    Lieutenant governor Josh Green, your wife and kids may be native hawaiian. U aint!! Sad situation when Micronesians are getting more benefits then hawaiians. That's why the islands will always be a failure. Catering to outside tourism and economics before the kanakas 💯

    Not only native Hawaiians! I was Born here raised here family been here for generations too! I have family who have Hawaiian blood. Yet. I cannot buy a home here. I rent and who knows when my rent will go up to the point where I can't afford it any more. It's depressing to think about, if nothing is done I may die way from my home that I was born in. I work like 90 hrs, near minimum wage, a week JUST TO SCRAPE BY!

      Then maybe we should create a plan that can accommodate as many people that want to come. The solution is creating huge housing complex with low mortgages and changing all of the zoning to incentivize only building high cap housing to build generational wealth. Maybe even creating new rules on how money is lent out so people can rebuild current housing to be multifamily homes. Also discouraging new incoming people before we get housing under control.

    • @a.a.a.8365

      @user-db9lz2yl7i
      It's a great thought to a great start.
      It will take all the effort of all voter's to make this possible...,
      and yes it is very
      Possible if the right individual(s) are elected to do the right thing for the people and their beautiful land.

    • @shinnidan
      @shinnidan 10 месяцев назад

      @user-db9lz2yl7i you on the right track there. But that leave politicians to deregulate some of the building and housing laws, as well as property tax laws. However, we need to have restitution on mainland people from buying up all the properties just to line up their own pockets at the expense of local people. With the deregulation and zoning and property taxes go down. Will create or streamline more housing construction. With the streaming of more hosing developments, according to the law of supply and demand, prices if housing should drop.
      It seems simple, but would the politicians do that ...more than likely...no. politicians love to take money out of working class citizens.

    They don't really care for Kanaka Maoli. Businesses just fear those that don't "look Hawaiian" running the luaus and perpetuating the culture.
    Can you imagine a haole from somewhere in Maine wearing a grass skirt and serving you a Mai Tai at your next luau?
    Trust me, film industries do it all the time of portraying cultures to the audience. It's all for business

      I've been preaching this along with not allowing foreign (non American) buyers for years. I worked in a building in Ward area that at the time had 90% sold with 10% occupancy. Every buyer I saw was foreign, most never stepped foot in the place. Today that same building is not even 20% occupied. Easy to see at night, only 10-15 lights on.

    You have to push that no foreigner can buy and own land in hawaii like other countries to protect the native born for housing. This will drop the market prices more than half.

    Realtors and developers are just as much to blame. Many just looking for the fast buck. Give the priority to Hawaiian then any locals on affordable housing. A good ratio between luxury homes and affordable housing needs to be set with more on affordable housing. Raise the tax on those luxury homes or non residential homes. Make it a law for realtors that sell a luxury home, they need to sell ten affordable houses. Force them to help the less fortunate. Maybe that wrong, but something needs to get done. Tired of grandkids having to find work in the mainland. All you lazy local bums, start filling all the local jobs. Don't let the businesses find workers from the mainland.

It’s not right that we are being priced out of Hawaii because of our own government is letting rich outsiders come here, buying homes, and pushing us out is just outrageous! Where is the Aloha from our government? Such a shame. Hawaii is no longer the same anymore.

    As someone born and raised here, I agree with this initiative, and the definition of foreign needs to be expanded to military (who should not be allowed to move off base and buy up our local housing) US/Global real-estate companies, and people from the US with no prior ancestry in Hawai`i. It's ridiculous here; a family across the street from us, could not afford the mortgage to keep their home from an inheritance split and was forced to move, *then investors bought it out, flipped the thing, and now it's listed at almost $1.5 million.* Zero guarantee that house is going to to a local family unless there are substantial rules in place.

    That’s what capitalism does. It takes whatever the land has to offer and sacrifices the people that were on the land to begin with. If they wanted to fix the housing issue they would allow for reservations. Let the people that want to, live in the land tax free the same way they did before the businessmen showed up and took everything.

    I just visited Kualoa ranch which is 4000 acres of previously Hawaiian land. When the last Hawaiian owner died with no kids to will it to the land was given to King Kalakaua. That land should have been given to Hawaiians not a mainland doctor. Of course Kalakaua is to blame I guess because he sold the land to his friend for just a few dollars. The price of a used Honda civic today.

    You need to get rid of single family house zoning and parking minimums. Build mixed use denser communities. The Light Rail is a start, but more options for transit and development are needed. Why Oahu keeps developing around the Automobile is what causes congestion.

    This is not a cultural issue it is economic. Most cities in America are over priced and over inflated too. I have owned homes on all 3 coasts - some places are a little better than others, but nowhere is easy. It's a fact of life that you can't run from, or, blame just one place. The worst thing is to put the blame on others and expect them to repay you for supposed damages. It doesn't work.
