    As a photographer myself, I really enjoyed hearing his story about actually getting IN to photography....it's always different for everyone, but the "D" in video class was unexpected 🤣😂 I was expecting the "I've been great at it ever since high-school" type story lol really enjoyed this video though. And agree about photographing a fish vs video.....much more difficult to capture a still photo

    Great tips! I’ve tried using a fancy camera, but I don’t have a good understanding of it so I actually take better photos with my iPhone! I wanted to try one of the small macro lenses for iPhone just wasn’t sure if they actually made a difference.

    Hopefully you'll understand what I'm trying to ask when it comes to photographing/videoing smaller fish (eg Tetras, guppies, etc) in a fishtank.
    Obviously the faster, the better eg F/1.4 for light purposes.
    But what about focal length and Minimum Focusing Distance combo?
    Would you recommend something like 20mm with a short MFD or go with something like 85mm but slightly higher MFD, which even though you stand back further might give a more close up photo (if that makes sense).
    Thanks in advance

      I have found that stopping down to have less out-of-focus in the shot helps, even when using a fast lens. As an example, if I am using an f/2.8, I may stop down to f/11 (for video, not photos). For photos I tend to go lower on the f stop and make sure the fish is in focus. As far as focal length, I would suggest trying a few options if you have different lenses. My favorite lens for photos of fish is my 100mm f/2.8. I will also use my 24-70 f/2.8, usually between 50-70mm. I have also used my 35mm f/1.8 for both photo and video B roll.

      @@TazawaTanks Thank you for taking the time to give a comprehensive reply.
      I currently only have one lens - a zoom lens - which has a fairly big MFD which increases as you zoom, so the fish only take up a small portion of the photo.
      Your reply will help when it comes to choosing my next lens. If money was no object I would be buying multiple primes at various focal lengths.
      Thanks again for your reply.

    What kind of dslr lens is best for fish tanks?

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  Год назад +2

      It depends what you are trying to shoot. I use a macro lens (either 2.8 or 1.8) for close detail shots. I also use a CPL to cut glare. Otherwise, I’m usually using my 16-35 f/4, 24-70 f/28, or a 35mm prime.
