most of local people in bali especially ubud and canggu know susan (gypsy in sneaker), she's often walking around there, by walking i mean literally 😂 she just love walk and talk to the local people, she got a decent skill of bahasa too, which help her to get close to the locals people, and she's also a well respected figure among a content creator in bali.. so, if you planning to go to bali, susan is definitely one of the most trusted person you can contact, or at least trying to contact before you go.. but as susan said, having a local friend also could help you a lot, so i hope you could find one... good luck
Great practical tips/advice! On bargain, you can bargain, because they do hike the price when they sell to foreigners. Just not too much or not too mean. Also, its fun and create friendly atmosphere. Also, on money changer, in general it’s ok, just be careful by counting your money in front of the money changer before you leave the shop.

fyi Carlie, Nyepi in Bali is always one of the day in March every year. In the day of Nyepi you can't go out from your house, can't make a noise, can't turn on any machine, all internet accesses & TV accesses will be blocked by goverment, and not allowed to turn on light all night long. Nyepi is always started at 06.00 am until 06.00 am next day. I've been living in Denpasar Bali for 11 years, so Nyepi is my day too.

I am really sad to hear that she got 3 times her helmet stolen. When I was at Bali at 2007-2008, it was save to leave everything out of your house. I usually parked my motorcycle with the key hanging. And the helmet too. But nothing bad happened. My motorcycle saved till the next day. Once again, I am really sad to hear bout this condition today.

By present law, international driving license is not accepted nor recognize as valid in Indonesia., consequently your overseas insurance won’t work either. In order to drive in Bali as a tourist you must go to the local police station and pass a driving test in order to get a temporary license. Foreigners living in Bali should get an Indonesian driving license.

Bali as you know many people local Indonesian from other island come and stay in Bali which they some time bring with their own culture. Some may good but some other are not good. If native Balinese I 100 pct trust they are good, honest as because their religion and culture. They strongly believe in karma which bad karma will back to you or your family or relatives later day even after you are passed away. Trust me back in 70 - 80's you can leave a motorcyle with key on it, helmet and your belonging stuff it will stay there and nobody will touch or steal it even no nobody look after them. But as time went, many other culture local and international come it ruin the situation. I still believe native Balinese were still at their original culture. and way of life you will see and feel the difference when you are in Bali. Please do respect Balinese culture and tradition. Not only in Bali...in general, we Indonesians are very open to anyone...helping fellow human beings is our culture...but your need to remember don't hurt our hearts.
Bali as you know many people local Indonesian from other island come and stay in Bali which they some time bring with their own culture. Some may good but some other are not good. If native Balinese I 100 pct trust they are good, honest as because their religion and culture. They strongly believe in karma which bad karma will back to you or your family or relatives later day even after you are passed away. Trust me back in 70 - 80's you can leave a motorcyle with key on it, helmet and your belonging stuff it will stay there and nobody will touch or steal it even no nobody look after them. But as time went, many other culture local and international come it ruin the situation. I still believe native Balinese were still at their original culture. and way of life you will see and feel the difference when you are in Bali. Please do respect Balinese culture and tradition. One more thing, dont get drunk in bali. Drinking is for you to escape to a "good place" You already in good place, so no need to get drunk . All the assholes on the road are usually drunk. And they are super annoying.
