Common heresy believes that Jesus went to Hell after the cross to suffer a while long, this explains how salvation is possible without the unbiblical opinion.
@@BornagainrogerJesus never went to hell because no one is in hell right now, that doesn’t happen until the second death. And if you’re referring to Hades, which is where people currently do reside, then we have to recognize that Hades before Christ was split into 2 parts, one for those who rejected God, and another for those who turned to Him in faith known as “Abraham’s bosom”. A clear depiction of this is in Luke 16:19-31. A very clear distinction is given to those who were waiting in Abraham’s bosom for the time when an appropriate sacrifice for sin could be made, and those who were in eternal punishment. Though close enough for people to speak to one another, yet a large enough chasm that no one could cross.

@@harrymurray9702 The Greek manuscripts differentiate between 2 different resting places, one is Hades, the other is Gehenna. Hades is the Greek term for Sheol in the OT. Sheol is a resting place for both the righteous and the unrighteous. Even Jacob and David are both spoken of as going to Sheol. The righteous have been delivered out of Sheol/hades after Christ defeated death, and now those in Christ no longer go to Sheol/hades, but go directly to heaven. Gehenna is the permanent final resting place that is yet to exist. Gehenna (hell) is the lake of fire that Jesus casts hades and death into in Revelation 20:13,14.
