    Pantou is a traditional event of wiping off in Miyakojima, Okinawa. Registration to the intangible cultural heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was decided on November 29, 2018.

    仮面をつけ、全身に草を巻き付けた泥まみれの来訪神「パーントゥ」が厄よけのため、人や家などに泥をつけて回る沖縄県宮古島市島尻地区の伝統行事「パーントゥ・プナハ」が5日、3年ぶりにあった。地区の青年が扮(ふん)したパーントゥが現れると、子供たちは悲鳴を上げて逃げ回った。井戸の底にたまった臭いのきつい泥を顔や服に塗られながら、住民や観光客らは笑顔を見せた。
