    Hey Asid, thanks for the video, excellent content and well delivered. I have trawled thru hours of RUclips until I listened to your video. It has ticked all the boxes, now I've got to go back to my PC and apply it to my little home network here, (down under). Well done, you explain things really well, perhaps I'll send you an email if I have a question. Thanks, Dave.

    Thanks. I couldn't get a shared folder to show up on my other PC with other tutorials that were using the Homegroup method. Nobody ever specified that COMPUTER in the address needed to be replaced by the IPv4 of the local computer that hosts the files which is definitely where I was going wrong.
    I noticed that you didn't mention creating a static IP though and you might want to add an annotation and a link to another video that explains how to do this because if your local IP changes then so do any shortcuts to that folder. A dynamic IP would be bad for the method you're using in the video.

    Awesome video, thank you!!. Question, say I have my desktop on at home and I am out at a coffee shop. Can I connect to my desktop at home over the coffee shops network. Meaning, can I type in my ip address at home and connect to it this way? Or is there any other way to do this? Like FTP to it for example?

    • @AsidsTechTips
      @AsidsTechTips  8 лет назад +1

      Yes you can, You need to set up a home VPN connection. A "Virtual Private Network ( VPN ) " connection is a logical " like secure network cable " from where ever you are to your home network. to do this your router at home needs to have the feature of creating a VPN connection for you to connect to.
      Once you have connected to your VPN connection, you can use an IP address with in the range of your home network.

    @mabst6 Hi, Yes if your TV supports this function. However If you would like to know how to set up a multimedia sharing network please email me. and I will show you my set up.
    I do not really recommend using the ftp function "if you can get it to work" as a media server

    Asid, will this work to share info between 2 computers... if not is there a way to do so if both computers are on the same network ??? I am trying to figure out a way to share files among numerous PC's that are all on the same network, trying to keep it as cost effective as possible.

    Amazing video, but I got 1 question. The problem is the IP address changes, and that could be an issue, what to do to deal with that?

    • @AsidsTechTips
      @AsidsTechTips  8 лет назад +4

      On the computer that is hosting the share, Set a "Static IP" go into your ipv4 properties and manually set the static ip there. then it will not change, either that. or if you have a decent router, set up a static DHCP reservation to the mac address of that computer.

    Great vid. But is there any way to add multiple users at once and not have to close all the windows each time? Not really a critical question so I won't email you about it. Just curious.

    • @AsidsTechTips
      @AsidsTechTips  8 лет назад

      Yes, windows server can do this. Wimdows client operating systems are not designed to serve, but mor so to connect and receive.

    • @AsidsTechTips
      @AsidsTechTips  8 лет назад

      +phani kumar Hello Kumar, This is because you are using a version of windows that is not really designed to allow you to do this. You need to get a version of whindows that is not "home" "Basic" or the lowest version, anything from Pro or higher. What windows operating system do you have? I can sell you a legal windows licence key for a Pro version os. Just email me, Asidscript@gmail.com

    Does this work on windows 10? If it does, can you please tell me how because instead of "Computer" (Win7) mine says "This PC" and does not have an Operating System folder. Please reply.

    • @AsidsTechTips
      @AsidsTechTips  8 лет назад

      +Nick Marvin Yeah works on all operating systems, if you need more help or assistance on this we can do it together in real time. just reach out to me via mail and we can connect on a messenger. Computer, My computer, This PC are all the same thing. and the OS folder was just one location, you can create the (folder used to share the content on your root) which is on all windows machines c:/
      as for that the permissions and folder sharing steps are the same, the windows might look a little different but they are all basically the same.
      Maybe with the exception of windows editions, you will have a lot of difficulty setting permissions and groups if your using a "home" edition and not a Pro edition but this is easily fixed by upgrading, and I can get you an upgrade to w10 pro for under 50 bucks if need be

      I think I am good for now. The reason for me needing to make a shared folder is because I am going to make a batch chat room. Since my school uses shared folders, I am going to maybe do it there. ;) Maybe.

      On a client OS this is not impossible but very difficult and does not stay working for long, you need a Server Operating system

      Hi There Ali Jan, Its best to mail me questions (asidscript@gmail.com). I dont know what kind of bootable disk your trying to create or how your doing it so it is hard to answer you. I absolutely can walk you through the steps but it would be good to know what you want to make bootable, if they are loose files, or if its another cd. If it matters that you want a bootable CD because I would recommend USB, quicker and easier and more cost effective etc. Send me a Mail man. Ill sort you out

    How to do this over Wifi?

    • @AsidsTechTips
      @AsidsTechTips  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Jamie,
      You sure can, Wifi is just another kind of connection. Think of it as an invisible automatic connecting cable. It still connects you to your network, giving you all the services and options you have set up on your network.
