I've read somewhere that when you want to calculate fuel consumption and when you want to check engine performance its always recommended to use STW because its excluded from factors that could affect the ship speed. and when you want to calculate for navigation and ETA and collision calculation its always recommended to use SOG as it gives the accurate speed. i wish i knew whether is this correct and if it is, could you explain in more details on why STW is used for those applications
