Getting surgery sucks and complications suck worse. But knowing you're okay/healthy and what you can do to keep yourself that way is reassuring. I remember when I got surgery and had to stay in the hospital for months. It was really exhausting, but I'm glad I'm alive. I'm glad I can see those who love me and give them a hug.
