This is probably the finest fallen flag railroad documentary I have ever viewed from the standpoint of content, editing, visual effects and as well as, and especially for, its narration by the creator.

This railway was way ahead of it's time. Sad that it's gone forever.

Fantastic films, really. Thank you, from an old NP fan, yet with Milw in my thoughts (and photos too, as they had trackage rights over the NP's Skally, in mid-central MN where I grew up in the '50s.)

If they'd had better management post-WWII it's amazing to think what the Milwaukee might have accomplished and/or built.

The increased traffic on the Pacific Extension was not a windfall for the MLWK. It wasn't really *new* traffic either. The problem with the traffic was that most, if not nearly all of it, was just toss off business from the BN. BN, trying to keep their own mains fluid, was using the MLWK as place to dump all their unwanted customers.

It was traffic from SP. SP, got mad at BN, for shifting interchange from Portland, to the BN/WP interchange at Bieber, CA.

The bankruptcy was declared in '77, the PCE survived until March, 1980.

The Milwaukee didn’t protest the BN merger because their “shrewd” attorney thought he could have the Milwaukee forced into in all the merged lines with a 5-year addendum clause attached to the merger agreement; similar to the Penn Central being forced to absorb the bankrupt New Haven. It didn’t work, and the Milwaukee was left only with some meager concessions such as additional traffic handed to the Milwaukee instead of BN at Seattle. The equivalent of giving a single peanut to a hungry elephant.

5:00, EMD F45 Cowl Unit Diesel.
I like the look of Cowl Freight Units.
Anyways, the NO.1 Reason why the Milwaukee Road failed was because of its Horrible Management.
The managers were incompetent and made poor choices, which ultimately lead to the end of the Milwaukee Road.
Lastly, I really like those Milwaukee Road electrics. Especially the Box Cabs.
