The swampy area-- do they have mosquitoes there? The mountain made gravel --cool! That cliff face! Wow!! The road in, carved into the cliff face!!! The clouds hanging on the mountain tops! Everything is beautiful!
The ever-elusive Sigi makes a rare on-camera appearance! 😁 This is on my list for my next ride over. That gorge road puts the French balcony roads to shame. Almost like a blend of the Strada della Forra and the Combe Laval or the old road from Montereale Val Cellina to Barcis.
Fantastic scenery. So Majestic. I'm guessing you must be on a motorbike, because our car is too wide and a little too high for the route you took. But that toll is rediculous in my mind. Autobahn or other private owned motorways in Shenghen we understand. Very grateful for you doing this for us, because we would give this a miss for sure. Watch this video, it is similar to this one: ruclips.net/video/iCMW3Bv0XXA/видео.html. Here Sigi also has to pay toll to enter the valley. That whole valley is owned by the 'Talschaft' (farmer's cooperative), and it is not a public road. I suspect it is the same in the Gasterntal.
I drove this road in an SUV, not much space, but doable. This road was also used by the Swiss Military. I drove this road in the back of military vehicles during my time in the Swiss Army. Tolls are not very common in Switzerland. In Austria, you pay tolls on almost every mountain roads, and they cost more than in Switzerland.

Beautiful! I am visiting in May and would love to take this route if it's open. The road is so narrow, is it one way? What happens if a car is coming the other way? 😬
Impressive. The folding of the rock face on the return from the first hotel is not something to be taken lightly. The power of shifting continental plates. Word of advice? do not loiter when the road is surrounded by small sheep size rocks. Gravity rules and those cliffs have a few elements of there destruction, ice, rain, wind, expansion and contractions, and there are always small earthquakes.
I'm too cheap to ever pay for these "private toll roads". It's not like they don't have to maintain the roads anyways, the toll is just a way to squeeze some extra money out of gullible tourists
@@susangrosshans744 Oh rude, is it? Don't I pay taxes? Isn't a significant portion of these taxes invested in promoting tourism? And don't I frequent the restaurants and hotels there? I feel I'm being double or tripple billed here for one and the same service! Talk about rude! It's getting so you have to pay an entry fee jus to hike in the alps! Even the cable cars accept the Halbtax you know, and maintaining and running them is a LOT more expensive than maintaining a road!

You can drive the road only during the published times.
