Very cool ideas! I'm impressed at the forces you're able to generate from the flat coils on the flexible substrate. Seems if you play with the pitch of those coils you could build a linear actuator of sorts. E.g. 1 coil per cm on one strip and 1 coil per 9mm on the other, causing them to go into and out of phase every 9cm. You could then energize coils that are offset by 1 and 2 mm to create a lateral force to align them. Roll that signal down the two strips in phase with the alignment of the coils and you would get relative motion. Maybe?
Intresting idea 🙂 i think it would work if you have each coil on separate single layer which would be a little challenging. The coil pcb i have tested so far are connected on 4/2 layers
Very cool... I have some great ideas for soft robotics making muscle fiber like strands that contract like an actual fiber. Trying to figure out how I can mass produce super small in different configurations to use as actuators vs servos
If you made a lot of smaller coils on your pcb strip, would it be possible to make some sort of force sensitive skin-like sensor? Having a "bone" made of magnets and a short distance to the coils there should be a small voltage induced in the coils when they're moved closer or further from the core, right? I suppose Hall-sensors would work better, but I guess this could be smaller and have a higher resolution for the location of the touch.
I tried to do that but it had a very minor effect. This is because these coil actuators are coreless. Adding an iron core in the middle would increase their magnetic field which might create this behaviour
I have questions about your tech. Do you get any heat build up with this magnetic movement. I ask this because I have a design for a full electromagnetic pneumatic feral fluid stem to copy the human heart and circulatory system to aid in the cooling of my humanoid bot. I am thinking this system might be used to produce and or reclaim some energy in my bot.
You have an amazing mind! Now at around 2:23 - 2:24 in the video you show some electronic actuators with some foil things(wings? ) attached with cables. Why does this look like it is moving in the air?????? are my eyes deceived?
If you place two strips against each other, and fix both ends, then giving the strips the same signal should cause them to repel each other, contracting the length of the two. Doing it this way, you can get a lot of strength without the added weight from the magnets. and fibers of this can be magnetically shielded, or operated at different frequency to make bigger fibers, similar to human muscles. Let me know if you want to talk about it!
Your future looks bright my friend. Keep up your work.
Robert s His present itself looks very bright as far as I’m concerned 😛
This is pretting amazing, can't wait to test one!

Excellent ideas and implementation

Very inspiring! Keep up the good work!
Cool stuff Carl

I'm not sure it's something that needs to be tested.. I think it can be done though with hall effect sensors on the same board
Awesome
Nice job, Good luck
If you stacked the actuators could you get them to work with out the permanent magnetic. Zig zag and make a compression decompression process

Carl Bugeja tape a tiny magnetic to the back and use the coil to augment

The heat will depend with how much voltage you're driving and also how many turns (resistance) the coil has

nice. with this technology I can imagine drones without propellers in the near future...
An ornithopter perhaps 🤔
His accent makes his iq sound 100 pts higher🤓
