xinput is for controller, when left on default game saving doesn't work, and it assigns player2 for some reason. If you play on keyboard or controller that's not xinput (Sony for example) it won't work.
Nope. From what I heard, it's fully p2p and doesn't need servers, but it needs some kind of "online pass". THQ/Yukes gave it away for free before the studio went down, but it can't be obtained anymore. People who got that multiplayer pass are still playing on real consoles. If we could get that DLC file from someone, maybe Canary Netplay could work.
