I may not know much about Nixon as a 23 year old but I will say what I do know. He was, like you said, excellent in foreign policy and to me a wonderful speaker and a very intelligent man. I think not only us as a people but our schools misconstrue his entire presidency due to Watergate. The man won by a landslide for a reason I think. If you look at the things going on recently and with today's presidential candidates I think Nixon would've never been impeached in our time. As President Clinton said, Nixon knew the risk of communism yet also had the wisdom to reach out and work together even though that wasn't a generally accepted idea. Something us citizens will never fully understand in my opinion. I don't mean to speak as if I know everything about the man and his time in office, I just wish to share my thoughts on it as a young man.

@@captaincarl8230 I find your comment to be utterly fascinating with regard to history. Especially your choice of favorite presidents.
Nixon was ten times worse than Trump could ever HOPE to be and yet, compare what they did to Nixon compared to what they are doing to Trump.
Nixon literally banned certain reporters from the White House because they were critical of him. He had his famous 'enemies list' which were citizens, many of prominence, who disagreed with him. He used the government to go after them such as having the IRS audit them and their relatives when they had done nothing wrong. Then there were the 'plumbers.' You need to read up on that. Then there is Watergate. While there is still no proof that Nixon himself ordered the break in but his aides had, Nixon still obstructed justice during the cover up.
As for JFK, they used to sneak different women into the White House all the time for him to boof. Right under Jackie's nose too. The American people were never told what a horn dog adulterer he was either. Yet, Trump allegedly has ONE affair long before he ran for president and they're trying to make it a crime that did not disclose it to the American people when he ran by paying the woman more money not to talk about the affair than the National Enquirer was willing to pay her TO talk about it!

If we should have the misfortune to be under another Democrat at the time of the death of Trump, it is almost impossible to imagine any of them saying anything so kind. With regards to foreign policy and understanding the world and the world leaders, Nixon was one of the top 10 presidents of United States. His 1982 book "Leaders" remains a classic. This is also very much evident in Clinton's comments. It is problematic for the rest of the world, especially to Europe (where I live) that today the concept of foreign policy is seen by many US politicians as something almost negative.

In 1978 Nixon during a speech and Q&A in England at the Oxford Club (video on youtube) commented on the many leaders in the USA that had attended Oxford. He said that while the president of the USA wasn't on that list, Nixon predicted by the time the century is out there would be one. Clinton had attended Oxford, and was running in his first election for governor at the time of Nixon's comments. No doubt Clinton had caught his attention.

I'm not American and though in my early 20s by the time never heard of this speech of honour.
And now I feel extremely ignorant for my entire life after watching last weeks bombardment of short feeds with Nixon interviews. A surely intelligent man, knowing to take the right and difficult decisions at the right time, serving not only the USA but the entire free world. If I hadn't watched all Nixons interviews I would probably have concluded this vid was an AI production, or likewise hill billy conspiracy clown things.

President Clinton was, I believe, the last president that served during the 20th century. He was the president when I was born. What an amazing tribute he gave. I remember watching a documentary about President Nixon and the Watergate Scandal. I know times weren't easy back then, and they certainly aren't now. No matter how much politicians go up against each other, they still ultimately respect each other.

I have visited both the Nixon Library and the Clinton Library. Both men understood getting along with the opposition party for what was best for America. One day American presidents may return to this proper behavior. I remember when President Nixon was near death President Clinton posted a military guard at the site. Though I was not a big fan of President Clinton, I rememberd that and admired President Clinton for that action. How showed honor to an honorable man.

@@bobjordan5231 Well, I live in the New York metro area and I know that Nixon died at Washington Heights Family Health Center which was part of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, one of the best hospitals in the country. Of course after they merged with Cornell it's now known as New York Presbyterian Hospital and they have multiple campuses across New York City.
However, I wonder why Clinton would post a military guard outside his room? Reagan and Bush didn't have that. I'm also sure Carter, who turns 100 this year won't have it either.

@@bobjordan5231 I'm not doubting you when you say Clinton did it.
      I was just wondering why?
It's very common for former presidents to advise current presidents and the former ones retain their top level security clearance for life.
Nixon also advised Reagan. Probably more so than Clinton. Reagan reached out to Nixon when he was choosing his first cabinet as well. It was Nixon who recommended Gen. Alexander Haig as secretary of state. He was the guy who, after Reagan got shot, said that he was in charge 'here in the White House' and also got the order of succession wrong in saying that he was third in line to the presidency.
Nancy Reagan was appalled that Ron talked to Nixon and advised him to not let that be generally known.

As a general proposition, Richard Nixon sought to reach the correct result -- regardless of the "politics" involved. Because of this, he was able to dramatically lower tensions with the Soviet Union and with China. Domestically, he was responsible for the creation of both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. He was, in too many ways to count, simply a superlative President of the United States. He's much missed -- now and always.
