I must say it´s strange and weird seeing one of the most influential musicians of my life for the last 15 years being interviewed in my tiny little hometown of around 1500 people and the place that I work at is in the backround... absolutely surreal!
Man, Mikael is just so down to earth. I love this guy. More than his music, it's his attitude with which he approaches it. Love it. Opeth live forever! \,,/
yea he's good at not being overbearing but staying engaged. tough to do with someone you don't know and asking personal questions, at least for some interviewers it seems
Sam knows how to interview. He never asks same old questions. However, this short interviews aren't enough for us. Please, make some long interviews. Because, it's so rare to find professional interviewer nowadays. Btw, Banger project is so underrated.
Opeth will continue to be my favorite band for a long long time i'm sure. I love almost everything they`ve put out so far and i can't think of another band with this level of consistency while changing their own style so much. Great job Banger TV! I just wish this interview was longer =)
It should, ive published music myself since 2011, terrible music in comparison to Opeth, but out of 140 songs, there's 20 im truly proud of. He is completely right
This is a very well done interview. Very engaging questions. This is the first time I think seeing an interview, where I am more intrigued by the interviewer than the interviewee. Who is this guy? He said he is a musician. I feel like he would somebody who is well versed about the music industry and metal bands.
If you don't know of him, he made a documentary called Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, which is a really cool look at the genre as a whole, and then a TV series called Metal Evolution which explores the development of different subgenres and scenes in the metal community. Great filmmaker and interviewer :)
Really good fucking interview. You kick ass, and wave the flag of heavy metal very well. I saw you interview Chino once, backstage at Toronto BlackDiamondSkye '10. Keep rockin'!
Right up to D & D, I loved Opeth, then after that it started to fall apart for me. But Akerfeldt's interviews are always good. Funny and interesting guy. I think he's just a dork like the rest of us really.
Or you can stfu and buy an ariana grande album cuz you are a crap fan. Thank god all the best bands just pursue what they want instead of listening to the fans. If you don't like it, don't listen to it
sam should do a documentary about prog rock/metal, i would love to see the guys from opeth in something like that, also the other bands in the genre like tool, mastodon etc
He says he cant see the difference between the old albums and the new, "i have some distortion and maybe a scream here and there" ...yeah, i'd say that is pretty much the difference, between a metal band and something else..
Sam Dunn, you are an amazing interviewer. I see so many interviews getting awkward and boring, and you make everything just as if it's an open talk with a friend. Well, except for... satan.
The biggest change is production, the tone and the transitions of growls to cleans. His cleans have improved with each record they put out, while his growls reached the pinnacle of perfection with Ghost Reveries. Since then, however, they've gone downhill, and only recently has it come back. It's not so much of "Opeth isn't brutal anymore" or "Opeth isn't Opeth" and "Opeth ain't evil enough" but more in a sense of how previous records flowed so well with each other, and the majestic transitions between death and progressive. I may not have enjoyed Heritage, and liked Pale Communion just a bit more, but I'm not entirely stuck in the pre-2008 Opeth as much as I was when Heritage dropped. Something that also, likely bugs Mikael, is how Damnation wasn't Blackwater Park, or Deliverance, and why do some fans hate this direction when that record was praised? It's because it still sounded like Opeth. I'm looking forward to the new album, and I did enjoy the track released a bit more with each listen. I'll still miss those MAYH and Still Life moments of magic, but I won't stop myself from listening to this new direction of the band.
I must say it´s strange and weird seeing one of the most influential musicians of my life for the last 15 years being interviewed in my tiny little hometown of around 1500 people and the place that I work at is in the backround... absolutely surreal!
You are lucky!
That's awesome mate!
Beautiful place it looks like!
every good artist is drawn to Iceland, just as every artist from Iceland is good (or at least from what I have heard)
what do people do there? My main obstacle to moving places is being worried about the economy.
One of the best communicators of the word 'shit'. He says it like he means it and really follows through with the word, haha, I love it.
I could watch both Sam, and Mikael interviews for hours. The two of them together, I would watch for days.
Add Devin Townsend to the mix and days will change to months.
Man, Mikael is just so down to earth. I love this guy. More than his music, it's his attitude with which he approaches it. Love it. Opeth live forever! \,,/
wow this interviewer is very good. ı really tired of seeing same old questions. you sir, got new subscriber!
Of course he's good. Thats Sam Dunn. He did a lot of fantastic documentaries about metal music.
yea he's good at not being overbearing but staying engaged. tough to do with someone you don't know and asking personal questions, at least for some interviewers it seems
Uncle Dunn is the best. First saw him in the Slaughter of the Soul mini documentary
Yeah and he's not fucking awkward like some of the other interviewers
Watch metal- a headbanger's journey and global metal. Good stuff.
wish this was longer
I wish the same every time, but it never happens, you know...
Opeth has managed to keep evolving while keeping their roots firmly grounded. These type of bands that do that keep me as a fan for life.
Awesome interview. Mikael is awesome.
Nice Mesarthim profile picture you got there. There's awfully few people listening to them.
100 albums of unreleased Opeth demo? I'm all in! Take my money! :D
3:36 this inspired me for some reason.
It inspired me too
It should, ive published music myself since 2011, terrible music in comparison to Opeth, but out of 140 songs, there's 20 im truly proud of. He is completely right
Akerfeldt's self-proclaimed "shit music" would probably make a really good B-side catalogue.
04:36 I love the way he says "fermented shark" 😂😂
Is that the guy that made "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey"
Yup! That's Sam.
Rock the fk on!
Loved that documentary. And the casual interview was perfect!
Agreed
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MIKAEL
Mikael may be the most talented musician I've heard in a long time, everything he does impresses me.
A mighty, MIGHTY band!
Opeth have been my gateway to extreme metal, for which I’ll be forever grateful (and skint)
The guy who made the interview did a great job asking questions and overall it was entertaining. Keep it up!
Thanks man!
Two of my favorite people in metal/music.....awesome!!!
I would love to watch Sam and Mikael just chat like this for hours. It was a pleasure to watch this interview!
Can't wait for more from Eistnaflug!
Such strong questions. Great job.
*Dear Sam: Pointy few questions that gave hundreds of answers, stunning interview with a stunning artist!*
Damn this was great! Beautiful scenery
Can we all agree that Opeth and Tool are the greatest metal bands of the last 20 years?
Mastodon
Dillinger Escape Plan
And Gojira
love the interviews ; down to earth and straigth to the point !
I really like the interviews put out on this channel. Thumbs up!
You can totally hear Sam's Canadian twang at the end, there. Thanks for the interview!
Since Mikael is swedish and swedes have surströmming, was it really a challange for him to try that shark dish?
I was expecting him to compare it to surströmming! hahaha that would've been great
Ye, both are salty, smelly and fermented fish basically
Damn Iceland looks so pretty. Mike going bold w the Jean jacket too. The audio sounds good despite it being windy pretty good stuff all around
“Of course id say we’re a good band. I’d say we’re a FUCKING good band.” Love this guy.
What a great interview, cheers!!
I love this interview! Great shark-vodka ending, too!
It's not vodka its brennivín a unsweetened schnapps or aquavit you can call it either of those 😃
Thank you, Davíð Hansen. I appreciate the education. I would love to experience it someday! Kind regards. Pauli
For some reason he sounds a bit like Morgan Freeman to me.
holy fuck youre right!!
what the shit dude!!!
He has the voice of a god. The similarity is a given.
fozza3232 lol
I like Freeman, but I always thought he was a bit... Goofy sounding sometimes.
I will never unhear this
He sounds like Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords!
This is a very well done interview. Very engaging questions. This is the first time I think seeing an interview, where I am more intrigued by the interviewer than the interviewee.
Who is this guy? He said he is a musician. I feel like he would somebody who is well versed about the music industry and metal bands.
sam did a documentary call ''a headbangers journey'', he also did an iron maiden documentary. You should check them out.
Mike is the best!!! Love that guy!
Great interview...from both of them.
What a great interview
I'm not the biggest Opeth fans but I love Mikael Akerfeldt
Excellent interview.
The look on his face when he tried the Shark, haha.
Flower Travellin Band shirt on Mikael. I love this man
need more please!
Great interview, albeit really short! Interviewer seems genuinely interested and they seem to get along really well.
If you don't know of him, he made a documentary called Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, which is a really cool look at the genre as a whole, and then a TV series called Metal Evolution which explores the development of different subgenres and scenes in the metal community. Great filmmaker and interviewer :)
Kit Palmer Oh! I think I saw that documentary way back then. Haven't heard of the TV series -- might just check that out.
I wanna be in Iceland so bad!
great interview
Opeth has to be one of the most talented group of musicians in the world.
Guy from "Global metal" is it ? Good to see you.
Love Opeth!
keep up the great work...really digging the content on this channel
damn how I love Iceland, the land and the people
Good interview.
Put some distortion and screams on it then damn it!
but it's the same shit dude
Or you can stfu and buy an ariana grande album cuz you are a crap fan. Thank god all the best bands just pursue what they want instead of listening to the fans. If you don't like it, don't listen to it
Sam is the master of the metal interview
Brennivin!
BRÄNNVIN! As we call it in sweden...
Nice guy, that reporter/journalist.
best opening question ever!!
He's so cool
I will never understand the fans that don't want opeth to dive deeper and deeper into their prog sound
Song at the start?
Someone?
someone know what's the song at the intro?? those chords are extremely good!
sam should do a documentary about prog rock/metal, i would love to see the guys from opeth in something like that, also the other bands in the genre like tool, mastodon etc
the jees There are too many obscure bands in that respect, but it would be interesting
awesome
Yes!
i went to eistnaflug to see meshuggah and opeth.... why is mikael not gettin fever. IT WAS COLD AS SHIT AND WINDY AS ... a pretty stronk wind
"First question: Just tell me why is Opeth so fucking good?".. Mike "It all comes down to talent. We are very talented" LOL
😂😂😂😂😂 Saw him at Wembley. He is so funny...
Mikael is funny as fuck, as always
What is the song in the intro? It sounds so epic
I asked the same thing. It's amazing.
Awsome
Hail to Mikael! My daughter is called Melinda, too.
Whats the song in the beginning? Sounds like new Opeth - at least the feel fits the album cover.
Not Opeth. It's a track called "Dead Reckoning" by Ethan Meixsell from the RUclips audio library.
Hey its Sam Dunn!
He says he cant see the difference between the old albums and the new, "i have some distortion and maybe a scream here and there" ...yeah, i'd say that is pretty much the difference, between a metal band and something else..
Ackerfeldt is like the Hunter S Thompson of metal to me.
Great interview :)
God I have the biggest mancrush on Mikael!
Which record Mikael bought, anyone knows? I cannot notice the record name in the video! Thanks
Sam Dunn, you are an amazing interviewer. I see so many interviews getting awkward and boring, and you make everything just as if it's an open talk with a friend. Well, except for... satan.
Mikael Akerfeldt you are GOD....
That intro music is Mark Dice's outro music what's up with that
What's the song at the start called?
Hey Mike! What about surstromming!?
What's the song at the start of this clip?
Are there any 'cathouses' in Iceland?
Mikael.. is a fucking hero man!!...and the Morgan Freeman of metal ....close your eyes and listen hehe fucking love Opeth !! så jävla bra de är !
hey is that the cool guy from the metalhead documentary ?
Awesome.. :)
The first question is absolutely fucking true and amazing hahahah
Well done!
Opeth is so fucking good though

I'm looking forward to the new album, and I did enjoy the track released a bit more with each listen. I'll still miss those MAYH and Still Life moments of magic, but I won't stop myself from listening to this new direction of the band.
whats the song in the beggining?
Did they say "brompton"?
What's the intro song?
Wayyyyyy too short. But great!
I fucking love this channel
Who is the band on the LP?
Since nobody seems to have answered, I'll ask for myself: Who does the music for the opening?
Hi. We use a mix of RUclips's copyright free library, and original compositions made for BangerTV by our own Daniel Dekay.
Ok cool thanks. This intro is particularly good.
