Edmonton is the only team that could somehow manage to lose a game on a kickoff. And yet, I'm really not surprised. Ottawa played great ball too, 480 yards and 2 TDs for Brown is a huge confidence booster this early in the year.

For some reason I started looking at game summaries this year and it is way more entertaining than the NFL. Of course I have soured a bit on the NFL overall. A question perhaps someone can explain, it feels like the refs call a lot of pass interference. What are the rules for this in the CFL? Thank you, most respectfully.

    • @sloburnjo
      @sloburnjo Месяц назад +1

      Cfl defensive pass interference explained
In the Canadian Football League (CFL), defensive pass interference (DPI) is a penalty that occurs when a defensive player interferes with an eligible receiver’s ability to catch a forward pass. Here’s a breakdown of the rules and penalties associated with DPI in the CFL:
      What constitutes DPI?
DPI occurs when a defensive player physically contacts an opponent, creating separation, redirecting, restricting, or impeding the opponent’s opportunity to play the ball. This can include:
Physical contact that creates separation between the receiver and the ball
Redirecting the receiver’s path to the ball
Restricting the receiver’s ability to catch the ball
Impeding the receiver’s opportunity to play the ball
      Penalties for DPI
In the CFL, defensive pass interference is punished by an automatic first down at the spot of the foul or 10 yards from the point of the last scrimmage, whichever is closer to the offending team’s goal line.
      Key points to note:
DPI is a foul that can be committed by either team, but it is more commonly called on the defense.
The penalty for DPI is an automatic first down, which can significantly impact the game’s momentum.
The CFL allows coaches to challenge DPI calls, which can lead to reviews and potential reversals of the call.
      Comparison to other leagues
For comparison, the National Football League (NFL) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) have similar rules regarding DPI, but with some differences:
In the NFL, DPI is punished by an automatic first down at the spot of the foul.
In the NCAA, DPI is punished by an automatic first down at the spot of the foul, but only up to 15 yards.
In high school football, the penalty for DPI is a 15-yard penalty with the down replayed.
      Conclusion
In summary, CFL defensive pass interference is a penalty that occurs when a defensive player interferes with an eligible receiver’s ability to catch a forward pass. The penalty for DPI is an automatic first down at the spot of the foul or 10 yards from the point of the last scrimmage, whichever is closer to the offending team’s goal line. Coaches can challenge DPI calls, which can lead to reviews and potential reversals of the call.
