Lovely to hear that Rick finally gained some self confidence towards the end. Wish he had been able to enjoy himself as much as he did through out all of their career.
He's completely right. I'm so glad he believes it couldn't and shouldn't be played again, even though I'm heartbroken I'll never see it live. 💙 I'm so glad Rick had such a good time toward the end of his life.
Echoes was the first ever Pink FloydTrack I ever heard. It was 1972 ( I was11) and a friend of my elder brother brought it over. Initially I was bored but then it got into the ‘rock section’ with Roger’s rhythmic bass David’s amazing guitar solo accompanied by Rick’s terrific Hammond organ playing. From then on I was hooked and my musical tastes were set for evermore with the band becoming my favourite of all time.
First of all, the Gdansk concert is one of a lifetime. I watch and listen to that one all the time! It is just amazing. I admit that my fave always will be (live or otherwise) Shine on You Crazy Diamond and funnily enough, Take a Breath Live on Jools Holland. Thank you for many decades of outstanding music and interviews and I am so psyched for Sept for Luck and Strange!
Echoes at Gdańsk was a brilliant multilayered masterpiece of magical musical artistry and aural atmosphere that thrills my soul to the core every time I watch/hear it. There is and never will be anything again like Echoes. That’s a very special work of art indeed.
Echoes is my favorite Pink Floyd song, too David!! Since I first heard it on my 8 track in 1976, I have gone thru the Meddle album, CD and mp3. Meddle Echoes, (1972) Pompeii Echoes and Gdansk Echoes. In that order. Long Live The Pink Floyd...
That is interesting. When PF toured in 1987 they started off the tour playing Echoes and then stopped. I recall an article where he said that he wasn't comfortable with singing the lyrics. Unfortunately, I missed the 2006 tour and was never able to hear it live.
Yes Echoes is fantastic - after that they were more like we know them now. Some great song, always sublime on guitar, and keyboards, lots n lots n lots of prog plod - which lots of bands did better, and, which lots of people liked cause - see points 2 and 3. way back then I played Meddle non-stop, Dark Side quite a bit, Wish sometimes, though, loved shine on, and then lost all interest, though the wall was always playing somewhere and had something enduring. Syd was a genius too. It is hard not to admire David Gilmore as a player, performer, and - from the outside - a man of great character and taste
I would say it was and has always been one of my favorite songs ( Echoes ). I feel it’s what defined them as a progression group. The Beatles were good at pop, but at that time Pink Floyd was going a different direction.
Say what you want about the music of Echoes, but the lyrics are equally sublime, so that first Pompeii video with the whole band is what sets it apart. You can bring in other people, but other people never play quite the same as the originators. That said, I can understand why thats not his favourite memories.
Good evening David. You are right when u say that without Rick, there is no more dialogue, but i think that if Rick look at u from heaven, he would be happy to see u playing Echoes with Jon Carin ou Greg Phillinganes. Rick is dead, this is really sad, but if u dt play Echoes anymore, this incredible song will die too....
@@playboi1123 i mean that when a song is played live, it lives. Of course its a incredible song, but i hope that David will give it live again soon. In on of his concert Joe Bonamassa played with the guitar of Rory Gallagher. This guitar need to live too, to feel usefull and alive, instead of being closed in its case for ever. Concert make things live, at my opinion.
Totally agree. My favorite too by far. Meddle signifies a turning point. After Meddle - complete dominance of Roger Waters. And to be honest, I think they should called it quits after The Dark Side of the Moon. Well definitely after Wish You Were Here.
Nick Masons Saucer full of secrets play a great live version of Echoes. Probably the nearest you'll get to the original Pink floyd one on stage. Unless Dave gets up again but like he states here he won't play it again with respect to Rick . Roger can't do Echoes live, music too complicated.
Rick wasn't a virtuoso...but listening to PF it's incredible he came up with what he did considering his famed lack of confidence. Doesnt get anywhere enough credit.
@@ernestokrapf Don't you know, if you're not the "best" (based on ?) player of any given instrument in the entire world, you're not a virtuoso. There is only ever one virtuoso of any instrument at a time.
I agree with Dave, that version of Echoes at Gdansk, will stay with us forever.
Royal Albert Hall
@@youreverydaysaltyiowastate5602 The one after that, with Rick in Poland.
Probably the greatest version of the greatest song.
Echoes live at Pompeii, is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard.
Totally agree, the vocals are just gorgeous and so are the guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, all perfect
Studio and Gdansk are so much better than the overrated Pompeii.
@@nectarinedreams7208 I feel like Davids guitar play is better in Gdansk, but Masons drums is what really does it for me on Pompeii
Lovely to hear that Rick finally gained some self confidence towards the end. Wish he had been able to enjoy himself as much as he did through out all of their career.
Me too, Dave. Such an incredible sonic poem, Echoes!

Ooooh who doesn't love echoes
To listen and to play both of them are amazing

Echoes takes me to a place that part of me never wants to leave. The ultimate trip…
Venezia, Piazza San Marco, 11 agosto 2006. Quella Echoes con Rick Wright fu la perla di un concerto incredibile, tra i miei primi tre in assoluto.
I’d love to have a conversation with this man, just him reminiscing about the past
Echoes is also my favorite song
Agree...performance in Gdansk it was one of the best moment in my life...

Echoes is one of humanity greatest achievement. Sound and lyrics perfection.
Echoes live in gdansk 2006 is one of the wonderful version with rick wright. Now it wouldn't be the same without rick wright

Echoes è un capolavoro.... Non penso ci sia di meglio musicalmente parlando...
Romany e' bellissima!! Peccato che non ha seguito le orme del Papà!!❤❤❤❤

I LOVE ROGER WATERS

Love the song!!! Could have been shorter length though

Nothing like asking a question then turning away whyile you are given an answer.
Echoes....minha música de todos os tempos...David sente falta de Rick..que vazio ficou..
Echoes guitar solo for me is the best guitar solo of all times.

Well, definitely after Animals.....which they essentially did.
Definitely after Animals. I just wish Roger hadn't gone all authoritarian on the other guys, especially Richard.
also for meeeee
"Strangers passing in the street,
By chance, two separate glances meet,
And I am you,
And what I see is me." - Roger Waters, from Echoes
why couldn't you write it ? why roger was so good witting these.....
Meddle's version is the best 🔥❤

?????
Rick was virtuoso, he literally had classical training and knew a lot of jazz
he just had low self-esteem, that's all
@KRAPF just because you've had training doesn't make you a virtuoso haha. Listen to Kieth Jarret..thats a virtuoso!

Why can't I watch a single bit of Gilmour footage or song without Yoko Bloody Ono smearing her presence there ALL THE TIME? BUGGER OFF!
$15 to watch the end of the dark side of the moon ... would any one watch ??
This couldn't be more middle class if they'd filmed it in the world food aisle in Waitrose.
