what people from outside our region don't understand is that mallacoota and other towns hit by the bushfires are towns of 500-3000 people... lismore is a regional city of 35,000 people and almost NO ONE was unaffected by this flood. not even including surrounding villages like uki, nimbin, tuntable, clunes, bexhill etc... it's tens of thousands of people
Had to drive through South Lismore and its CBD today. Next to no businesses operating. Very few flood affected homes occupied. Many will never be lived in again and will eventually be bulldozed. It’s not over. These people not only need help now, but we’ll into the future.
Lismore is so bad. I grew up there. Its my home and i remember floods there before the levee. This flood was beyond anything. It wasnt just deeper than any in recorded memory. The force of the water was incredible. Force that shocks me to the core.
Really feel for these people.. but it’s clearly time to start planning to leave Lismore and the Government should be helping them do this via land swaps and necessary building assistance. Trying to rebuild Lismore isn’t admirable, it’s foolish and ignorant.
On a scale 0 to 10 for pain. The is about a 3. 10 is losing a child, having a terminal illness, being disfigured, losing a limb or becoming a paraplegic. Some perspective!!!
Thank you very much for this report. We are not coping! Stop calling us resilient and please sent some actual help.
I absolutely agree with you - I am sick of being described as "resilient" - I'm over it, emotionally and mentally exhausted.
absolutely heartbreaking TY for this report totally left me in tears ❤️
This definitely needed to be highlighted
Good journalism
The difficulties red cross put these people through to receive their $500 flood grant was nothing short of disgusting. These people need help.
Yeah all that did was replace the value of food lost from our cupboards, fridge and freezer.

Geez what will they do when it floods again? ⏳
How wise, rebuild again on a known flood plain, what could go wrong?
Its not coping months later. Some shops are still untouch from that day.
9 months on and not much has changed..
Lismore is at a standstill. worst i've ever seen. j.
