Since nobody brought it up on the stream, All singers at the end of this were vocalists in The Gathering. Left is the current singer, Silje. Then Bart was the very first singer for The Gathering. Then on the right of Anneke is Martine who was co-lead with the another singer before Anneke took over on the third album. This was one of the last songs of the concert and they all performed songs during this concert. One day you might get to watch "Paper Waves" from this concert with Silje and Anneke doing a duet. Also Anneke ended up playing drums on one song during this concert. This was just a great show all around.

So happy to see you finally got to this song. I absolutely love this song. It is kind of a ode to Mozart. This song gives me early Pink Floyd vibes in a trance style of music. The guitar pedal tone creates a trancelike effect during the end sections. To "Travel" back in time to tell Mozart that His music would live forever! As Anneke sings, "You must have loved the colour of these violins". At the end she is joined by all of the past singers for "The Gathering".
    Leaning
    Over your fortieth masterpiece
    You must have loved
    The colour of these violins
    I wish I knew you
Your fit of insanity makes me sad
    I wish you knew
Your music was to stay forever
    And I hope
    I have no clue
If you know how much it matters
    And I hope
    I wish you knew

You should give the album version a listen too; it's very intimate and pure, the instruments are more subdued and Anneke's voice is angelic, while the live versions are very powerful. They supplement each other perfectly.

Splendid reaction and analysis Charlie, as always. This is how "The Mother of Female Prog/Metal Singers" takes you on a "trip" without the substance. Her voice and the repetitiveness is the drug ...

I'm actually surprised this was the first you heard Travel! Usually when people are starting to familiarize themselves with Anneke there is just a tsunami of recommendations to listen to Travel - and with very good reason, of course. Personally it's hard for me to choose one favorite from the Anneke/Gathering catalogue, but Travel and Waking Hour (which you already covered) are the two songs which are, for me, tied for first. On Most Surfaces, Nighttime Birds, and Rescue Me are a few other favorites.
The Gathering started off as something like a Doom Metal sounding band, with Bart Smits (the big bald guy at the end) mostly doing fry or false cord screams. There was a bit of a transition away from that, then after Anneke joined I think the band's sound really began to evolve. Ultimately TG wasn't really metal anymore, they had a kind of "trip rock", almost Pink Floydish sound which worked really well with Anneke's voice.

I disagree that her timbre doesn’t change, it changes and that’s what I love about her voice. She sounded very different on her power notes that she did on her soft and bright verses.

The Gathering, with Anneke as singer, are so good. So many great albums.
I would have chosen the album version because the little subtle things get a bit lost in the live performance but this version is great also.

"Metal Tinkelbell" is the name Davon Townsend gave her because of the way her face and body is. She literally has the face and body of a Tinkerbell. She looks and sounds like a beautiful fairy. And it's like she is a part of a fantasy fairytale.. And very much a brilliant singer that inspired so many other female singers in Europe.

It is repetitive and still...back in the day, I put this song on repeat. Remember reading a thread about how many times did you listen to Travel according to your Scrobble or whatever counts it for you. I believe I wasn't even close to winning. Some people listen to one same song for a whole day straight...you cannot compete.

@@rat9199 Anneke's voice here sounds as powerful as it did in the late 90s-early 2000s. Anneke in 2006 used a bit too much head voice and she didn't sound as powerful. And since this is a vocal analysis, it suits better. The best from A Noise Severe was A Noise Severe, which I think people should watch and analyse more often.

4 minutes in, and I give up. You are stopping at all the changes, completely missing the build-up from the slower first-half of the verse to the more intense second-half.
I know this is a 2-year-old video, I just hope you have since adapted to feeling where the song is going and to wait for the reward after a dramatic change or build-up.
