Rachmaninov at his best for me (as his second and third symphonies and The Bells) These works show Rachmaninov at a very high level of development (harmonically and orchestration) that do not correspond of what usual fans of the musician are expecting. More over where could one find a choir singing like that in our western countries ? : impossible !
The lyrics would upset peoples feelings. They're "misogynistic" even though some women actually like BDSM and others dont. Same with men. Should women who are nonconforming be forced to punish people who havent done anything to them or punish themselves because they belong to a certain group?!
Fuck it, the last one, I finally found it !!!! Rachmaninoff did an adaptation of it for the piano, I think it was a bit different in the 1926 version with Nadezhda Plevitskaya singing, but I finally have a score, or something written for it. I'll try to rewrite it according to what I was on the 1926 version if this one is not adequate enough ^^
Speak no Russian! can we have a translation or at least a comprehensive paraphrase of what’s being sung? The music, typically Rach., with swinging moods, just heavenly!
These are amazing works. Since I first heard them in the 1970s I have wondered, Why are they not more famous??? These are songs of great beauty.
I agree, I think because to this day the west tends do discourage listening to anything that sounds only the slightest bit Russian
I wonder that too. His Vespers, The Bells, this piece. A master of choral writing, at least to my unprofessional ears.

@@tonytalks9070 Sorry, you evidently understand neither Russian nor musical language. Maybe you're talking about some different work? Honest mistake?

These are great. I've Rachmaninov's works for SO long but never heard these.
Thankfully as a Russian I can understand the lyrics and boy are they dark.
He was the Gothfather of 20th century music
