  • This is the story of a 7-day cruise on Puget Sound (in the Pacific Northwest) with American Cruise Lines on their ship American Constellation.
    In spite of mother nature throwing us some very challenging windy weather that prevented us from visiting two of the places on our original itinerary, it still ended up being an enjoyable and memorable cruise.
    We did end up making it to Anacortes, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, and Poulsbo. The cruise began and ended in Seattle. Excursions took us to Victoria, Whidbey Island, and Port Gamble.
    I'm embarrassed to say that I made two factual errors in my voiceover of this video. In spite of what I say in the voiceover, this was NOT my 56th cruise overall... it was my 57th! Also, the ferry ride that I took to Victoria was NOT my first-ever ferry ride. After making the video, I remembered that I did actually ride a ferry in Mexico many years ago, between Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen. Sorry about that, but the older I get, the more this kind of stuff is going to happen!
    If you're interested in booking a cruise with American Cruise Lines, or any other cruise line, feel free to use the services of my Travel Agent, Caitlin Gallagher. Her fees are paid for by the cruise lines, so it doesn't cost you anything extra at all to have Caitlin do the work of arranging your cruise and being the contact person for the cruise line. If you've ever tried to call one of the cruise lines to book a cruise, or to make some kind of modification to your existing reservation, you'll appreciate why it's way better to have your travel agent deal with the cruise line instead of you doing it yourself! This cruise is on my bucket list. Waiting for my cruise partner to retire from her school job so we can do it in the spring for the tulip festival - her favorite flower. Thanks for another excellent video, Jim!

    Hi mr. Zimm, I suffer from sea sickness and cannot travel on the ships. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy the pleasures you endure!

    Great video! I'm very familiar with the areas you covered in Puget Sound and love them. My husband and I recently went on an American Cruise Lines trip between Jacksonville, FL and Charleston SC. It was wonderful to see that part of the East Coast. If you haven't already been on that cruise, you should do it and make another video. I'd watch it!

    I rode on the MV Coho as a 7-year-old kid in the mid-1970s. I enjoyed it immensely and I was amazed to ride in what I thought was a huge boat.

    Jim can you show us some of the ship and your onboard accommodations. Great video.

    • @JimZim

      I made a decision on this cruise to focus my efforts on documenting the places we visited and not focusing on the ship itself. So, I shot almost no video of the ship, and zero of my accomodations. One of the reasons I did this is that the ACL ships are all somewhat similar... and I already did a full ship tour of one of them. You can see it at ruclips.net/video/T-eeGyjNaw0/видео.html
      American Constellation isn't exactly the same as the ship in that video, but they are VERY similar. The biggest difference is that American Constellation does not have the outdoor grill at the back of the ship, featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza. On American Constellation, all meals are served in the restaurant on the first floor. But as far as the cabins, the lounges, the restaurant, the elevators, and the outdoor areas, what you see on my video tour is fairly representative of all the non-paddlewheel ACL ships, as far as I know.

    Don't think I would do small ship cruising like this now. Missing ports and excursions due to winds. I know it's a safety thing but that would turn me off on taking them. Glad you enjoyed though.

    Thanks Jim for sharing, in about 3 weeks we are going to board American Splendor , Mississippi River cruise , we have no idea what to expect, there are no RUclips videos about it .

      Where is your American Splendor cruise going to begin and end? I did a cruise last summer with American Cruise Lines that started in St Louis and ended up in Red Wing, Minnesota. It was on one of their "modern riverboats", though... not on one of the paddlewheelers like you will be on.

      @@JimZim American Splendor started sailing in February, round trip from New Orlean. Yes, it’s one of those paddle wheels class .

    Those aren’t seals. They are sea lions.

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад +1

      I should have known those were sea lions. Seals are much smaller. I'm embarrassed for my mistake!

    Jim, have you done a video about your drone and the licensing process?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад +1

      I haven't. Studying for the FAA exam was one of the most difficult things I've done in a long time. I'm just not very good at memorization, and there are a lot of things you have to memorize for that exam. If you are one of those people that is good at studying and memorizing facts, you would probably have an easier time than I did!

    Is that the Carnival Corporation house flag at 7:46?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  Год назад

      Wow... good eye! I didn't notice that originally, but now that you've pointed it out... I think you're right. That looks exactly like the Carnival Corporation's flag. What you were seeing at that point in the video was the three flags at the dock... so, I wonder if Carnival owns that dock. They own a lot of things that you might not suspect, such as the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway in Skagway, Alaska.
