'From Field to Roof' a Farmer/Master Thatcher in the 21st century

A number of short clips taken from the new DVD by Avalon Video covering the year in the life of Andy Bowman a 21st Century Farmer/Master Thatcher. The harvesting of Long stem wheat is undertaken with vintage Binders and tractors, threshing of the crop with threshing drums to produce the combed straw. Then the DVD shows how thatching is done whilst filming as Andy and his team put thatch onto cottages and houses across Oxfordshire. There is also a look at how thatching was probably put onto Iron Age round houses by the Archaeological experts at Butser Ancient Iron Age farm in Hampshire. The DVD runs for over 90 minutes and is available now.

Keep on doing it that way , endless respect to all of you , used to stook when I was a nipper , bit of pocket money , but I'm pleased I did it , I can look back . Brilliant job 👍

Nice video. I used to love getting ready for the cutting and binding but not the stooking....! Then a couple months later about 8 chaps come together ready to thresh, an old traction engine running 1920's threshing machine. I was usually stumping and trimming as old George said ' you be laying it not I, so you can't complain twhen thatching twith it see '
good times.
