wicked was the first book of a series, actually. the first book was a lot weirder and a bit darker (like game of thrones meets oz in a way) but the later books are more toned down. my favourite is a lion among men, which actually followed the cowardly lion! i would recommend going back and rereading the first one as an adult, but also reading the sequels!
