Symmetra and Lifeweaver Overwatch lore hype! What did you enjoy most from this story? :) Let me know below - more Heroes Ascendant Overwatch short stories to come! Also - how's the length of these videos, too long, too short? Let me know how they feel for you! :) -Hammeh
I really like this story portrayal of Symmetra’s actual capabilities in combat, we know she had proper training yet people kept thinking she’s incapable of on field combat and is only around to create deployables. You get descriptions of her dodging attacks mid weaving her hard light constructs. You see that she doesn’t mind running, parkouring, tumbling on the ground to properly fight. You see that she’s not only elegant and creative in the way she fights, she’s also very attentive on details even in mid combat; like the one instance where a charging null sector bot’s reflective armor was how she spotted there was an omnic behind her and shot the null sector bot before it can reach the omnic. She’s just pure badass elegant in combat if we ever see her animated outside of gameplay
thanks for stopping by firstly! it's a very nice portrayal of sym, lifeweaver, and hard light/bio light/vishkar/bhatt tech as well. She's very kata-style dancing in combat. Symmetra in a short would be awesome!
I have always wonder what the inspiration was for the Cobra skin she has and after reading this story, I sort of wonder if it is her own black ops/spy uniform that OW would have in PvE encountered her in as she follows up on investigating Vishkar...
I think the palette is really nice on that one. My alt account that I've not been on in ages is called Microwave...🤣 Symmetra still one of my favourite brain off characters
@Hammeh Hahahhaha! Oh I long for the days of her old attaching beam!! I still like to play her but I'm a support main (LW/Mercy) so I am suffering in the current meta! But I do have my moments
@@somerandomguy7325 He's being hunted by Vishkar, responding to the null sector attacks with his biolight, and providing omnic refuge in the acrology. He definitely is more relevant than actually disconnected heroes like Illari or Juno. At least he operates in the context of factions and conflicts that have already been estbalished.
Understood squid! What are you playing nowadays out of curiosity? :) It's nice to see a rounding off of a character arc! Satya has grown a lot in her media!
@@Hammeh I've really been enjoying the Hades 2 alpha. Though it's crazy they consider it in alpha. It's practically a full game. Also been replaying a lot of Metroid, and I can't stop going back to Stardew Valley.
I love the symmetra character development arc from her first comic to this short story, I just wished that her relationship with life weaver was better explored to feel a little more realistic, I struggled to believe that most of the conflict of this narrative was an adult woman suffering from a lost childhood friend that was most of his life away from her.
Thanks for sharing Joao! I get where you're coming from - have you read the story? There is a bit more in terms of Satya somewhat relying on him at the Academy in various ways. Sanjay has also told her a few lies and who knows what else about why Bua left. So there are other factors in the conflict, however, it has been 11 years...
@Hammeh I read it the same week it was released. I definitely forgot some of the plot points, but the general feeling of disappointment over what their relationship could have been was the first thing in my memory thinking about this story. Maybe I'm being too cynical about it. Maybe my expectations were different, but I generally wished that their bond was stronger and developed better to justify this specific intensity of this conflict.... Or maybe I just wanted them to kiss, who knows...
I really appreciate this story going into Satya's autism explicitly and how it impacts her daily life. As someone on the spectrum myself, I could understand that Bua was Satya's special person, not that it's romantic, but as an autistic person it's common to make a really deep bond with certain people in your life. Satya feeling safe enough to stim in front of Bua? 😢 my heart... we know Satya was an orphan so it really felt like the book hinted that Bua was a budding found family for Satya that was stripped away from due to circumstance. iirc Declassified stated Vishkar trained architects with a 5 year post graduate work contract, however rich families that paid the tuition did not have to abide by the 5 year contract. I think that's why Satya stuck with Vishkar but Bua felt very (rightly) entitled to his own work so he left Vishkar. I hope one day Satya can join Bua with the Collective 🙏
Thanks for sharing flora! i don't profess to be any kind of expert in that field, just from people I have talked to/little reading, it's great to hear people's takes who can relate more! It's honestly one of the most consistent threads/storytelling things they have done and also development of a character in all facets of her mainly (Satya) so I really enjoy seeing Satya's story and world progressing for her! If anyone can get Vishkar moving in slightly different ways it's Satya, but let's not forget the Bhatt secret/whatever caused Vishkar to stray away from his vision, and Sanjay's potential involvement with Talon - if it's sanjay at the talon table at the end of the Masquerade comic! Not confirmed of course. She has a lot of journey to travel!
Haha, sorry! Should have shortened it in the edit. I've been playing a bit more Overwatch (mostly casual) recently, think I have a thoughts on the game's state in 2024 vid in me someplace. It still is very unique!
@@Hammeh No Worries. Your Content is good quality and I truly have no criticisms against it. I am just a bitter Sym main who likes to poke fun at OW2 whenever the opportunity presents itself and saw a moment I had at the spawn wondering if I should pick a new main.
Sym to be fair, has had quite a bit - two stories and a comic now. I would totally love to see her in something animated though in future for sure as well - maybe that won't be in-game anymore, but we will see!
Lol i find really funny that they called a material "durovidro". Translated from Portuguese, it literally means hard glass (although "vidro duro" would be the correct way of writing it).
Thanks for the share melon! Guessing they checked in with some people plus creative license, I guess Duovidro is more of a brand/trademark/product type name. Then the rules (or lack of) of marketing kick in...:D
hahaha, well, lore wise, we eat! Gameplay wise - I struggle with Lifeweaver but maybe I need to learn him more. Sym is still fun! Equally, I've been casual OW for a while, so will have a little experiment and see if comp is for me agaein.
While it's nice to see characterisations of autistic people in media, I think some of the language around neurodiversity is changing. As a neurodiverse person with neurodiverse family, it's important to think of these traits outside of the ableist norms we've viewed them with for a long time. In particular, referring to traits as something one might 'struggle' with, I find challenging. Yes these traits and suppressing them/moderating them is challenging, the idea of someone's existence being a struggle is born of neurotypical norms. I think it's better just to think of them being someone's experience, and accept that.
I don't think the intention is to portray neurodivergence as an inherent struggle. Rather, it's a struggle in the context of a neurotypical society. Such a society that is built to accomodate only neurotypical people, making it difficult to exist as someone outside of that accommodated norm. The story explicitly portrays it this way when Niran describes the omnic residential space as built with omnic needs in mind (as opposed to the usual human-centered approach), and Symmetra likens the experience to the her autism. Have you read the theory of the social model of disability? You may enjoy it. It essentially acknowledges that while some disbailities involve physical/neural impairments, the disabled status itself only exists because society doesn't take those impairments into consideration.
You're welcome, I figure they are releasing them monthly, so I could have done this earlier - my bad. That said, nice that if people are patient, they can read most of (maybe all?) the stories free, without having to buy the book!
Kind of wish they just put Lifeweaver in Oasis. I don’t think we need another free-science haven in the universe and I think it would make Lifeweaver’s story more interesting if he was there instead. This very pure and well meaning guy who only wishes to use science for the good of the world having to seek refuge in a place that revolves around pushing science too far or using it for nefarious ends, whether he’s aware of that or not.
I don’t think that would have worked due to the fact that he left Vishkar because he didn’t agree with their stances. So based on his character he would not stand for what they do in Oasis either, considering his main motivation is to help others.
Thanks for sharing egg! Oasis has been around for so long, before the Arcology, which is only a very recent introduction it feels like. Does set up this 'good' vs 'bad' science dynamic which will be interesting to play out. Oasis has been pointed to by Sombra as where Soldier 76 should head next, so, maybe it's all tying together...let's see!
@@joshuacollins9316 I was thinking, perhaps, he could be unaware of how they use science there, but than again it probably wouldn’t take him long to find out the truth.
