Been making art my whole life and I STILL don't have a set style, I morph between 3-4 different ones! Thanks for the inspiration - sending a sub your way
man you're such an inspiration for me...I started painting beacause of your videos and i have to say you are the one that has me keep going (sorry for my english)
Really?!?! Wow, THANK YOU SO MUCH, I am so happy to hear that I inspired you to paint! :) I hope you have lots of fun painting and creating your own art!
Okay. One day later and I did this. But for watercolor I used 'freestyle' cuz i wouldn't risk that my paper gets wavy. I totally failed at hatching but yeah 😂
Hi ! How are you illustrating so well? Initially do you refer pictures and draw and then build your own style? Can you please tell be how to get better at illustrations?
Thank you so much!! :) I am in no way a professional at this, so take my advice with a grain of salt ;). I usually look at photo references or real live references (which I prefer to photos). And then I think about different ways to depict what I see. I think the best way to get better is to just pick a motive (like shrimp sushi), find a reference image or the real life thing and then draw it again and again, trying different materials and different ways of looking at your subject. Maybe just look at the colors or the lighting or what it reminds you of. That is what I did in this exercise - I just looked at a photo of shrimp sushi and focused on the general shape for one illustration, on the way light and shade looked in the photo for another illustration, on what it reminded me of (a cute sushi monster with a bandana on its head) for another and so on :). I hope this answer was in any way helpful! :) I am sorry, I find it really hard to explain, but I think that was my process for this exercise :)
This answer is SO helpful! I've been struggling for years, wanting to learn illustration because my drawings always turn out very photorealistic. I can't wait to use your advice next time I attempt more illustrative drawing.
I am actually vegetarian (currently going vegan) myself. But I don't really have a problem with illustrating animal products. I am sorry that this video put you off, I understand that seeing illustrations of non-vegan food is quite disgusting.
palestblue haha! no don't worry about it! I just thought it was ironic and conflicting so I thought it'd be funny! 😂 I'm in the process of going vegan, and if I was that disgusted, I wouldn't click on the video! But anyways, you're really talented and great video!!! 😄👍👌
I really like bold contrasting art, I'm still a beginner at drawing and don't really have a distinct art style but I'm definitely trying to get to a bold contrast style.
I always do hatching but not because I thought it looked cool, it just comes naturally somehow... I do it all the time so I just draw lines really quickly now
I will really like to see more vids like this, just u explaining how n why... i love watercolors and doodles but i am very bad at it... use it for my travelers notebook and im learning more from vids, but i like ur style and ur notebooks and also love ur talent for this. Hope to see more soon!! Xo marce. Tfs
I was wondering if you could create a food or a beauty stamp set because I would definitely buy them! I love your art style and can't seem to find what I'm looking for
It is a cheap sketchbook I found at the German store "Nanunana", it is their own brand. I don't think they make these anymore, which is too bad because the paper was indeed very smooth :)
I've been trying some watercolor recently but my favorite style is definitely Bold Constrast. Most os my drawings are painted that way; colors are beautiful but nothing pleases me more than that solid black! lol Loved your video. Subscribing
i think my style is pencil and shading only. I personally suck so hard at watercolour and colour of any kind, really, but I am pretty good at shading and pencil art.
That sounds wonderful! I really wish I was a little better at shading and drawing with pencil! Do you have any good books or tutorial videos on sketching/shading with pencil that you could recommend?
How do I STOP doing the hatching? My technique is probably messed up but I always do it... I can't just do the out-line one even though I'd love to, or the watercolor one (seems really difficult) I can't help but draw lots of lines and end up hatching everything lol
Hi, I really missed that you did not explain what the different techniques are exactly . For an example what is bold contrast, or what is hatching and so on. Other then that i did enjoy your video alot ,ty .
Difference between microns and normal ink sharp pens: The smudging. If you work with a micron above pencil and start erasing that pencil away, you won't smudge the ink. The only risk with both tools is that it gets washed out if you go too rough 'like I do lel)
Im new, just found you out today, (You're so cool!) and are you originally Dutch? Or something else? Or, you originally speak English and you are bilingual?
GracieTheAwkwardTurtle well i thought she were german 'cause i am from germany and in her calender very much is in german but dutch is very simular to german so i don't know 😅 sorry for my bad english i hope you understand it 😅🙈
I'm currently trying to find my illustration style and i love doing watercolor illustrations with the outlines but i like also how they look without tracing the outlines and i dont know which one i like best, or if i should decide or not, anyone had the same problem? What should i do? (I dont speak english very well, sorry if said something wrong)
I agree, maybe you could do both, just alternate and after a while you may like one of them better (or you can just decide which of those styles suits each indiviual piece best and decide from piece to piece)? :)
These are not really "styles" but are more techniques. I realize that technique makes up a good bit of style, but you can use these particular techniques in a variety of different styles.
Hatching is really fun, but there's an art to how much hatching one should apply. Too much and it looks boring, to little and it's sketchy. Yours was a bit overdone to my linking, but enjoyed this video immensely.
That's true! It obviously depends on the lighting situation you want to go for in your drawing, I think it is especially hard to use hatching to draw very dimly lit things. Thank you so much for watching :)
Okay, to any artist in here, I have a technical question that's been in my head for literally two years since I've started painting. What happens to old brushes? Cause I tried every technique to make them as new as possible again, but it's already too late. I have to change them monthly and I think there must be a way to make them last a little longer. Any advice, even your personal experiencie will help me! Thanks!
If there is paint stuck in them, there is a special oil to clean it, don't let the paint get more than halfway up the bristles and for wooden brushes, don't leave them in water for too long.
My art style is weird, it is a cross between cute and hatching lol. I like to draw cute things but then make it kind of gloomy by hatching, it's weird i know lol.
WARNING: If your going to art school and have a critique on a students work, NEVER SAY, "I like your STYLE". The Professors will KILL you, saying that you don't have a style.

Ah yes, I think technically hatching would also be considered more of a technique than a style. Style and technique are not unrelated of course, but also not the same. Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback!
Is it weird that Im vegetarian, never had seafood in my life (but used to eat other meat), and think sushi is cute? XD Idk like, I eat vegan sushi cause I really think sushi is adorable. .3.
Hatching takes so much practice! I think it looks so easy when someone is really good at it, but the amount of time and effort it takes to learn how to do it properly is mind boggling!

I totally get it, I have been practicing my hatching for about a year now and I still mess up so OFTEN!!
Now I'm craving for sushi 🍣
Haha me too :D

Awe! Look how cute and happy that little lump of rice is with a dead creature laying on top if itself!!!
I am actually vegetarian (currently going vegan) myself. But I don't really have a problem with illustrating animal products. I am sorry that this video put you off, I understand that seeing illustrations of non-vegan food is quite disgusting.

And all the best for your vegan journey
I have a feeling I'm about to binge watch all your videos 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
I really like bold contrasting art, I'm still a beginner at drawing and don't really have a distinct art style but I'm definitely trying to get to a bold contrast style.
Very cool! :) I like that style, too, because it really stands out :)
I feel that my favorite style is the last one with water color. But all the others look really cool as well. Hard choice, but super nice video!
Thank you so much! :)
That's the video I am looking for. Please make more videos about finding own style.
thank you so much! :) I will!
I always want to try hatching but always end up losing patience lol
Fun video! Thanks for sharing :))
MyLifeMits I tried it but then I lost control and did too much and um oh man.. It looks shitty af
I totally get it :D It does take lots of patience to do it, I used to feel the same way. But for some reason I am totally addicted to it now haha :D
Yeah it is not so easy to now when to stop hatching!
I always do hatching but not because I thought it looked cool, it just comes naturally somehow... I do it all the time so I just draw lines really quickly now
homboi me too 👍
very beautiful , satisfying , and inspiring , please make more vids like this one , u earned one more subscriber
Thank you so much!!
I think my style is a mixture of cute simplified watercolour. Thanks!
I will really like to see more vids like this, just u explaining how n why... i love watercolors and doodles but i am very bad at it... use it for my travelers notebook and im learning more from vids, but i like ur style and ur notebooks and also love ur talent for this. Thank you so much :)
Hatching is my favorite. Requires quite a bit of time but the end product looks the best imo
I love hatching as well :D
This is amazing! Not only am I super hungry now, but I have the courage to try these styles haha.
Thank you so much :)
I was wondering if you could create a food or a beauty stamp set because I would definitely buy them! I love your art style and can't seem to find what I'm looking for
That is a wonderful idea :) :)

Thank you so much! :) The watercolor one is also my favorite (and what is my "usual" style) :)
So cute!! I like shrimp sushi!!!
Thank you so much!! :)
I do: sometimes hatching or watercolor, but mostly outline only :))
Cute video - loved it :) my style definitely is hatching but I'm working with watercolours like crazy at the moment, I really practice lettering a lot
Thank you so much!! :). Watercolors are so much fun, aren't they?
Pauline Pilz I'm using watercolours A LOT as well! My whole sketchbook it just watercolour it seems
so cute :3 I liked the first and the watercolor one :)
Thank you so much! :) The watercolor one is my "usual" style, so it is my favorite, too :D
palestblue cool :3 yeah I also try to draw and sketch a bit and I prefer watercolor too
So cool :) Watercolor is so much fun, isn't it?
such a joy to watch. thanks for the show :)
Thank you so much! :)
now I want to go shop some "art stuff" and eat sushi :D
love this video! ♡
Haha
i guess i usually draw like the third one, bold contrast
:) I love bold contrastic illustrations, they just stand out anywhere :)
Me too. I especially love it when it's paired with color. Like there are section of bold black areas with bright colors.
What paper/sketchbook are you using the paper looks really nice and smooth
It is a cheap sketchbook I found at the German store "Nanunana", it is their own brand. I don't think they make these anymore, which is too bad because the paper was indeed very smooth :)
Thanks you for the Video~!! I usually find myself doing Style No. 3" a lot^^
aaa these are all so cute! especially the one with a face :3
Thank you so much :)
the watercolor one is closest to my style. mine is maybe a bit less realistic. they all look great!
It is my "usual" style as well :). Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much, this is so inspiring and helpful!! I love your drawings and techniques ^-^
Thank you so much! :)
My favorite is the bold contrast
I love all of them :""")😭💟

Thank you so much!!
This was so cool ! Like !
Thank you so much!!
Loved this so much!
Thank you so much!!
I've been trying some watercolor recently but my favorite style is definitely Bold Constrast. Most os my drawings are painted that way; colors are beautiful but nothing pleases me more than that solid black! lol
Loved your video. Subscribing
Awesome, I totally get it! Thank you so much :)
I draw like all of them. But honestly, I draw more like the 2nd one. But I can still draw just like all the others.
:) Thank you for watching!
this is beautiful
Thank you so much!
Nice drawings!!! I tried this, but the marker fades into the water when I use watercolour... I am using the same marker as you though...
Thank you so much!!
I love it, thanks for this video!
Thank you so much!! :)
i think my style is pencil and shading only. I personally suck so hard at watercolour and colour of any kind, really, but I am pretty good at shading and pencil art.

I'm laughing so hard I'm not sure why, I love this!
Tehe I am happy to hear that this made you laugh :D
I try to do the cute art style but it just looks weird haha
I totally get it, I find that really hard as well!!
This video really inspires me, I hope I finally find my drawing style one day! :)
Thank you so much!
Cute! :) All good! TFS! :)
Thank you so much!! :)
I think I'm more to watercolour! :> ♡♡
How do I STOP doing the hatching? My technique is probably messed up but I always do it... I can't just do the out-line one even though I'd love to, or the watercolor one (seems really difficult) I can't help but draw lots of lines and end up hatching everything lol
Ah yes, I know the problem! I suffer from that, too :D. So I don't have any tips on how to stop :( maybe someone else has a tip for us? :)
Hi, I really missed that you did not explain what the different techniques are exactly . For an example what is bold contrast, or what is hatching and so on. Other then that i did enjoy your video alot ,ty .
What pencil/pen brand are you using? And is that an eraser ball? I find some erasers smear my pen lines 😓
So cute! Now I want to draw sushi lol
Awesome!! :) Drawing sushi is so much fun because it looks so pretty :)
I think that a cross between cute and simplified would look very cool(but without the kawaii face xd)
:D
Love your videos :))
Lovely 😊
Thank you so much :)

Yes, you are right :D
Cute : Add smiley's, Done :)
Haha :D

Awww so cute!

Thank you so much! :)
Thank you so much!
i want to learn all of the ideas 😩
I am sure you can learn all of this if you want to :)
yes i will 😀😁
ich glaube du musst ganz dringend Sushi-Stempel rausbringen... 😁
Haha :D Was für eine wundervolle Idee, dankeschön!! :)
but how did you find these techniques?
i'm sure i'll have fun drawing corpses of fishes
You could always draw vegan sushi :)
Hatching is really fun, but there's an art to how much hatching one should apply. Too much and it looks boring, to little and it's sketchy. Yours was a bit overdone to my linking, but enjoyed this video immensely.

thank you so much! i'll start my search to get that wonderful oil. you saved my brushes!
no problem :) I've heard that Murphy's oil soap works well
Oh, we don't have that in Argentina but I'm sure I'll find a substitute. Thx
I'm most definitely the *"Cute"* style as whenever i do Minecraft builds, or drawings I always add little faces. My brother always gets annoyed.
Haha that is so cool :)
I'm always drawing the outline in the "right" color, like brown hair is drawn with a brown fineliner but not filled out. Is that only me? 😅
That's another really cool way to draw! :)
what's tje title of the song? it's so cute ☺️️ like your videos 💕💕
*the
the cute one looks like a pirate if you stare at it for a long time
:D Yes, you are right, it does!
エビのお寿司ですね!美味しそう♡
My art style is weird, it is a cross between cute and hatching lol. I like to draw cute things but then make it kind of gloomy by hatching, it's weird i know lol.
Oh that sounds so amazing! :) It sounds like a really cool and unique style. I also love your username haha :D
is that a kuru toga pen??
Yes :)
good to know XD
like for using uni kuru toga
:)
Thank you~
My style is the second 😂
:)
I personally don't like sushi but I like the concept of sushi
I only like vegetarian sushi, but I think all sushi looks so pretty :)
7. The one who does not finish the drawing and forgets about it.
Ah yes, that is one of my specialties as well :D
where's the lazy, messy, all over the place option
Ah, I tried, but I am kind of a neat freak and couldn't leave it messy enough :D
Um tbh I kinda thought it was a bug before I read the comments...
Oh that is a sushi.
Yes it is :D
In comment box lot of peoples are saying sushi . What is sushi ?
WARNING: If your going to art school and have a critique on a students work, NEVER SAY, "I like your STYLE". The Professors will KILL you, saying that you don't have a style.
:) Are you in art school? I would have loved to attend art classes
Golly! How fun to watch a dead body being drawn over and over again!
I am actually vegetarian (currently going vegan) myself. But I don't really have a problem with illustrating animal products. I am sorry that this video put you off, I understand that seeing illustrations of non-vegan food is quite disgusting.
Please change the background music, you're so talented that this deserves some good quality songs rather than cliché childish ones, I personally would love to hear your music taste
Why aren't there more videos where people actually talk and explain and tell us about it?
I think it is because many people are scared to speak on camera :). I will definitely film more videos with voice overs as soon as I get a better microphone, because right now the sound quality is abysmal :(
I want sushi :v
:D I hope you got some? :)
I have 2 xD
:)
this is great and all but watercolour isn't an illustration style, more like a medium.
Ah yes, I think technically hatching would also be considered more of a technique than a style. Style and technique are not unrelated of course, but also not the same. I guess I should change the video title to something like "experimenting with different techniques". Which of course can definitely help with developing your style :). Is it weird that Im vegetarian, never had seafood in my life (but used to eat other meat), and think sushi is cute? XD Idk like, I eat vegan sushi cause I really think sushi is adorable. .3.
I feel the same way :). I am also a vegetarian and I have only ever had vegetarian sushi, but sushi looks so pretty!
(When you suck at hatching)

boi she looks like Gerard way
( thats a compliment btw)
Of My Chemical Romance? That is a compliment indeed :) thank you!
