Remember that you need at least five years of experience in the respective field. I recommend doing the SSCP certification first, simply because it helps to get into certification exams at (ISC)2. Also if you complete the SSCP you can take the CISSP one year earlier.

Actually from ISC2 point of view and for the exam, this explanation is reasonable. Neither does ISC2 go beyond in explaining the functions of due care. As per IT governance framework (COBIT) due care function is tied to 'Governance' and due diligence to the 'management'. Governance has a role of evaluate, direct and monitor. It is about ensuring that stakeholder needs are evaluated to identify and agree on the objectives that must be (1) achieved, (2) directed through prioritization and decision making, (3) monitored for performance, and (4) compliance against objectives. This is due care. Due diligence on the other hand is ensuring that the activities undertaken and monitored are aligned with the direction set by the governance function!
