The "do nothing volley" is also the ONLY volley you will ever need. If the incoming shot is slower or floating, you execute the "do nothing volley" and move forward. Your body weight going forward in combination with the "do nothing volley" will give your volley enough bite to get by your opponent(s). Another phenomenon that happens when you are trying to execute the "do nothing volley" and your opponent's shot is slow or floating is you will naturally have a little more push forward with the hand adding pace. I have heard many visualizations or tips for this type of volley. Oscar Wegner said "simply take your strings to the ball and catch the ball" with no take back and no swing forward. I use a visualization where I try to keep my strings facing the target line after contact. I have seen Tony Roche on a coaching video where he said "I want you to do this drill. When you make contact with your backhand volley, stop the racket head" and then he said "now, do this drill for the next 10 years of playing". Basically, Tony was teaching the do nothing volley.
I used to do just this when I was a kid, long before I had any coaching, and guess what? Everyone said my volleys were great. Thanks for reminding me about that.

Well said! Thanks for watching and the feedback

Love it! Thanks for watching
That explains why even having a hard ball I usually struggle facing some old guys that just make this neutral volley! Excellent enlightenment!
Glad you liked it!
Great lesson Nate. Happy new year to you guys.
Happy new year my friend!
1:21 honestly, teach me how to do this consistently. Half decent players will get your weak volleys
Would like to see you actually do the volley with a ball machine or partner :)
