Since this video just got promoted by Spookydood, i thought I'd add some further thoughts to this that I never added in the video.
    1. The "Core Theory" is LITERALLY the concept that Gaster is attempting to rewrite the ending of Deltarune. Yes, there's more details, elaboration regarding what the Player's role in the story is, etc, but that is the core idea of the theory.
    2. Everything I have said about the Angel representing the 'original author' of the story trying to stop Gaster is mere speculation - yes, it is interesting, and could tie into the theory and give it higher stakes, but it isn’t part of the core theory itself.
    3. In retrospect, I think the theory is a little too charitable to Gaster. He certainly has his own agenda that he wants to carry out.
One last note - as of the time of making this comment, I'm currently in the process of writing the script for my next theory. The theory will be about solving who the Knight is - and I'll be working on the theory with another person. Expect it to come out within the next few months.
Anyhow, thanks for stopping by, i guess.

I agree that Gaster is not going to be evil after all is said and done. One thing that stood out to me in Undertale is how every character or setting that's initially set up as evil or ominous is ultimately subverted to become wholesome in some way: Asgore is initially introduced as an evil king that murders humans only to become king fluffy buns, Undyne is a scary knight cloaked in shadow that chases us around but turns out to be a true hero fighting for justice and rather goofy and funny; the true lab and amalgamates are initially very creepy but they turn out to be monsters in pain that ultimately have a happy ending when they're reunited with their families and everyone welcomes them with open arms.
I believe Gaster and all the ominous stuff that surrounds him will have a similar twist that makes him sympathetic and wholesome in some way too in the end.

I've never understood why most people haven't thought that this could be the case. Although Toby, who likely anticipated this turnaround for the character, may have subverted this idea of Gaster having some bit of levity as we see time and time again our interactions with Gaster are more archaeic and creepy, and so may be pulling the wool over our eyes as Gaster becomes a full villian. However since most people already have this weird view of Gaster, this may have paradoxically made Toby write him back into a goofball to keep us on our toes.
Who knows, all of this is conjecture.

It is good to note that with gasters association with yhe numbers 6, and some of his stats outright being 666, the number of the devil, toby is trying to paint gaster as a devil figure, which would make sense if he were to stand in direct opposition to the angel
What some people dont know, is that toby has done this before. While undertale was in development, one promotional material that read "dont let asgore take your soul" and a shadowy figure with a red trident and horns clearly trying to associate asgore with the devil. Only to subvert it in undertale, where he is portrayed as a tragic but loving character.

The number 6 isn't exactly just 'the number of the devil.' The number 6 is in some ways the Uncanny Valley. While the number 7 represents completion, fullness, and purity, the number 6 represents something that is almost complete, but not quite there. Clouded by sin, and thus, it represents the human condition.

One thing a lot of people seem to know yet overlook is Toby's fondness of JRPGs. Yes, of course he loves them and they have shaped his sense of humor, his interests, and his creations. But do you know one trope JRPGs, and in fact a lot of Japanese games of various genres, love? *Angels being huge malicious bastards*
A title comes into my mind: Shin Megami Tensei. While many angels and angelic/lawful entities are on our side, a lot of them are bosses you end up fighting and their motives are quite evil, I am talking reshaping reality into a realm of eternal bliss when your only option is praising God, aka a world where your choices don't even exist, let alone matter. Hell, in at least one game you end up against the actual Abrahamitic God, and in a lot of games an optional boss is the Demiurge, a cruel not-god that nonetheless rules reality (gnostic beliefs are complicates, ok?).
With all the talk about the Angel's Heaven and the Roaring, which is the end of the world under another name, why are people so convinced the guy with demonic parallels is the bad guy? JRPGs and Japanese games have a lot of examples of demonic characters or characters eith demonic ancestry being the good guys (ever heard of Devil May Cry? One plot twist from the first game is that the demon clone of the protagonist's mother gains a soul and becomes a good person), but the examples of angelic characters being good, while extant, are rarer.
If anything, it seems to me Gaster is more of a callous scientist with good intentions, rather than an evil mastermind.

Great Video! I really enjoy this more virtuous portrayal of Gaster instead of a malicious, creepy one like the fandom portrays him quite often. The theory may be speculative at times but its great nonetheless, good job!
Personally, I believe a fragment of Gaster is trapped in the Depths after being fragmented across time and space, and his goal is to be freed and reconnect with his other fragments to be whole again.
While I don't think he will be malicious or evil, I think Toby may choose a more Machiavellian approach to his goal of reconnection (Killing or purging the world in the Roaring perhaps). And utilizing the meta aspects of the game, using Us/The Player to further his goals without compassion towards the world and its characters, to which we prove him wrong like Toby himself intended. ("There's something more important than reaching the end", Gaster's plan for us being the end and connecting with the world and its characters being the more important thing).

Oh my gosh it's here! I've been waiting for this one for while. The moment that I read the original theory (the doc), it felt like it just worked for the game since not only does it complement my research concluding that Deltarune is likely gonna be a deconstruction of going too deep into fiction, but gaster being used as part of that deconstruction similar to how flowey was used as a way to deconstruct the idea of detaching yourself from a fictional world in Undertale, it felt so compelling to me.
Although there are some parts of this theory that I am a bit iffy on, I am intrigued. I do agree with the idea that the second voice is the original "author" of Deltarune but a bit iffy on them being the angel. I could see the idea of an original "author" and a "fanfic" writer being in opposition with each other, and how it would make for such a climactic metanarrative if done right, plus having to witness all of that stuff within the fiction itself. Gosh I can only imagine how Deltarune could pull that off.

Given the Music Video toby helped with and pushed at us, I think the genuinely believe what works best with Deltarune’s theme of ‘creativity via stories/games/conspiracies/religion impacting your real world’ is straight up that ‘Gaster’ was a character in Dess’s favourite video game, love (slash creativity with a pinch of magic) made his existence “real”, he tried to escape his game to the real world to find her, after several screw ups and worlds is now a Determination Remnant Goop who has done Unspeakable Things by this point in his desperation. He had the (probably Ice-E) conspiracy theory bigfoot monster go get Dess cus it could obey the laws of this reality (due to people thinking it might be literally real) as opposed to him trapped in the AU realm of “That Freaky Locked Bunker We Tell Ghost Stories And Theorise About”, and now Dess is stuck between realms, neither fully real or fictional (metaphor for remembering the dead). Maybe Dess is used specifically because she herself is on that boundary of real or story cus of the whole Santa’s Reindeer thing. The ship name would be Dessaster for god’s sake - as in disaster. Toby’s a fandom nerd, I refuse to believe he’d let that go. Moral of story, creativity is good and positive, but you can’t go too far and let fictional worlds and people (and loves) swallow your life, or leave you unable to tell the difference between fiction and reality.

I know that typer value 2 is used as a general tense moment override for multiple characters, but I still believe that it isn't Gaster that discards the vessel mainly based on how the Japanese translation handles the dialogue in the character creator. Toby is known to have been a major contributor to translating both Undertale and Deltarune into Japanese, so it strikes me as very interesting that the lines using typer 666 use different second-person honorifics from typer 2, as well as typer 666 being written in kanji and katakana while the lines in typer 2 are in kanji and hiragana. This doesn't really prove anything, and if anything, it could be an error on Toby's part when translating the game. But even so, I just get a different vibe from the last couple of lines than I do for the rest of the goner maker segment. I know this is entirely tangential to your theory as a whole, but I just wanted to put a bit of extra evidence out there towards the two voices theory, even if it's still inconclusive. Also, I sourced this particular post on tumblr to get my facts straight, and it likely goes into more detail than I did here, though I do not agree with their conclusion at all. suzyundertale.tumblr.com/post/180226681657/in-the-beginning-of-deltarune-as-you-may-know

Funny enough I've had a similar, but far less developed, theory for a while now. I usually see people talk about Gaster being a villain, but I don't think he is. He's a scientist with little regard for ethical violations, but with good intentions. Thus, I think the prophecy is his hypothesis. If [Three Heroes] during [The Roaring], then [Banish the Angel's Heaven], and we're a new variable added to test this hypothesis. If he ever does appear onscreen, he'll refer to "You" and "Kris" as entirely unrelated entities. Hell, "Your choices don't matter" might be a secondary hypothesis he's testing in tandem. If the universe is deterministic, what happens when you introduce something from outside of the universe?

i find the ideaof the angels heaven to be interesting. If the dark worlds are representative of espacism or fantasy, then perhaps the lesson to be learned is that delving too deeply into fantasy is a bad idea. The darkworlds can help Kris and Suzie and Noel yes, but they can also harm them. If we distract ourselves in fantasy, we ignore the real world, the LIGHT world. and this causes our lives to fall apart. I experienced this first hand in 2021. I used to distract myself with games and movies and food instead of doing the hard work of improving my life IRL. I have banished the Angels Heaven and now live in the LIght.
I don't think this will be the eultamite message of the game however. As The dark worlds DO HELP Kris and others learn more about themselves and help them grow as people in the light worlds. BUT. I think the message will be something like all things in moderation, and that one dark fountain is fine, but too many and the world goes to shit. Distracting yourself with fun and games os good and can be useful, as long as you don't get lost in the fantacy.

While this video gives Gaster a more benevolent interpretation, I could also see a more sinister angle this could go down. Flowey is a completionist gamer taken to it's extreme so maybe Gaster could be a fan taken to their extreme. Someone who isn't just invested but also possessive. In the same way an obsessive fan has no respect for the boundaries or choices of the author maybe Gaster has no respect for the agency of the characters. When he finally manages to overthrow the angel with the player's help, he then goes "this is my world now" and doesn't just stop at changing the ending but also changes the lives of the characters to suit his desires. Not to say that he has to be evil but just that this is another possibility working under the same framework.

Even if we can't access it anymore, it would suck to beat the game 3 times and then never be able to play it again because there's only 3 save files, all of which are taken and can't be deleted.
Maybe if the save is deleted from our files but the narrative implies Gaster is simply taking that file away so we can't reset it and ruin it, thus opening up a free save slot as if we deleted it.

Warning: I got carried away and did a shot Ron of theory crafting, the 3rd paragraph and onwards is all theory I think
Yea but if he was working with dt to find a way out wouldn't there be something to show for it? Alphys is the one who built the dt extractor, so it seems pretty clear and dry that gaster wouldn't have had a way to even get the dt out
And while determination is the only way to make a dark fountain, in the deltarune universe, everyone has determination, from humans to monsters they can all stab the earth to create a dark fountain, also, queen never talked to any lightners, and still knew that determination was the power that created the world, and also knew that all lightners possessed it, and if she knew this right off the bat, for. Gaster he would also just need a simple observation
The stuff about him being shattered across time and space and the line about it being rude to talk to those who are listening seems to imply gaster has some form of omnipotence
From what we see in the goner maker and other gaster related things in deltarune it's possible his omnipotence across time and space allowed him to look into the universe of deltarune, oraybw the universe of deltarune could provide a backstory for gaster instead
Maybe gaster originated from deltarune, and found the creation of dark fountains, and some sort of experimentation with dark fountains lead to a split in the universe or something
Like he made a dark fountain outside, covering the world in darkness, leading to a creation of the world with a much more somber history
Monsters and humans are at war asgores children are both dead, his adopted child was a little sphycopath, alphys horribly mutilated dying people, etc etc
This would explain the "darker darker yet darker" line as he enters the world he made, paralleling his own to find a very litteraly, much darker reality, his next experiment being perhaps a way to fix the world, maybe the barrier is just an exit to somewhere the darkness isnt? Maybe the ending with chara destroying the world is just them using determination to will the world into finally being consumed by the dark, and the return is chara banishing the light with all the power you gained
Simmilarly maybe the need for 7 souls is because of how massive the world is ?
Again I'm gonna emphasize this is just a theory, and I've been theorizing for maybe 30 minutes now, I got quite carried away after I started thinking of what gaster may have done to be in his circumstance, anyways please consider

The part in both this and the doc is not touched on in regards to the secret bosses: The shadow crystals. I don't think it's Gaster speaking to them broke their mind like eldritch knowledge would.(And to a darkner, it /would/ be eldritch knowledge.)
You could maybe get away with that with Jevil, but with Spamton...
Something else 'speaks' to Spamton in the shop, even threatens him from saying too much. That doesn't sound like something Gaster would do. Nor giving the secret bosses shadow crystals.
Add to Spamton being part of the weird route (and thus throwing things off Gaster's intended course) makes me think it isn't Gaster messing with them. Yes, people say the "garbage noise" is "Gaster noises", but that could very well be interference from something, maybe the dark fountain or something related to it.
Let's look at some of Spamton's lines:

    * SPEAKING OF [[Communion]]
    * KRIS, DID YOU KNOW THAT THE KNIGHT...

Spamton’s shadow crystal wasn’t on him originally, it originated from the NEO body.
Also we don’t know what’s going on when Spamton suddenly shuts up about the Knight, but its *very* unlikely that the “strange someone” that contacted them was them as whoever it is had to have been able to talk to them *before* the creation of their respective worlds. Only Gaster would have that capability due to being scattered across time and space, while the Knight is arguably just some Lightner in Hometown.
And to add, we also know that the SBs were contacted by Gaster since Ralsei shares all of the same knowledge as they do. Like Jevil and Seam, Ralsei is aware of future events and what *should* generally happen in the future. Like Spamton, he’s aware of a presence that’s controlling Kris.

alright, aside from correcting the menu error, I've just got to ask one question about the theory itself:
why is Gaster so ominous, then? he is a creepy man, and his followers don't do him any justice, either. "I have a piece of him right now", "It's rude to talk about someone who's listening"... where did the followers even come from, too? according to your theory, I assume they'd be aimless souls that wander through Darkness after the Roaring.
I don't believe Gaster is a completely good guy for even a second due to how he has been portrayed thus far - his intentions might seek for the greater good, but not really caring about the means. I'd speculate that he'd be one to encourage the Snowgrave Route, as it rejects the fantasy that the Dark Worlds offer [as according to your theory, he wants to stop the Roaring] and changes the course of the story.
in UNDERTALE, there is always a sliver of curiosity that guides you toward doing bad things [IE: the No Mercy Run] - what could possibly motivate us to actively seek out another ending? what's happened in the main one that leaves to be desired...?
    either way, that's all.

Yeah, I agree with you. I don't think for a second that he's 100% in the right, and much like the Knight, I think Gaster is definitely an 'the ends justify the means' kind of person, and that what he thinks is best for the world of Deltarune and its characters (not even regarding the subject of Banishing the Angel's Heaven, but in general, everything) might not align with what people want for THEMSELVES.
And, who the fuck knows what Gaster will do after the Angel's Heaven is banished.
As for the Weird Route, I'm thinking of making a video about that in the future after a while, I haven't fully articulated my thoughts on that.

i think his actions in the game will be detrimental to the world, but i think classifying him as "Evil" isn't going to be accurate,
so my theory is he is experimenting with us to see if we can break the game and let him out. and i do have a bit of evidence to hint at this.
first, he specifically calls our arrival to deltarune as an experiment. and specifically tells you your actions don't matter. this is true since within the game constant characters and events kind of show this off, the game has a set story and you are just the wheels pushing the plot...
except its not. by forcing yourself to experience characters with influence with gaster, jevil and spamton, you can directly alter the direction of the story and obtain optional items that seem to have big influence in the game moving forward. by using determination, we found alternate paths that potentially open up a divergence in the story later on.
in chapter two, we take this a step further, and now we have accurate information showing us that although kris' story is set in stone, we can influence our allies to alter the story. just like how we can command characters to attack using our soul, we can control characters to defy the storys direction. snowgrave proves this, and although it doesn't alter the story much ,we have definitely altered the direction by killing off a key character.
gasters experiment imo, is to see if we can break through the rules of the game, and why would he want that? why would he want us to break the rules? and why in deltarune? well, the dark world has ties with gaster, jevil and spamton have both made a connection to him there, so that likely means gaster is likely somewhere in the dark world. it could be a fragment, a alternative version of him, or literally just gaster himself, but SOMEWHERE gaster lives in there. in undertale, his existance is very slightly hinted at, but in deltarune there are ALIVE and healthy characters that know of him.

  • @ToastDemon-
    @ToastDemon- Год назад +2

With all of the connections tying Noelle to the angel, I can't help but think that the angel's heaven is Noelle's ideal world. She's already expressed her feelings that the dark world is much better than the light world (she could use healing magic to save her dad, she can be strong and make new friends etc.) so having the light world become a dark one would essentially be her 'heaven'. It's possible that in a previous timeline, a choice Noelle made brought the roaring and this is the 'prophecy' that Gaster is trying to stop by restarting the timeline (possibly with some ulterior motive).
Gaster may have chosen to connect with us because we're the type of people to break things and mess with timelines. The weird route might be us altering the timeline and stopping the prophecy from happening.

    • @mrperson4542
      @mrperson4542 Год назад

Gaster sought us out because he knows that we got invested in the world of UT. He wanted players who not only had gotten TP (based on Goner Clam’s appearance and dialogue in TP) and also put in the time and effort to seek him out in the game’s files.
Also, why would Gaster want Side B to happen?? He *wants* the Prophecy to happen as it lays out a clear path to the world being saved. Otherwise, why would Ralsei, someone that he has put in place to ensure that things go smoothly, go “wait we were supposed to-“ on side B?

*When the SHADOW is subsumed by LIGHT
    *When the GRAND FOUNTAIN dissappears
    *All will fall into CHAOS
*The COLOSSI will take form from the LIGHT
*And envelop the land in devastation
*The surviving Lightners, crushed by LIGHT
*Will all slowly, one by one, turn to dust
    "

Why would *DR* Gaster be able to manipulate the timelines of his own world? He theoretically should just be a regular dude.
*UT* Gaster is the one who’s associated with all of the Goners (hence the Goner Maker). It was a line from *UT* Gaster’s Entry 17 that appeared on the Deltarune website back then. *UT* Gaster is the one shattered across time and space, meaning that not only would he be able to easily manipulate the timelines of a world that he exists outside of, but also it enables him to communicate with Darkners in DWs that do not exist yet. And both UT and DR’s trademarks are filed under *Royal Sciences LLC., which would be associated with UT* Gaster. Oh, and don’t forget that on Twitter Gaster asks if “we have been looking for him”, which could only be UT Gaster as why would DR Gaster be aware of us?
Also there is no sufficient evidence supporting the notion that a “reverse-roaring” exists. That presumes that the Grand Fountain in the closet was always present when it most definitely was not. If anything, closing all of the fountains would just cause the lives of the Lightners to become worse due to the lack of Fiction in their lives. That’s it.

    • @Quartz512_

@@mrperson4542 I don't think being shattered across time and space would give someone similar power to having the most determination in the underground, and he also shattered across time+space, not alternate universes (tho if DR is just an alternate timeline then it would make sense if some pieces were in it). Also, UT Gaster is *shattered*, and I don't think being shattered is a state where you can have a complex thinking. However, DR Gaster is probably not shattered, therefore, he could theoretically do complex things like creating the vessel.
Also I just feel like a reverse roaring would be nice narratively, but we likely couldn't reach it.
The collosi are just some crap I made up for it to sound closer to the original

@@Quartz512_ If you have watched Andrew Cunningham's videos on what role DT will play in Deltarune and everything we know about Kris' so thus far, you would know that Saving/Loading in DR functions *very* differently than in UT. UT Gaster himself isn't capable of saving/loading, but he is using a Device to manage the timelines. This is actually one of the biggest reasons why it absolutely cannot be DR Gaster, as if he was the one saving and deleting timelines for us, that would literally mean that he is deleting his own world with him in it. UT Gaster, on the other hand, is not bound to the world of DR and would then be in a position to be able to save/load and not be affected.
Also, just because UT Gaster is shattered does not mean that he isn’t capable of critical thinking. He is literally actively listening in on our conversations with the Goners.
Speaking of the Goners, why would they be related to *DR* Gaster? All they do in UT is talk about *UT* Gaster and *his* actions. If DR Gaster was the one making them, why the heck would they fixate on UT Gaster and not him?
Also, how do you know that DR and UT’s worlds aren’t separated by time and space?? The concept of a multiverse is fictional as far as we know so I do not see the reasoning in trying to apply hypothetical logic to a fictional world. And remember that Ralsei learned of the Prophecy through “whispers across time and space”. Looking at all of the evidence, it 100% is UT Gaster we talk to, not DR Gaster.
