    Thank you. Not easy to remove 2 overhead console clips. I installed "Partsam 20Pcs 4.7mm-12v Car White Mini Bulbs Lamps Indicator Cluster Speedometer Backlight Lighting" either blue or white. These are easy to solder and show positive and negative marking on top and bottom. I installed white LED 6000k to match with other LEDs in my car.

    holy crap dude, Ive been tempted to pull mine apart to fix it but now I think we can just live without a trip computer at night.

      although I just had an idea, instead of risking the heat from the soldering iron, which I WILL screw up, couldn't you drill a tiny hole in that plastic casing and run wiring for a bulb in there and tap into an ignition on wire somewhere or something like that?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 лет назад

      there is an opening in the one side...you could solder from the back and poke the led in through the side opening

    I have been binge watching your content. i have an ml430 i love it. thanks for all the videos i had the same problem with my glove box and was able to fix the hinge by using a drill bit with the same diameter.

      I was finally able to complete this upper console back light led project. At first I failed, trying to rob a few led diodes from my harbor freight free gift flash light and it worked.... For about 3 seconds then they burned out and I saw smoke. Second I tried robbing an led from a computer battery backup and the light worked but caused the LCD display to stop working. After realizing that the diodes were the wrong voltage and you cannot use them without a resistor ( I think) I set the project aside for a day or until I could figure it out. It was my first time soldering by the way and I melted a little plastic but nothing that shows. Today I was going through my parts bin and I found this led lighting strip for my boat trailer . I could clearly see the little resistors in line with the LEDs and I could cut it to the length I wanted which ended up being 3 LEDs and one resistor. I used a multimeter to determine the voltage coming from the upper console computer and it measured right around 11 volts so I assumed it was a 12 volt connection and therefore 12 volt trailer LEDs should work. I needed to know which wire went to which pad on the board so I just plugged the guts of the computer in and touched my positive and negative wires to the pads on the board where the old lights were soldered until I learned which side was power and which side was ground. The black wire ended up being closest to the side with the little black speaker circle thing.after my other soldering fails I only had one more set of good connections on my upper console computer board so this worked out perfect. I soldered the wires to the pads left on the computer board and BAM bright green LEDs working great. Thank you so much for your videos they are inspiring me to further greatness. If anyone is wondering you should be able to pick up a little RGB lighting strip at your local parts store that is 12 volt and should work perfect for this project. You can cut it to length and probably pick your color. Then you only need to solder to one pad instead of 2 or 3. FUPABOX you are the man once again and I'm saying hi and thanks all the way from St. Augustine Florida . Now I need to put all this back together lol.

    Omg jas there ever in the history of motor cars, been a more awkward bulb to get to. The one in my ML55 has been out since I bought the car 6 years ago. I think I will leave it now having seen this! Great video but I will destroy something big time if I attempt it!

    Yeah when those trim pieces /covers let loose, look out ! Then you gotta become a surgeon to release those micro wire connectors.
    Thanks for showing us what's required to open 'er up.

    Great job! Question. I notice when you soldered in the LEDs that you have used a resister or something. Could you explain this part for us novices?
    Thanks

    I am sure we all appreciate the effort to make the vid and it is ok even using the phone but the voice level when explaining every thing is very hard to hear. That makes it difficult to concentrate on the film and also to concentrate on trying to hear your explanations. All being said, thanks for making it.

    Previous owner must have taken the LCD display out in an attempt to repair since the LED's are also gone. Any way to replace the LCD display or part number for a search ? Thank you!

      only available from dealer as a complete unit . I've gotten just the display from wrecking yard 2x for MLs for co-workers. just unscrews from the rest of the assembly

    If the circuit is in series how did you left DS2 with no light at all and DS3 worked , thanks for replying me.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  3 года назад +1

      not sure that they are in series . likely designed so the others still work if one burns out ..so parallel

    4/72017Please share what and/or where you found LEDs to work...also it appears you used a resistor. What values are required to get these to work in an automobile 12 volt system?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 лет назад

      I used a common t5 led that I just pulled the plastic base off...they all will have resistors built in.. ant T5 on ebay or amazon will be similar

      Ok Tks.. Yesterday a friend with a micro soldering tool installed 2 LEDS for me. The one on the right using the upside down view you used, doesn't light and the one on the right, not at all. Do you know if the circuit is series or parallel? If in series, did you have to solder a jump for the one in the middle?

    Hello I need your help. I did the job on DS2 I've installed one LED and I left DS3 and DS1with no lights and my glass breakage sensor doesn't work now. Should I install resistors on DS3 and DS1 like you? And what resistor value should I use? Thank you

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  3 года назад +1

      I doubt the glass sensor shares power with the lighting in that circuit, but it might . Possibly the connection for it needs resoldering, as many electrical components from the late 1990s early 2000s had issues with solder developing micro cracks , If you try for the 2 side LEDs on DS1 and 3 I would use approx 400 OHM resistor . The little LEDs I used had them attached already so I kept them to keep the bulbs less bright . They aren't necessary though

      the bulbs i put in are just 12v led with a resistor built in ... not sure what the OHM resistance would be on the led
