  • East Timor (Timor Leste), a country many people have never heard of. It's Asia's newest and least visited country. Founded in 2002 the country is situated on the eastern part of Timor Island, whereas the western part belongs to Indonesia. After 400 years of Portuguese colonialization, East Timor became part of Indonesia in 1975. After a horrendous independence war the country eventually became independent in 2002, becoming Asia's youngest country.
    East Timor is a tropical paradise embedded between Sulawesi island in the north and Australia in the south. The country is one of the poorest nations in Asia as well as one of the most untouched and secretive countries in the region.
    I am travelling to the capital city of Dili, and explore the bustling streets and surroundings of the city. I meet some of the most heartwarming and welcoming people on this remote island 🇹🇱
    Join me on this touching adventure on the brink of the Timor Sea in Asia's youngest and most mysterious country 🎬

    Hi Yan, from Brunei to Timor Leste, pretty amazing to see you visiting the lesser travelled countries in Southeast Asia, and I truly enjoy experiencing these countries with you and Flo through your videos. I really think your formula works, ie showing your viewers the lesser seen parts of the world with your finesse in cinematography, no lack of interaction with locals, and explanation of the country's culture/history etc.

    My uncle used to live in East Timor when it was still a part of Indonesia, but during the conflict, he moved back to Java. Some others also moved to Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
    He said that Dili (East Timor) is So beautiful. I'm really grateful you went there so I could experience its beauty throught your video.

      Formerly part of Indonesia from 1975 to 2001 and a former Portuguese colony from 1611 to 1975
      But it was rather occupied by the then Suharto government which effectively blocked the established of an independent sovereign state since its ACTUAL INDEPENDENCE from Portugal

      Timor-Leste will never let its citizens to work in Malaysia because there is no agreement between the two countries, some scammers from Indonesia always try to delude Timor-Leste citizen to work in Malaysia but at the end Malaysia Government successfully identified them and TL government facilitates the departure of their citizens back to Timor-Leste safely.

      They are obviously related and acquainted with their neighbors of the same island and close islands. I hope the peoples of both countries will get over past government struggles. In some cases, I think it would have been better if places stayed with colonial power but have internal autonomy. Insular SEA is quite a heterogeneous place, where a centralised government is probably not the best ides

      @@napoleonfeanorsome timorese is too arrogant to admit that independence only make them suffer and poor. The funny thing is they always beg to Indonesia for anything the country they hate and called colonizer.

    • @napoleonfeanor
      @napoleonfeanor 12 дней назад

      @@DaengKulle795 They are not much poorer than similar parts of Indonesia. Your government did a lot of terrible things and invading a small country after the Portuguese left is among them. Indonesia only became a country after the Dutch. An ethnically and religiously diverse country is better governed by a federal system. If East Timor had been given autonomy within Indonesia, it maybe wouldn't have left again.

    • @DaengKulle795
      @DaengKulle795 12 дней назад

      @@napoleonfeanor the poorest part of Indonesia is West timor but they still has better infrastructure, higher hdi, higher gdp percapita, higher employment and etc basically better in every metric.
      The problem in East Timor that they believe their Portuguese descent elites whose loyalty is to Portugal.
      Indonesia had to invade the country as their civil war spill over to indonesian border. 4 parties wanted to join Indonesia and 1 communist party wanted to independence.
      Indonesians we let them go as they do not contribute anything just an economic burden and rebelious bunch of people who were ungrateful different than West timor.
      West timor has the same culture but they respect and love Indonesia and wants to be part of it.
      They were offered special autonomy they can even keep their flag language and oil money. But they chose to follow Portugal and Australia propaganda. They praise white people and hate their own brown skin brother next door.

I have been to Vanuatu many times, from New Zealand, and sometimes could walk all day on beautiful tracks and sand finding beautiful beaches and blue sea. Sometimes walk all day and see no people at all. Very friendly people. I know a lot of Chinese people just love blue sea and blue sky, so I am sure you would enjoy it.

    East Timor has come a long way. It's beautiful now. Not too long ago it was on the cover of Time magazine for all the wrong reasons- chaos, destruction, war. In a few decades I'm sure it will be a prosperous place.
    We can tell you two are wilting from the heat. Nice show. Thank you.

      Without money from outside will be no development. The money will not come from Indonesia or islamic countries. So this country will stay a fail except they find natural ressources. Maybe they will have debts from war time too. Does not look prosperous.

      @@thomasmuller9243 Australia is the largest backer for Timor Leste to separate from Indonesia, because australia eyeing oil and Gas at the Timor sea ( border with australia). Australia get all the benefit now, but give little to none to Timor. Indonesia invested heavily in Timor to get people heart during the occupation periods, and now day even separate still helping by the largest investor in Timor.
