    thick blobs of UV coating take much longer to cure because the light has to penetrate that much more of the substance. i do thin coats or multiples of thin coats to build it up.

    Thats such a daft place to put tracks, it has to be done on purpose, just to catch people out.
    Apple seems to love creating traps and annoying designs.
    Looks like you needed to use a toothpick to place your blob of coating, just a daft thought :-)

    Neat trick, (barely) wetting the jumper wire off the solder residue on the grounding/standoff pad. Wish Imhad this oevel of control. My challenge isn't really, the iron, but keeping the jumper wire steady enough and aligned with my other, non dominant hand.

    • @MarkShaffer

      Yes that really is the challenge at this scale. I've grown to be able to use either hand over the years, but keeping things stable requires a steady hand and maybe a glass of scotch.

      I'm currently working and training on/for this now - stedy hand, and getting to know the schematics. A scotch would surely help, but this being a commercial workplace dayjob, I don't think that would fly 😅 Any good tips for a newbie, thst you really wish you knew when you first started doing this, or skill/technique you wish you'd learned much earlier to save headaches and frustration?

      @@pr0xZen my wife who is an artist pointed out that I naturally developed a technique artists use - making sure my arm and outside edge of my hand are resting on my work surface. This takes out the movement from the elbow and wrist. I also try to rest the tweezer tips on the board whenever possible.

      @@MarkShaffer I usully do this with my "solder hand", but teying to simulate the situation away from the bench, I don't think I do this with the other. Many thanks!

    What are the symptoms of long screw damage?

    • @christianrey5312
      @christianrey5312 6 лет назад +1

      blue screen and constant reboot, plus mine had no info about the battery percentage (it was always 100%)

      When I did it, Imhad done my repair, booted fine but I had forgotten to attach that shield. Opened it up again, put on the shield. Ididn't realize my mistake having nudged and mixed up the screws at first. Got the blue screen and bootloop. Opened it up, removed the shield to check and reseat the flex cables, and it booted fine. In retrospect, I do believe I probably had not torn off the traces at that point, but that long screw dug down into the PCB just far enough to short some of them. I tossed it up to being one of the flex cables not being seated properly. I assembled again, still not realizing I had mixed up the screws earlier. This time I definitely tore through those traces, as nothing would bring it out from the BSOD bootloop. Microscope inspection confirmed my suspicion, I could even see two traces torn down through the standoff, it was that bad.
