Of course, it is possible that Corolla with bad tyres ("D/E" efficiency) will loose with RAV4 with good tyres ("A" label), but with similar tyres it is not possible.
Listen to them: "we made long trip, including city, highway etc. and we saw better fuel economy". Did you see them? Did you see exactly how did the make a test fuel economy? No, definitely it is not possible to achieve worse fuel economy in corolla cross comparing to RAV4 (apart from much worse tires and much worse weather in corolla cross at the same time)

Thank for sharing this video with us. The quality is always on point. This is my first comment on your channel. Your test of the Yaris hybrid is one the reasons i ordered a Yaris Hybrid (GR Sport Trim) with all options available. Yesterday i got the information that it will delivered in the last week of 2022. But seeing this video im a bit surprised in terms of the consumption. The Corolla Cross is no small car. Its much bigger than the yaris, but according to your tests the Yaris does not consume much less in comparison to the Corolla Cross. I know that die Corolla Cross has the HSD Gen 5 and the Yaris Hybrid hast Gen 4 or 4,5. But does it have that much of an impact? How would you rate the Yaris maybe in a direct comparison driving the route in this video under the same conditions again? Would like to hear your verdict. Cheers
Thank you for your comment! :) Driven routs with Yaris and Corolla Cross are different. Yaris will consume around 3-3,2 l/100 km where Corolla Cross 3,8 l/100 km. Worth to know that Yaris Hybrid was the first car with this hybrid software system, the 5th gen in Corolla Cross has pretty the same software but different battery.

Highway driving on hybrid won't be that good. it will probably use the petrol engine mostly but the electric engine helps a little. Remember that hybrids has better performance for city driving because of the stop and go. If you want better economy on the highway, a plugin or BEV would be a better choice.
Best hybrid mpg is actually not stop and go. Rural roads is best. On my Prius, if I’m driving 55-60 mph on highway, I have better mpg than stop and go. If you stop, you need too much energy to get back to speed. Battery helps, but than again engine will work hard to charge it.
