    We bought our pink guava tree from a nursery when. I have no idea how old it was but it was really young. We’ve had it now for about a year and we were scared it wouldn’t make it! We live in SoCal where we have 100+ weather but during the winter, it drops to the 20s with some frost (zone 9a). We kept it covered during the night and let it get some sun during the day last winter and it looked so dead and brown. But we got some new leaves and buds in late winter/early spring. Then I noticed we had actually had some growing and the beginning of new fruits a few weeks ago. I’m super excited. I need to find a 1/2 wine barrel like yours! We are very inexperienced planters but we just bought soil and plant food that was good for fruit trees, this gel ring to keep the soil moist, and my mom made a homemade probiotic fertilizer to help it along. I hope they ripen!

      Pink guavas love moist soil. I would put it in a plastic pot instead of a ceramic one. Ceramic pot dry out a lot faster. Also, since it is growing in a pot I would feed it once a month during tour summer months. That is what I do for all my fruit trees growing in a container. I hope that was helpful 🙂 have a blesses day!

    Hey Garden Love, just came across your channel with the jujube video and ended up finding the pink guava video! I'm in zone 8a in Dallas and I grew some pink guavas from seed that I got in the Bahamas in 2015 but they have yet to flower. The first couple years they would die back from the cold but the last 2 years I've been bringing them inside for winter so they are doing good but I don't see any flowers. What time of the year do you get flowers on yours? I also planted one in the ground last year as an experiment in a area that holds a lot of water and the plant did great until winter and died back to the ground. I covered the base of the plant and now it looks like it is growing back. I will keep experimenting every year. Does yours flower on new growth or older wood? And what exactly are you feeding it?

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  4 года назад +1

      Wow that is amazing, you have so kuch much patience. Guavas grow flowers in new growth and guava can definitely fruit ifbyou grow them from seeds. I apologized for not seeing this sooner. I really hope your guava fruits. I feed this little baby eb stone fertilizer once a month. Since its in a container. Fruit trees in container need alot more fertilizer since it drains out and the tree only has the container as its source of nutrients. Please keep me posted, if you're on Instagram tag me on your post 🤗🙂 im so excited to have you over in my channel. Welcome 🤗🙂

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  3 года назад

      This tree is a tropical fruit. It usually needs lots of sun and warm weather. If you have a sunny window that you can put it in during the winter, it might be fine. Just remember when its inside dont over water to avoid rot root. I hope this was helpful. Where are you located at?

You can actually go to your local nursery and ask them to order it for you. Most nurseries have vendor whom they can get them from. I don't recall the variety (it was a small one) but I tried a guava and hated it. I love guava drinks and the smell but the fruit is filled with seeds that are hard as heck and there wasn't much flesh to eat. It's like having a mouthful of pebbles.

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  4 года назад

      Lol 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I grew up eating them so I'm use to them. Its definitely not for everyone. Not all guavas have a lot of seeds. Some have more flesh than seeds. Its all depends. Buts it's definatly not for everyone. some people love olives, I personally hate them 🤷‍♀️ but thats me. My kids love them😅. Thank you for watching and welcome.

      Hi, sorry for not responding sooner. Pineapple guavas are way more hardy than pink guavas. However, just make sure you give it plenty of water if it's in direct sun. Thst is if your area is not that humid. We do not have that much humidity here. What is your weather like?
