We stayed at the Reedham Ferry campsite only one night before going to the Cambridge Folk festival some years ago. I loved it. only wish we could have stayed longer! It was lovely to see it mentioned on the Timothy West/Prunella Scales canl trips programme. Thank you so much for this.

Nice places, Pin Mill is lovely & full of charm, a regular mooring for Thames sailing barges in bygone days & all the quirky houseboats that line the bank now.
The red lightships have no engine & are towed to their mooring sites. There is a river taxi service that does a hop on hop off service between Harwich, Shotley & a beach landing at Felixstow, I could spend all day just going from one point to another. So many differing water craft.

Yes I’d happily stay on that yellow ferry all day too. First time I’d been to pin mill. I loved it. Shame the pub doesn’t do accommodation. If you know any similar places, please let me know. Not further than Shotley though. Shame barges don’t stop there now. (Pin mill)
I like sitting on the benches watching the world go by, when you cross over the Lock gates at Shotley Marina. Just love boats and water 🛳🛥🚢⛵️

Pleased you had a break with your friend before she has her op. I hope it goes well for her.
Ah Reedham Ferry, yes I remember mooring close by and watching the novice boaters come down on the ebb tide. What seems to escape some people is that they have to avoid the ferry, not the other way around. Then they suddenly realise that a boat doesn't handle like a car and it certainly doesn't stop like one.
Ah Reedham Swing bridge, more memories. Back in 1962 mum, dad and myself were approaching the bridge, from the Breydon side and against the current. We passed under the bridge and noticed that another cruiser was about to depart from it's mooring. Dad briefly put the the gear lever in neutral. There was no traffic to our stern and the bridge was some yards away so no problem. Ok dad, the other boat has left the mooring, put the gear lever in forward and we'll take the mooring. Ok dad stop messing about, put the gear lever in forward we're still going backwards. Try as he might the gear lever wouldn't engage forward gear and the bridge was looming ever closer.
I'll take a moment to explain that when I say gear lever, I don't mean the type of controls in use nowadays. This was an aft cockpit cruiser of wooden construction. The gear lever was several feet in length after exiting the flooring under which the engine was mounted.
Well there was no getting away from it, we were going back under the bridge stern first. Thankfully we didn't hit the bridge and as soon as we were on the other side we started to drift towards the opposite bank where we eventually stopped. Dad, being a mechanical person, whipped up the engine cover and managed to get the linkage working again. So off we went under the bridge again and moored up. So dad went off the the phone box to call the boatyard again.Yes again! It wasn't a good year for breakdowns. We called the boatyard almost every day that year. Just in case you're wondering, that particular boatyard doesn't exist anymore and hasn't done for many years.
I look back and smile when I think of these episodes many years later. We weren't smiling at the time and the current can run fairly fast at this location. But hey, its all part of the adventure and we certainly had something to talk about when we got home.
Thank you for another lovely video.

A pity about the wet weather at the start of your camping break, but things did brighten up and there was even some warm sunshine on Thursday. I know, because I drove up to South Norfolk and dropped my sister off at Homersfield and it was lovely warm sunshine there.
I remember the level crossing at Strumpshaw from years ago, before it became 'automated', a lady used to open and close the crossing gates. I believe she lived in the little railway cottage beside the crossing, there were all sorts of colourful garden ornaments, gnomes, animals, birds, windmills etc. in the little front yard of the cottage. Unfortunately, it's another one of those lovely East Anglian 'quirks', like the 'chicken roundabout' near Bungay, that have sadly disappeared in recent times...
It was lovely to see a couple of 'Spritsail Barges' on the River Deben/Stour, we have a few still sailing the rivers and creeks of Essex. There used to be regular barge racing matches, starting from Southend Pier on the Thames Estuary, I don't know if they still happen, but it was a spectacular sight, watching from outside the 'Esplanade' pub, on shore... 😄🍺
Nice to see a little bit of Beccles, a lovely town that I always try and visit, when I'm in that part of the world. I love the river trip up to Geldeston, we usually hire a 'day boat' from "Hippersons" (opposite the yacht station), but the 'Black Dog Ferry' looks a nice lazy alternative, particularly if you're the one whose always at the wheel... 😄
I'm glad you both had a good time camping at 'Reedham Ferry', hopefully you weren't put off 'life under canvas' and you'll take us again, one day. I hope your friends operation goes well and she'll be back on her paddleboard (and not falling off 😉) very soon.
Thank you so much, for another lovely and interesting video... ☺️

Awww thank you Andy, I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. I absolutely loved Beccles, I’d only ever been once before about 20 years ago. Pin mill was a first for me 😍 but I’ve been to Shotley a few times now. It’s the parking at Pin Mill which is tricky but I think I have that sussed now 😉🤫. Water and boats, that’s all I need in life. To watch, not to own or steer.
      Thank you for watching. 🛳🚢⛵️

Even in the rain norfolk is still a magical place to be.
The reedcutter at Cantley features briefly in the film Yesterday, there's also an outside scene where you can see the sugar factory in the background.

Great video, thank you. It was nice to see the Thames Barge 'Thistle' still on the move - not bad for 126 years old.(Gives me something to aim at ;o)) ). You are correct about the HMS Ganges tower although it looked a bit different back then.

Glad you enjoyed your camping in the rain, we enjoyed the video of places we have not seen. We will look out for you at Ludham Bridge on Sunday afternoon and maybe you can have that cup of tea and biscuit I promised you last year. We will be on a Gold Gem and we will be overnighting on Barton as we always do and making our way down stream after lunch. We will be hopeing to moor at Ludham so Vicky can have a look around the shop but judging by your recent videos this can sometimes be a problem so we will keep our fingers crossed.
