Every Survivorlike has synergies between certain weapons, but this is the first one I've seen where you're actually assembling a combo of moves rather than disconnected piles of projectiles. I like that.
I'm not sure the survivor-like gameplay works, but literally everything else is incredible. Like, the aesthetic is absolute top-tier, the art is great, the little bits like being able to use the environment perfectly captures the genre its working with, and you building up a combo is super cool. But the survivor mechanics really don't incentivize melee at all, swarms of enemies with contact damage against your limited range and fairly high cooldown on attacks does not feel like a good match-up.
Ya know what would be nice? If the enemies had to strike, even if it was just a split second. Contact dmg is kinda lame. Also, does this have twin stick? It looks like you can only aim the direction you're moving, making getting hit almost inevitable.
This definitely looks awesome! That attack range is so low though. Wish he could just run backwards and attack like that, would make it way easier. Well played.
Just tried this. It's cool in many aspects but what a frustrating experience it is to try to hit any enemy. You throw tiny punches and the direction of your strikes is tied to the movement direction. You end up walking straight into any enemy all the time, it sucks.
Mechanically most Survivor like games you kite enemies. So attacking forward is like, the worst thing you want, especially melee ranged attacks. Generally you want to shoot behind you, or all around you.
@@AlRoderick The game desperately needs something like that. Looks like the dev is specifically looking for feedback, so hopefully they'll add something similar.
I'm surprised there has not been a Warhammer 40k themed survivor game. I think taking on endless waves of Tyranids, orcs, Necrons, cultists, etc... just lends itself to this game style.
Looks like this is might be inspired by a old Jackie Chan movie were he is fighting in a mall, (I can't remember the name tho) or the 1 were he's fighting in the Lil grocery store. or the other 1 were he fights in the other store. I just realized how many Jackie Chan movies I have seen, it's a lot.
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 1726 Oh this is a really fun Survivorlike indeed, a very fun style :D. Also, just the little things like the shooting behind, money being teeth and the hockey playet wearing rollerskates XD lots of really fun little details. Plus, gotta agree, some really nice art Can't believe this was just the demo, do hope we get to see more and the full version, exciting :D
Honestly this game needs to just be upgraded to a beat-em-up where you mash corresponding buttons for the combo's instead of waiting for cooldowns, and it desperately NEEDS control of facing.
I played the demo too and I liked a lot about it, but one of my complaints is the ability to pick up and use a gun. This really breaks the feel of the game for me. For me this now makes me feel like a villain and not an underdog. In the martial arts movies that this game does so well to evoke feelings of the main character would rely on their martial arts skills and creativity to overcome the odds, not on guns. Maybe the gun could be replaced with a thrown weapon that goes through multiple enemies? Maybe some Kunai or Shuriken?
cool aesthetics, love me some jackie chan action, but was it really that laggy? looks like 4 enemies go down, and all of a sudden you lose your momentum for a second and get swarmed? also, invisible wall? i mean yeah, i get it, its a demo, but if the devs work on that, it looks like it could be really fun! a bit different with the lack of flying swords and bibles, and crazy anti vampire lazers lol...
Well, it's funny about this game is I don't think they realize how martial arts movies actually showed fights. It was never one bad guy at a time not everybody grouping up on you at once

Game could definitely do with being able to walk backwards.
Also being able to face up/down, but for a demo it's certainly proof-of-concept.

That would significantly increase system requirements.
@@w415800 oh would it now? lol
I feel like like in game based around melee, grabbing the upgrades that increase your strike range are always the best choice?
Would be cool if the enemies also punched back. (Even just as an animation when they touch and damage you)

Yeah, just watching Tom play this, the gameplay seems like it needs more refining.

It would be fun if they made this a twin stick style thing where your facing direction and your movement direction are independent.

@@Lordborgman he coulda got rid of his jab and other shitty directional moves and replaced em with the other color types that do more
Relatably, Tom's love of martial arts films also directly fed into how *_Kung-Pow_* quotes came to permeate his regular phrases.
I haven't watched Kung-Pow since it came out, I didn't and still don't realize that he's quoting it, what does he say that's from it?
@@flithbrin THATS ALOTTA NUTS
Same. I didn't even like that movie! But it did have some very silly dialogue.

Cool idea, needs work. Attacks should be able to go in all directions not just horizontally at least
Thats Jackie chan, back of the cards cant tell but is that police story? 10/10
The art for this is rad af
Pretty cool take on survivor style games, and karate survivor is cool tol

"The more money you earn, the better you are at martial arts."
Early Yakuza games agree.
Having just watched RTgame playing Yakuza 0, yes
i like how theres still innovation in the survivor genre
actually really cool idea, I like this one
Love the style. Hope to see more of it on the channel.
This reminds me so much of Rumble in the Bronx. I was a little upset I couldn't buy this game and play it.
Definitely looks fun
I hope they have some unlockable characters when this comes out. That fuels 95% of my interest on these kinds of games
Really Nice looking game. I like the look of it. Thanks for playing this, Tom!
I love the old Jackie Chan movies and his use of improvised weapons, this is definitely a 'survivor like' for me.

At least from the few min I watched so far
Would love to see more !
"There's only one thing you need to know about Karate: Guns beat Karate. Every time."
That is an awesome looking game!
I wish there's a "lock direction" button so I can backpedal while throwing punches.
Shouldn't this really be called "Kung Fu Survivor"?

It feels like they should be punching you, not just doing touch damage 🤔
I hope they ad auto-targeting and get rid of contact damage.

does not compare to master betty! .... nobody will understand xD
This game really needs a "roll" button that dodges. Seems way to easy to get stuck in a large group of enemies... Otherwise, gorgeous game.
Does anybody know of an item or way to increase your health OTHER THAN using the card upgrades ?
Who runs barter town?
Aiming where you are running means an ignore for me. Needs to auto look at nearest
And guy combos too slow
You need to hit the enemies to kill them, cheers 👍😄
This type of game sucks when you make it close combat
