Great tips. Never thought of using boards when reading comics. Will have to try it. Thanks for sharing these tips.

Thank you! I just got my first comic book. It was “Miles morales Spider-Man blood hunt 21” and I wanted to read it without damaging it. I saw no videos until I came across this one, Thank you.

I probably need to redo this video, I think I am way too careful back then. But I guess it's good to be overly cautious with such a nice book?

I always use a board when reading a comic. Shouldn't the let the page fall normally? So it has that normal arch.

So what’s your opinion of E Gerber Mylites 2 2mm thick Mylar bags combined with e gerber full back backing cards ? Roughly $35 list price for the full backs (50 percent off on amazon) and roughly $20 list price for the Mylites 2 (10 percent off on amazon) opinions on quality and pricing?

For long term storage they are the way to go. Definitely do silver age size. If you can find them, that is.. they've pretty much been perpetually sold out for 3 years

So if im using standard size e gerber mylites 2 and standard size e gerber half-backs for my current size comics, what size of iron age top loader or whatever brand top loader do you recommend i get to be able to fit all that? Im actually using 2 half backs per Mylar but for copies i decide to put in a top loader im sure the Mylar plus one half back is fine. I just want to make sure i dont order something from my LCS that ends up not fitting

Finally finding time to go through comments (I read them all but I'm slow). The toploaders I use are shown on my website, improvecollecting.com.
I recommend taking a book or two into your LCS and having them help size it. Silver age is probably what you want. It fits the larger board sizes I use even on my moderns better.

I do not read my comics now at all. I have been re-reading the Fantastic Four starting with issue #1, but borrow them form my local Library in Omnibus form....

    • @ImproveCollectingComics
      @ImproveCollectingComics  2 года назад

I do this whenever possible as well, omnibuses are awesome... you get the same experience of reading a physical book but don't have to worry about causing damage

They are great, takes a lot of the worry out of it with valuable raw books.. you still have to be careful, but if you accidentally bump or drop them you stand a fighting chance of them not getting damaged

This is probably great for collectors but not for people that actually buy comics to read. There is absolutely no way that I would enjoy reading my comic books in the manner

You are definitely right, but this video is for those that want their cake and to eat it to... but there is another way, although it takes a bit more green to do. I don't do it for many comics, but for the books I love most, I keep one high-grade "collecting" copy and one "readers" copy that I don't have to worry about damaging further

@@ImproveCollectingComics times have change and we have to deal with covers that are somehow more valuable than others although not sure why they have the power to dictate which one is of more value when the content is the same. I was buying like cover A or B and then one variant that I would not touch until that became expensive. Now, I have to think about whether to continue with this expensive trend or not. I’m not in it for the resale but for collecting the comics I love to read

1:29 oh come on man, obviously a comic from 1969 or whatever is going to show aging, comics will bend and so on just the way it is, it's also boring to me when it looks like the comic is completely new because it feels like it has no History attached to it. Oh! A comic from 1956 but no one ever read it before! Just boring.. just hold a really old comic book in your hand and say "someone in 1947 actually read this and here I am in 2024 reading it, enjoying it, laughing at it" this video is just so fucking overkill.

To each their own, but 99% of collector's would rather have an untouched perfect book to display versus heavily damaged one. But you might be talking about readers, collectors have those as well and that's where we don't mind often care what it looks like. And I don't mind counter opinions, but please watch the language. My kids watch this channel.

@@ImproveCollectingComics I collect comics as well to some degree but also read them but very carefully especially if they're from the 50's or further, but if it just bends a tiny little bit I can't really be bothered to care about it since that's just apart of what makes a comic a comic, seeing that it has been read before. Also my bad for the language didn't know your kids watched your channel and I'm not sure if you've mentioned it anywhere either, only video I've really seen from you is this one and a few others.

It's all good, sorry if I came off harsh. I do understand that everyone collects in a different way and I value your opinion. I (and others) seem to forget the important part, and that's the love of the books and stories. I realize that I now make profit off the hobby but never want to lose sight of the reason I got into collecting in the first place. Thanks for the attitude adjustment. :)

    I always just buy two.
One immediately goes in a bag and the other gets a mark on the back of the board meaning read.
