Cool clip from Oimachi! I went there in the evening last year and like you said it felt slightly intimidating at first, but it was totally fine. Very nice old school atmosphere and very few tourists from wihat I could tell. I don't live in Japan, but I usually come back once every year and like you I love to venture out to these deep Tokyo areas to soak in the vibe/hang out/eat and do street photography. Looking forward coming back in May-June this year again.
Thank you! Yeah, the place is super cool and I have a great time whenever I'm there. Glad to hear you find the deep areas to soak up that good stuff! Have an excellent trip if you make it out. :)
I'm the opposite.. when I go with others I feel like it draws more attention to me and I feel more uncomfortable.. when I'm aloe, I can move in and out like a street ninja :) Oimachi is a great part of the city! keep up with the videos!
@@denizdowntown6385 thank you! Yeah, I like going solo to most areas. But for some reason, this particular night was different. I'm looking forward to seeing what other neighborhoods bring me. 🙇🏼♂️
I worked in Oimachi from ‘90 - ‘93 at a company named Koyosha. It was a printing company that went bankrupt some years back. Oimachi was very nondescript back then. Very simple and plain. Your video piqued my interest for a visit.
Oh! That's super interesting. I know there's so much change in Tokyo and it happens both fast and slow, but to think about Oimachi being very quiet in the early '90s sounds so fascinating to me. The small alleyways there, do you feel they've been around in previous decades?
@@TokyoGritandGrain Nothing has changed structurally in terms of the narrow walkways and the covered snacks. The only addition I can see is the addition of graffiti and colorful band logo and brand paper plastering on walls and whatnot. It's just the vibe, It's certainly no Shin-Okubo and not as hip as Koenji form what I can tell. PS - I really like your narration and how you capture yourself in video. I aspire to that with my channel. Cheers!
@@ricefieldrecords Hey, thanks. I appreciate it. I'm enjoying this style of video creation and I hope to do more of it. Interesting about the whole scene. The vibe is SO good.

Jason-those were wonderful images. Could have been a zine called Oimachi. Total enjoyed the video.
@@donjagoe right on! Thanks a ton. I appreciate it. That place is super interesting... and I think you're on to something, there. 🤔
I love this man. I can totally see that.. Deep Tokyo.. you are the coolest photographer I know. But don't tell Julian
HA! Thank you, my friend. Let's goooo!
Nice. Neighbouring Omori is also worth a look, but some good spots have to be hunted for.
Ahhhh. I'm definitely going to check out that area. Thank you! I'm always on the hunt.

Thanks for your thoughts and actions. I'm heading for Japan in a few months and I'm interested in the "real" country and the people who live there.
