cranes Forever The Cure Seventeen Seconds Elvis Costello Armed Forces Citizen Fish Goods. Cheers!
You re amazing! Thanx for turning me on to Chicago. Had never heard a note...And there s some other stuff from your "C" I ll be checking out. Love your enthusiasm!
I’m sure you used to have Camel’s first album and will re-buy it. I was 3 years late buying it (bought it in ‘76). My favorite Camel and one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s an album I put on and suddenly life is simple and beautiful.
Looking forward to your wife's top 10 to see how much has osmosed from yourself and the new IZZ deserves a review. Always difficult to assess a vinyl collection without knowing what you have on CD where, I presume, the gaps are filled. Meanwhile, I have an original Colosseum Valentyne Suite on Vertigo, but you ain't having it!
Hey Scott, Enjoying the A-Z journey through your vinyl collection. I have two Can albums, Tago Mago and Monster Movie. Would love to pick up Ege Bamyasi and explore Future Days. The Clash are my favorite band of all time. Was lucky enough to see them twice, and their first four albums along with the EP are essential. Agree with you about Nat King Cole, who had such a genius for phrasing and velvet pipes. Captain Beefheart? I have Trout Mask Replica, Lick My Decals Off, Ice Cream For Crow and Doc At The Radar Station. Safe As Milk and Shiny Beast Bat Chain Puller (Tropical Hotdog Night!) Would be next on my list. I love eccentrics. Thanks for doing this.
Some great bands and albums in there. Love hearing Caravan, Camel, & Can get shout outs. Coven too was cool, I have their Witchcraft Destroys Minds album. Given your other likes, would the Cult get a look in? Love & Electric are two of my favourite non-prog albums from the 80s Two others I'd recommend if you don't know them...Caldera's a Moog Mass and Cervello's Melos
I was thrilled to see Dinner at the Ritz by City Boy! People don't talk about that band enough, they had some good songs. The Ritz album is their best IMO. I'm no expert on prog, but I think Ritz could maybe be called pop-prog, like Supertramp perhaps. Not prog, but proggy.
Nice collection, obviously you'd have a lot of Chicago, it only makes sense! As for my CD collection I've really only got a few albums under C... I have four out of the six albums by Caligula's Horse, I'm only missing their latest album, Charcoal Grace (haven't gotten around to buying it quite yet) and their second album, The Tide, The Thief, and River's End (for some reason it's near impossible to find a copy of that on CD, searching for physical copies only finds vinyl for some reason). Then I have four albums by Coheed and Cambria - the three album run of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume I: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, and No World for Tomorrow, and then part one of their current storyline, The Unheavenly Creatures. Fun fact: Good Apollo and No World For Tomorrow cost me a grand total of one dollar - the former I got free at a garage sale, and the latter I found for a dollar at a thrift store. And at the same thrift store trip I got an album I don't have under C but you could technically call it a Phil Collins solo album if you felt generous, it's the soundtrack to Disney's Tarzan, yeah, that was from right around when my fianceé and I were both around six years old, it's super nostalgic so we had to grab it. Plus the songs are still just really solid in my book.
Missing (but maybe they are in your CD shelf): Centipede - Keith Tippets megaband with all the jazzrockmusicians from King Crimson, Soft Machine etc. Leonard Cohen - Congreso (Chile) - Prog meets jazz, meats Andean folk ... Crusis (Argentina) - You would love Crucis - it can't be more prog that Crucis. Curved Air - ?????? Wish you peace love and a lot of understatements ... understanding, sorry!
Some fantastic albums, Magnified as Giants was my number one pick from 2021, and of course TCOFR from 2023. Looking forward to the IZZ review, I posted mine two weeks ago, fantastic album. Cheers my friend and prog on.
Great C Collection Scott. Yea ya need 2nd Captain Beyond Sufficiently Breatless and the 3rrd Dawn Explosion to have all 3. Now as for Chicago I still working on getting everything up to #14 I have 7 so far & last but not least Cheap Trick Everything as well including a 4 CD box set Sex America Cheap Trick.
Love your Captain Beyond LP! I loaned my original (Xmas '72) to a friend in the late '70s...he takes a job in Italy. He returns a year later & my 1st question: Can I have my album back? He has no recollection. Of course. Years later, I did cop a decent copy from Ebay for about $35. I have their other 2 on vinyl. All 3 are framed.
Losing your big collection must burn. Waterloo Lily was the follow up to Land of Grey and Pink, For Girls came after that. I saw them on that tour which was one of my earliest gigs and it was issued as Caravan at the Fairfield Halls, nice to be in the audience for that one. You definitely need some Curved Air in your collection.
I shouldn't make light of your mention of an enforced 'holiday' Scot but I read a line the other day... Waking up to surprise sex is wonderful... unless you're in prison!
Brought to you by the letter “C” I have 110 different artists under C. The first two are Cabaret Voltaire and Cactus. The two in the middle, John Coltrane and Combustible Edison. And bringing up the rear we have Cypress Hill and Miley Cyrus. Think of any other classic artists under C that a 61 year old rock fan would have I more than likely have it. I suspect a lot of us have the same albums.
Always fun... Suggestion - file all your Christmas albums together and when those one or two times of the year occurs - BOOM- break 'em out like it was planned (instead of searching.) Just sayin'. Peace on earth.
Carmen!..no Coheed or Billy Cobham? btw, I am well on my way to reorganizing my CD Collection, which could really help to do a CD Collection A-Z down the road on my channel.
