Thank you Julian. Love the session band rhythm, really helps to understand the swing thing :), but don't you think bars 16-17 would sound better without precise rhythm?
Hi Icing Susilo, great question though I think we do need to feel the rhythm very precisely throughout ...and a strong steady pulse too, I'm not hearing any pulling about of the pulse or freedom with the rhythm. BW - Julian
Thank you for this video. I am a piano teacher, but I am less experienced with jazz pieces as I studied mostly classical music, so I always seek any inspiration for playing jazz and swing pieces. You might find this interesting that with the rhythm in jazz, if I let the student just feel longer, shorter notes and rests in phrases without counting, they manage it within the time, naturally without strict counting. I would even say that going strict with beats sometimes take out that original jazz spirit which is actually characterised by improvisation and syncopation. But there must be a natural feel (and necessary playing level) for it, so I get the point of necessity to feel the beats emphasised at the start. I just love your video and the pedal idea at the end, and I will definitely use it with my student.

Thx Reva. Feeling the pulse is certainly essential. I'm sure she'll get the hang of it.
Wish I can play like that
Thx Catherine - I'm sure you will!😀
