      Mary’s initial success as a catholic female ruler in the labyrinth that was Scottish politics goes far too unacknowledged & perhaps that unnerved Elizabeth. Not just Mary’s Catholicism but the “nobles” at Mary’s court were only noble in title, they were clan chiefs at their core & even more ruthless than the nobles in Elizabeth’s court. Mary must’ve been a formidable Queen . Granted, Mary did not learn from her mistakes where Darnley was concerned & personally I believe the “nobles” were just happy to get the infant prince into their clutches & rule as regents on behalf of a future “king” & I think Elizabeth was quite stupid not to see that, seen as she herself was a Queen in a man’s world. Even executing another Queen was appalling, especially with own mother’s appalling execution, who like Mary, her only real crime was ending up with the wrong man! (& a few plots to kill her😬)

We do know that Elizabeth at least, had so much remorse sorrow and trembling at letting the execution take place after all those years.

      Elizabeth 1's final contribution to England was to deliver Scotland's Monarchy to be under the power of England's developing Parliamentary authority. She succeeded in that by overthrowing Mary 1 of Scotland, incarceration her for 19 years, separating her from her son, the sole surviving Tudor male heir, then botching her execution, a favorite pastime of that sadistic Tudor gangster mob.
      Scotland now had no independent of England Monarchy, their Parliament was next, before that a few massacres to keep them loyal, like the McDonald's of Glencoe. And they've looted Scotland ever since on the pretence we're a union of equals. They have 60 million voters to our 5.5 million. Elizabeth 1 got her fathers desire, England absorbed Scotland by treachery.

      Elizabeth was always going to give James the throne. She believed it was his by right and also she was sick of the squabbling between Scotland and England. She wanted them united. She didn't marry on purpose, not only to keep her power as Queen but also she knew she had a secure heir in James. What Elizabeth didn't appreciate was Mary trying to usurp her throne to restore England and Scotland to Catholism

    The Staffordshire Hoard included a piece of metal inscribed with a message I think was meant for Queen Mary who was imprisoned at Staffordshire. It was inscribed with numbers 10:35, saying "Arise O Lord and let thine enemies be scattered and them that hate thee flee before thee." Since a large treasure possibly including the hoard had been stolen from a library in France where it had been disdainfully kept since it had been an undervalued present to the king of France, I am thinking a supporter of Mary in France tried to deliver this valuable treasure to Queen Mary and had either failed or come to misfortune after burying it for safekeeping while he waited opportunity to give it to the Queen who sometimes got away from her captors in the Staffordshire area and was brought back.
    When I first heard of the Staffordshire Hoard I wondered if it had any connection to Mary Queen of Scots, without knowing why. This video says clearly she was held captive in Saffordshire so that makes the connection for me. She had many friends in France who could have sent this treasure to her, which may have included weapons before it was buried.

    I find this woman to be fascinating. I learn more and more of my 12th great grandmother. Mary's life was a tragic one. Though she wanted the English throne as she believed she was the rightful queen, she would not succeed. Even the Roman Catholic Church called her the rightful queen of England and Elizabeth the "heretic queen". I am amazed that Mary didn't focus on her own kingdom. in the end, she got the last laugh on Elizabeth. Her son, James VI became Elizabeth's successor.

      @@apuppynamedoz It is true that Mary was butchered by the headman's ax; that was on orders of her cousin Elizabeth I. Do I believe in the Casket Letters? No I don't. It was Oliver Cromwell and Parliament who executed Charles I. Yes, James VI and Charles I were protestant Kings. The Church of England is Protestant. Elizabeth I chose not to marry. It was my family who formed Britain into what it is today.

      @smithamy1982 2 года назад +1

      Really.... You're 12th great grandma? Through whom's line exactly? I'd love to know. And obviously James took the throne, he was next in line and wasn't a Catholic, like his mother who was unable to raise him, and never tried to save her either. That wasn't a last laugh considering he was appointed by Elizabeth herself. Had he stepped in and saved his mother then sure, she would have had the last laugh but unfortunately, she waited for over 25yrs for him to save her for nothing because he saw her as a threat to his reign, especially since she was a Catholic.

    • @kathrynjordan8782
      @kathrynjordan8782 2 года назад +1

      @@smithamy1982 Through my maternal Great Grandfather Stuart. James was RAISED Protestant since his mother was FORCED to abdicate her throne when she married her 3rd husband the Earl of Bothwell. She was not a threat to his reign. There was nothing he could do to save her. It was the Scottish nobility that sent her running to England in the first place. The Scottish nobility was not going to allow Mary to regain her throne as they did not want to be put under the guise of Rome again. They went through a Protestant Reformation. What I probably should say is that it was Margaret Tudor, the wife of James IV and sister of Henry VIII, got the last laugh. Henry VIII had said that NO heir of his sister Margaret would sit on the English throne. He never thought that ALL THREE OF HIS CHILDREN would not have children (his heir didn't live long enough to marry and have children). You seem to have lots of problems with people's family tree. I am proud of my family tree.

    I suspect that Mary was (as described by one historian) a spoiled princess. She was raised in the fairyland of the French court. Cossetted and beloved, she grew up believing that she was a privileged being whose will could not be questioned. Moving to Scotland must have been a real shock...the Scots were not fawning diplomats and courtiers, they were fierce, battlehardened brutes. She took the throne during the most complicated period in European history; while religious wars were being fought everywhere. I doubt that she was prepared to understand the complexity of every decision. Meanwhile, in England, prepared since infancy to fight and prevaricate, Elizabeth ruled carefully and consulted endlessly....
