A somewhat different subject, but something I remember wondering when the Special Edition originally came out was why they didn't make a deal with the Unofficial Patch team to include their fixes, or something. I mean, yeah you could just nab bug fix mods from the in-game mod browser and the version Bethesda would ship would undoubtedly never be updated, but for anyone who jumps into these games without looking at mods it'd be a hell of a lot better than the rather bare number of fixes (speaking in terms of "included in the .esm/.bsa"-level changes, rather than core engine things) that Special Edition originally shipped with.
@Vargen Fjorton I can't say I'm personally familiar with any drama with the Unofficial Patch teams or their leaders, nor for that matter can I say that I really want to learn more. I meant more in general how come Bethesda didn't do more to try to incorporate fan fixes into the Special Edition, if they weren't going to do it themselves. Wouldn't necessarily have to had been the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, could be any number of bug fix mods at the time. Though, the way you describe it, it could be that they've learned their lesson now, but I guess we'll see whenever Starfield releases.
There was a mod for OG Skyrim that kinda sorta restored it - it didn't restore the original NPCs or the concept of fighting for your freedom, but it did reuse the pit cell and let you fight in matches in it. Unfortunately, the author only ever released it on Steam workshop so it never got ported to Skyrim SE as far as I know.
@@kvant13 Yes! THE FACTION PIT FIGHTER mod, a modder ported the complete mod with travel on SE (also works on my AE 1.6.640) just search for "faction pit fighter"
There is a reason why there are so many Skyrim arena mods, and The Arena in Oblivion was one of the game's highlights. It'd be wonderful if developers had time to implement such amazing locations.
I always loved the Arena in Oblivion, it gave me the feeling of glory whenever I'd cut down my opponent compared to some stinky bandit or daedra. I gotta go back and finish Oblivion, man, Would've loved to see it come back in Skyrim but of well... maybe in the next game
Always interesting to see Skyrim content. Feels like there had to have been a lot of things people wanted to do with it that ultimately didn't make the cut.
Funnily enough, there’s a mod by Arthmoor AKA the Unofficial Patch guy that adds in an arena and a questline alongside it, though surprisingly it’s located in Riften’s sewer network and is considered more of an underground fight club with both rich and poor patrons coming to watch and bet on the fights rather than a lawfully sanctioned gladiatorial competition. I’m honestly just glad somebody decided to give us an arena to fight in since I too missed Oblivion’s arena.
I think its pretty crazy how the beginning scripts work if you place Huki in the world, but when you agree to fight the scripts stop working Its really sad to see something so close to being added but just left because Todd wanted 11.11.11 to be the release
This Dark Brotherhood quest feels more interesting than what we got in a final game! It's a shame the pit didn't make it. P.s. If you want an arena expirience in Skyrim, try Ravengate mod. It adds an underground arena in Riften with plenty of tough npc's to fight. Each has their own character and items. The mod is a bit tough around the edges, but still pretty awesome.
I genuinely wonder how the mass appeal of skyrim would be different if it was released without having so much content scaled back and cut. Did making quests/locations shorter and more straightforward help? Would it be remembered more like the Witcher 3 if the devs had the time and resources to pull everything off? Who knows
It's a shame this never was finished I'd be willing to pay like 15 bucks for this if it was creation Club or just an outright expansion but they moved on from actually working on Skyrim
Ooo, ES content from Triangle! Honestly wouldn't mind seeing you delve into ES 3-5 like you have FO stuff. That'd be another several years of content right there.
Oh man, i’m still learning new things about skyrim. Great video and discovery! This looks like it would’ve been so cool. I wish they’d not have cut it. Maybe in ES6…
Funny how Bethesda been cutting arenas ever since Oblivion. Fallout 3 The Pitt doesn't really count - it was a minor quest, not a proper arena. The Pit in Skyrim, Combat Zone in Fallout 4... Man, even Fallout 76 has an arena, in form of a quest, though.
I played that and the area you say is snow in the arena was a gliched area that could not be fixed and at the time it took to much memory. That is why it was removed.
I guess gladiator fights are a trope they have a thing for, but have historically considered it a non-critical feature worth cutting when the pressure is on. In a way this actually goes all the way back to the very first Elder Scrolls, which was supposed to be a straight-up fantasy gladiator game but ultimately turned into an RPG with no such arenas to fight in (to my recollection anyway).
@@AlchemistOfNirnroot That is true from what I recall, but it's my understanding that it's something they came up with to justify the name they already trademarked and/or was on the boxart they already commissioned from back when the game was focused on gladiatorial combat.
A lot of the scripting was done, but there's still a lot missing. I'm guessing they weren't going to delay the release date and realized there just wasn't time to finish the Pit alongside everything else that still needed work, so they cut it out, covered it up and switched up the Dark Brotherhood questline to make the deadline.
Oh no, it's Skyrim! It won't last. Brothers and sisters are natural enemies! Like Elder Scrolls Fans and Fallout Fans! Or Cyberpunk fans and Fallout Fans! Or Metro Fans and Fallout Fans! Or Obsidian Fans and other Bethesda Fans! Damn Fallout Fans! They ruined Fallout!
You would think after so many re-releases, they would add stuff back in that was cut due to time constraints
