Maleficent didn't actually opt out of Aurora's death. The curse was that on her 16th birthday, Aurora world prick her finger on the spindle and die. The blue fairy changed the curse and made it so that the princess would fall into a deep sleep instead of dying upon pricking her finger.
@@allison3852 well in all the movie of maleficent and movies with maleficent we didn't saw any siblings or mystery siblings of maleficent so i guess no
The main problem is that in the original tale the fairy was forgotten and and got angry. Cursed the princess, and then it all went this way. In the Disney adaption, Maleficent is simply evil and that is why, not invited right from the beginning, but she shows up, nevertheless. See her name, she is purely evil. The live action adaption gives her a magic back story and a reason to hate the king (and even moves perhaps a little bit too far, in my opinion....) This is also close to the tale of Carabosse (the fairy's name in the ballet), which is derived from the tale "Princess Mayblossom". The fairy wants revenge because the king had played a trick on her. Though, in the tale "The White doe" the Fairy of the well helped the Queen to convey the kid and got forgotten, and so she cursed the child in revenge...
in the disney adaptation, I think she cursed the child not only because she’s simply evil, but also the fact that she wasn’t invited in general. She’s a very powerful fairy and not being invited to the christening of the King’s child would be offensive
Disney ws following the Classical Ballet of the Sleeping Beauty, and there she's just evil and arrives in a rat or mice driven carriage crashing the Chrisaning. They dropped the plates, and so did the Disney film, intact the hole fairy can only eat from Gold is taken out completely. And No Malifacent didn't help get the quen pregnant, and the king and queen were not evil at all, unless you are following the original tale, all of these prequels and reamaginings to give villains a better story and history i find quite stupid, and wicked i feel was and is the only one that sorta tears care to be close to the sorcce mitirea at all. I liked Malificent for what it was, didn't see the second one, but i don't count any of that as even close to canon on Disney's Sleeping Beauty and she was a fairy she was the red fairy in the original tale. All this doing videos to hype stuff up is tiring.
@@wwozanewmusical I know the ballet very well, but in the original production(s), Carabosse was never so evil like in the Disney adaption. She was the forgotten, angry fairy (of course, without the plates, as the ballet is following partly Perrault's original story), but also a bit comical as old fairy and typically danced en travestie, by a man dressed up as old woman (similar to Mother Ginger, the stepmother or Widow Simone); and she was even supposed to attend to the wedding. It was only later, when her character got darker and more evil; but some elements, like the battle with the prince, were only introduced later. I agree that the Disney real-life adaptions of Maleficent were too far away from the original Disney movie. There could have been better solutions, just as you say, like in Wicked. This was actually my hope for that....
I've been imagining a scene from Anna's and Kristoff's wedding in which Maleficent, with her wings, appears and thanks Anna for the invitation, Anna replies that Maleficent has a reputation for being unpleasant when crossed and Maleficent sighs and says "I'm never going to live that down."
@EthenAllen .. OR Anna says that she'd heard how hurt she was when she wasn't invited to auroras celebration, and she believes everyone deserves a second chance. Maleficent can then say "How quaint (like in the movie)... you're almost as sweet as aurora herself"
A little fun fact, during the time that the movie takes place, christianings were an open invitation thing, no one could be turned away unless the event was made private. So Maleficent had every right to show up, and had she been treated fairly she would have likely given Aurora a gift just like the other fairies, but alas they were rude to her
The thing is SHE wanted an invitation, if they were open events she wouldn't of been Hostile and the others would have accepted her. However she was upset because she didn't get an invite which lead her to do what she did. So I guess, in a way, both parties were at fault.
It was also considered incredibly rude and disrespectful not to give a fairy an explicit invitation to such an event. In the myths fae are treated with the same respect given to royalty out of fear that, if they felt offended, they'd steal your children and replace them with changelings.
@@brittanylehman5104 A lot cate to ignore the live action films, I am one, I (and others) tend to either stick to the original or the original fairytale, a lot don't like forcing bad backstory onto an already established story.
funny thing is the Grimm brothers who actually were the ones who wrote the actual story this was based off of even acknowledged that Maleficent was a fairy and in that story their were actually 12 fairies counting Maleficent who were going to be invited to the celebration for Aurora however when the king learned from the servant in charge of acquiring the Golden plates for the Fairies that the man who he had bought the plates from only gave him 11 plates which would indicate that the king would have to ask one of the fairies to lower themselves to eat on a normal plate like the other guests they decided that would be far to insulting to said fairy they decided they would have to choose one of the fairies to uninvite not realizing that would actually be even more insulting.
@@MiguelRodriguez-zr7of I know but I have only seen musicals or movie versions of the ones based on the Grimm's version of sleeping beauty if I don't want to count Disney's version which is loosely based on the grimm brothers version if it is based on that version at all.
Actually there is a version of sleeping beauty that is also canon because the story is told everywhere slightly different where the king and queen went to a witch because they struggled to have a child and asked the witch for help. They offered the witch money and stuff like that but the witch asked only for one thing. To be invited to the big celebration of the child being born. But they forgot about her, so in rage the witch showed up and cursed the princess. My country has this version of Sleeping Beauty actually filmed as a part of a movie about 3 bothers who all got fairy tale wifes. It's a legit version of the story. So it isn't as much of a theory but more of "we applied a different canon of this story to the Disney one"
SPOILER IF YOU ARE READING THE DISNEY VILLAIN ORIGIN STORIES BOOKS In the book mistress of all evil: a tale of the dark fairy by Serena Valentino it said that before Maleficent turned fully evil she had a daughter with the help of three powerful witches and the baby was Aurora. Maleficent felt she would never be able to give Aurora what she needed so Aurora was given to the king and queen. It also said that Maleficent put her under the curse to stop her from coming into her magic and turning into a dragon on her 16th birthday just as Maleficent did on hers. I think you can add that into the original if you want or if you choose to look at it as a side story that’s fine also but the book was released by Disney so I personally like to tie them into one another but that’s just me. I do recommend reading the books tho. They give some depth and backstory to the villains so it’s pretty cool. The first book is about the evil queen
First off I just want to say that for me, Sleeping Beauty and the live action Maleficent aren't connected in any way, they're completely different universes or whatever else you want to call them. So, in Sleeping Beauty Maleficent didn't curse Aurora to get back at Stefan for betraying her. I do like the theory that Maleficent somehow helped Leah to conceive, though. One version in particular that I've heard was that Leah was so desperate for a child that she went to see Maleficent behind Stefan's back and made a deal with her. That Maleficent would help her conceive and in return she would be invited to the gathering and would be able to give her own gift to Aurora. Later, Leah brings up the idea to invite Maleficent to Stefan, not telling him that she had made a deal with her, and he turns it down because of who Maleficent is. And this is why Maleficent ends up cursing Aurora because she's angry that Leah went back on their deal. It's also the reason why when Maleficent does show up Stefan is surprised and angry while Leah seems calmer and not really surprised at all. As for Maleficent and Leah being sisters, that one is too much of a stretch for me considering that Maleficent is Fae and Leah isn't (as far as we know). I think it's just a coincidence that the two of them have similar bone structure.
@@tahirhasan1056 Right! The only reason they seemed like they didn't know much in the cartoon is because they switched up their roles for the day. Fauna didn't know how to bake because that was Merryweather's job.
My favorite author, Mercedes Lackey, made a series where the 'bad guys' in fairy tales are employed to teach the important person in that time line a lesson to make them better people/leaders. If you go by those standards the king is not a good person and was in need of something like this to happen to change his behavior. He was given 16 years to change his ways. Sadly, in the story he was unable to do it in that time period.
I don't think you can consider the live-action as linked to the disney animation. I think it's really two separates movies and universes with no connection outside of the basics of the story. I think you're overinterpreting the Queen behavior, she's just a calm personn with not much character. Also, you forgot that the queen is human and Maleficent a fairie so i don't see how they could be related. If the Queen was herself a fairie, she wouldn't have needed the help of Maleficent to magically conceive the child herself. Though, that would explain why it was so hard for the King and her to have a baby if they were of different species. And Disney animation Maleficent did cursed Aurora to die, it wasn't her who changed the death spell to sleep spell.
Exactly, the live action and the animation share no connection besides one being a retelling or a reboot of the other but from another character's POV. The wicked fairy (in some versions called Carabosse) being sister of the Queen is odd since one is human and the other is a fairy, unless they were half sisters, sharing only one parent in common. I know is overthinking as you said but that theory is interesting since it change the dynamic of the story and explain certain things in the Disney version.
Finally someone who understands that the live action can not be count as a back because it ruins the time line of the original . When they started with live action we got disneverse number 2
Another thing is that the women’s faces look similar because it was probably the same artist that drew them and Disney used to reuse art assets to save time.
Have you forgotten that in the film she actually does use the phrase 'pick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel and die.' and it is actually the final gift from the three good fairies that reduce it to sleeping rather than death I understand wanting to think the best of her but I clearly remember from the DVD versions of the film that the word die is specifically used.
I mean I don't mean to make this more confusing but I've recently finished the novel "Mistress of all evil" and it's said that Aurora was actually Malficent's daughter, it gets told near the end of the novel. Basically after Malficent destroys the fairylands due to the three fairies and the Godmother triggering her, the odd sisters who were also witches, kept consistently asking Malficent to live with them so they could take care of her, of course she always declined and eventually to the point where they had actually figured out a spell that could help create someone through somebodyelse's qualities and ask her if she wanted a daughter, of course she says yes and decides to give Aurora her kindness, care and well the good parts about her. However she eventually had to hand over Aurora to her mother Nanny also known as the sister of the fairy godmother because she could feel herself slowly slipping away day by day, and this kinda led to the three fairies not knowing the child actually belonged to Malficent and also led to her cursing Aurora but not to be plain evil but to protect her child. You should read it its a good novel, I don't know if it is but I'm down to accept the headcannon that Aurora might’ve actually been Malficent's daughter.
Hmm, what if... it was ONLY the queen that sought out Maleficent's help conceiving, and the King actually knew nothing about it? I mean, think about it... When Kathrin of Aragon couldn't bare a son, Henry the eighth replaced her... what if the queen was beginning to fear the same type of fate, perhaps there were rumors going around the castle, or the kings advisors were starting to doubt her fertility and encourage the king to dismiss her... this would be a perfect reason for her to sneak out to the forest and seek magical assistance to conceive a child, with perhaps a promise to becoming the child's godmother. Then she snuck back in without the king ever knowing a thing. Perhaps she had written an invitation to the dark fairy, but the king saw it and removed it, without the queen ever knowing, hence why HE was so surprised and furious, while the queen was calm and collected... to her, Maleficent was just running fashionably late.
Actually, Maleficient is sympathetic because if we see through her point of view she was betrayed by the person she most loved and trusted. She loved her wing if we see in Maleficient movie and he (the person she loved) cut her wings. Which made her more sad because he was the one human she trusted ever in her life. Even when the forest creatures told her not to trust any human she trusted them. She could have killed Arora if she wanted but she didn't because in deep in her heart she was still a fairy and she knew that Arora had to done nothing wrong because of her father's wrong doing. When the king entrusted Arora to the three fairies they didn't take good care of her but it was Maleficient who took good care of her when she was hungry and cried. In Maleficient movie there was a scene in which Arora had fallen off a cliff and it was Maleficient who helped her. In the last scene when Maleficient got captured by the king with the iron cage it was Arora who helped her by finding Maleficient's wing which was locked in a glass case by breaking it and when the glass broke the wing flied towards Maleficient and and got attached to her again. The king got furious by how he's daughter was helping Maleficient. There was a last movie scene where the king was falling from a height and Maleficient tried to catch him but he died she could have just watched him die but she didn't because she loved him and she knew that Arora had not gotten her father's love that's why Maleficient is sympathetic. It's just my point of view from the movie because she was a kind hearted fairy who just wanted love but wasn't able to get that love that she yearned for.
In the animated version she actually curses Aurora with death and it is the good fairy maryweather who finds a way around it by changing it to sleep. This is a bit of a stretch and the live action is pretty cut and dry especially when it comes to sequels. I think the original is the only one you can get away with this theory with however I do not believe they are siblings and in the original Maleficent was just evil plain and simple. she wouldn't have helped them produce a child. he one and only motive as it was in the source material pride that had been bruised. She wasn’t given a place at the table and she cursed the the baby just like in the disney version.
It's also possible that the queen disguised herself and sought Maleficent's help in secret without telling the king, and that's why she wasn't surprised to see her, and why Maleficent agreed to help her in the first place, and why she would have been extra angry to learn she had been tricked into helping the King conceive...
Maleficient is actually Aurora's REAL MOTHER. Hence the actresses who played them (e.g. 5 yo Aurora). Maleficient might have made an agreement to hide Aurora's lineage, hoping for Aurora to have a better future. It's unknown if during her birthday ceremony, it was a custody battle or just an act. Maleficient might have secretly guided Aurora, and her adopted family. Notice on how she DID not kill her, but put her to sleep.
I like the idea that Queen Leah and Maleficent are sisters because they look similar, I think what happened was Stefan chose Leah over Maleficent and Maleficent turned to dark magic to get back at her sister by placing a curse on her niece who is Aurora. I bet why Maleficent hates Aurora in the original film because Aurora is a spitting image of Maleficent's sister Leah.
are people actually viewing the live action remakes as cannon? because they aren't. The back story for Maleficent is NOT cannon in any way and is not at all connected to the original story. Its a retelling and its own story separate from that of the animated one. You cant use both movies when trying to come up with motivations and theories for characters because they exist in two separate universes.
I don't think it's really fair to go off face shape when it comes to early Disney films because in the beginning they were really bad with faces and they used the same design for basically everyone I highly doubt they're related
The only thing wrong is Maleficent did say death in the movie, unless she had the knowledge that interrupting the third fairy would prove to make it so that her spell would not be for death but for sleep! If that was her plan than good but otherwise she did say Death.
Or, the animated version the the live action are not really connected. My theory is Maleficent and the queen were close even when she was feared and shunned by the rest of the kingdom. She helped the queen conceive out of love for her, not for the king. The queen wanted her there but was scared of people's reaction. Maleficent felt betrayed by the queen and if you look at the scene she is looking straight at her - no the king. She felt used. The queen looks more sad than scared. That's why she didn't kill Aurora' and the rest of them right there on the spot - she was rightfully angry but still cared for the queen and her child.
King and Queen: Throw Celebration for their new baby "Everyone is invited, open invitation" Also the King and Queen: "Except for that person in particular!"
Actually there’s another theory that you may have missed. The reason the queen was so comfortable with her was because she was her sister-in-law. When Meleficent cursed baby Aurora the King got mad at his sister. The live action is in a different universe if you think about it in the cartoon version the king and queen are still alive and so is the prince’s own father but not his mother where as in the live action Aurora’s parent’s both died and the second live action the prince’s father is dead. So they are both two different universe’s or could be two different time line’s.
The history between Mal and the King is only valid in the live action which was a remake of the animation. So honestly the fact she was uninvited is malicious as a christening of a royal baby is often open to all and with the 3 other fairies having arrived it would be very rude to leave out the most powerful of them. The reasoning is guilt on the part of the man who stole her wings, so taking their child away to become a child of the magic wood is fair compensation if you consider things.
Around 5:30 in the video, you said meleficent opted out of the death and had arura fall to a deep sleep. Let me correct that. In her movie and sleeping beauty, she never opted out of the death curse, the blue fairy altered the curse so the princess would fall to a deep sleep instead of dying. In the meleficent movie, she did attempt to remove the curse with no avail, but never opted out for the deep sleep
Not exactly. In the live action. She never cursed Aurora to die to begin with only to sleep for eternity. It was only after Stephan begged that she added the true loves kiss part.
@@stevenhiggins3055 your technically right. Just looked. However, she says "she shall fall into a sleep like death". This is also technically a death sentence, so both statements from you and I are true.
Maleficent is basically sleeping beauty live action. (I forgot the difference in names between the ones on stage & movies so apologies if I misunderstood)
Like Uniwolf gamer said, the live action Maleficent was basically their version of Sleeping Beauty and since we got two of those movies I doubt we'll get another one. There are already several live action movies for Snow White but I believe Disney is working on one right now as well as The Little Mermaid. The voice actor for Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty was actress Eleanor Audley.
Maleficent does cast to spell for Aurora to die It's after she's left and the three fairies come back and the third one still has her gift left and turns it from dying into sleeping until true loves kiss is given
Actually, Maleficent's curse WAS to kill the princess. BUT, she knew one other fairy still had the power to attenuate her curse with the 3rd gift they were to present. She is much more powerful than the 3 bumbling fairies combined and could have reinstated the strength of her curse, which means that she didn't do it on purpose. And we do see this in the live-action movie where it was actually MALEFICENT who raised Aurora, which, truthfully makes more sense than those 3 bumbling fairies doing it considering the mess that they made out of a simple birthday celebration. It also made more sense that she would be willing to help a sister or family member especially considering how few she had left as she aged. Not quite buying that the queen and Mala are sisters but definitely related, maybe cousins, and yeah it makes sense also that she would be hurt to be excluded when she granted their wish for a child and all the good she had actually done, not so much for them as they are clearly lousy parents and the Descendants movie shows this with Audrey and her grandmother specially, but mainly for the kingdom and for her family member. And yet still didn't do the worse she could have done. She could easily have reached into the crib and killed the baby, she was in fact completely defenseless and undefended or she could have stolen the baby, clearly had years to do it and kill her, but instead protected the child as she grew and made sure her cuse would not be as bad as it could be. He live-action also supports this with the fact that it was MALEFICENT who woke Aurora with a kiss. There's many forms of true love and a mother's love is truly boundless so of course that would work, something that had Aurora's birth mother thought of for a millisecond she would have been able to do right then and there if she truly loved her daughter as Mala clearly did love the girl. There's even some hints of this in the Descendants franchise because Maleficent, while acting all Mistress of Evil, showed a lot of love for her daughter in her own way, like in the song they sang together where Maleficent did comfort her daughter and by giving her the spell book, not so much for her plan to be free considering all they needed was the wand, but more for Mal's own protection while in Auredon where all would hate her for who her mother is
Yea that was the mistake Disney made with the Live Action Adaptation for Maleficent. That she originally cursed Aurora to die and because Merriweather had not given her gift, he Magic was strong enough to change the outcome of the Curse and create a Spellbreaker. I like the whole Sister Theory but it still leaves puzzle pieces that don't fit together.
About the sisters theory, it makes sense if you make them half sisters, sharing one parent. It will explain the similarities and differences, the two of them being raised by different groups.
These two movies have nothing to do with each other considering the scenario. They were both inspired by the original tale, but were made completely different from the tale and from each other. Why are we trying to mix them and make a single story out of them?
You said that Maleficent opted out of having Aurora die, but it was the fairies who had done that. Maleficent had always cursed Aurora to death and the last fairy is the one with her gift to change death to sleep. Everyone says Maleficent was the one who put her to sleep but that isn't true.
If Leah is Maleficient's sister, then why wouldn't she be a fairy too? I think them being cousins is more likely actually not actually immediate family. That way you could have a family without fairies and one with fairies.
Did we forget the fact that Maleficent literally self-proclaimed herself as "Mistress of all Evil". The animation and live action are not coherent in storytelling. They were not meant to follow the same backstory.
First of all, it wasn't Maleficent who changed her mind on Aurora's death, it was Maryweather (the short blue fairy) who changed the original spell to make it sleep instead of death. Go back and watch the movie, and pay attention. Also, they're not sisters. I enjoyed the backstory with Maleficent and King Stephen in the live action, even though those movies ruin a lot of the story. I enjoyed her parts at least.
DON'T call it a prequal! it doesn't deserve to be called that! It's a retelling and a different cannon! I like the theory but there are to many things contrasting between the animated film and the live action film! they are 2 differant to be the same thing It's one thing to do that with Lion king 1 1/2 Because that feels more like Timone was just trying to put his own spin on the whole story and we could tell he was just trying to retell the story from a wackier perspective. however one could easily brush it off as just an exagerated story made up by Timone who tends to be dishonest anyways. But Maleficent is way to differant from the animated film and gives her to much credit. in the animated film it was one of the 3 fairies who had to intervein in THE CURSE BECAUSE the curse WAS INTENDED TO KILL! in the curse from the animated film Maleficent made it clear that when the girl would prick her finger on the spinning wheel she would DIE! and then the little blue fairy girl basicy used her gift to alter the spell and give Aurora a form of hope. So STOP calling it a prequal, because it was never a prequal infact it got it's own sequal that further gives a middle finger to the origanal. seriasly calling that thing a prequal of all things HOW DARE YOU SIR!!! don't even joke about that! what a ridiculous insult to a cult classic!
I like the theory of Maleficent and Leah as sisters, my only point there would be that Maleficent is a fairy and as far as I can see or know, Leah was not. So how would they be sisters. Sleeping beauty was always my favorite Disney movie, my favorite villain Maleficent. I am however now more a fan of the Maleficent movies that explain her background, and how she became the villain in the first place.
Opted out of the death? Excuse me but she did curse Aurora to Die but a gift from the fairy godmother(s) that made it so Aurora would just sleep and wake at true loves kiss.
My guess in the animated movie, is that Maleficent and Lean used to be close friends or possibly lovers. There might’ve been something going on between them before Lean married Stefan. Cursing Aurora might’ve really been revenge on Lean believing that she chose Stefan when it was really an arranged marriage, because marriages between monarchs was really out of forming alliances with other kingdoms. And Stefan forbid Lean and Maleficent from being together when he found out about them, and Lean either couldn’t or wouldn’t do anything about it. So Maleficent felt betrayed by her. And she cursed Aurora to spite her for betraying what they had.
In the animated film didn’t the fairies say that Maleficent knows nothing about love or kindness? Sort of shoots a hole in the prequel premise. If you become ‘evil’ from the betrayal of the person you love, you still know what love and kindness is, you have just chosen a different path. Plus if my sister married the guy who cut off my wings…..also wouldn’t my sister have to be a fairy?
Aurora’s mother was the daughter o the previous king in the Maleficent movie and Maleficent herself is a fairy how is it possible for them to be sisters. That theory could only apply to the animated movie if you consider them both as AUs (even if the theory is interesting, it’s was created with baseless assumptions and would leave only more plot holes.)
O my gosh u didn't! I was thinking of ways to expand sleeping beauty and my absurd mind thought of this a while back. Can't believe it's an actual fan theory tho! (Tho my version had to do only with the cartoon version. )
Live action movie is completely separate between the two. Also though Angelina was great the movie sucked. Also it was the blue fairy who change the curse to sleep not death.
So uhhh with the whole sister thing. Maleficent had wings and was a whole harpy sort of race, Queen Leia clearly doesn't considering she was clearly human. On top of that IF they were sisters then surely the Queen would have been raised like a fairy aswell meaning she wouldn't have needed Maleficent's help.
Can you do a video with how Scamp's sisters (who were originally 2 girls and two boys.) How they're names went from Fluffy ruffy and Scooter to Annette Collette and Danielle?
Maleficent is guilty of misplaced rage. If King Stefan had hurt her so badly, she should’ve cursed him directly and not his child. And while I think Maleficent was one of the greatest villains in Disney canon, I actually liked her developing a maternal love for Aurora. That was a change I approve of, though I wonder what kind of woman Aurora would grow up into under her darker influence.
It's my personal opinion but if a maleficent could go after sleeping beautiesleeping beauty's mother she would be cut because my represent wasn't in love with or a spotter he kind of determined
I like the live action and the "original" story, but I don't think they are the same Maleficent, or kingdoms. I see them as retellings to fit an era like the many Cinderellas and fairy godmothers. The live action is a different retelling to fit a political view, not a true extension to the overall story. The OG Disney Maleficent was better in my opinion. She was also more powerful and beautiful. And she is a gay icon, where as the live action is still cool but now is a woman icon, not a gay icon.
Uh the blue fairy Merryweather made it a sleeping curse. Maleficent in the cartoon was going to let Aurora die after she pricks her finger on the spinning wheel
Yes who betrays somebody but then that person helps them even after that betrayal and then not even getting invited even though she helped them have a baby like come on that's rude and mean of him to do that.
Maleficent did curse Aurora with death. It was Merryweather who changed the curse from death to sleep. Flora the Red Fairy gave Aurora the gift of beauty, Fuana the Green Fairy gave the gift of song, Merryweather the Blue Fairy was about to give the gift of happiness but Maleficent gives her curse of death before Merryweather can finish speakingher gift. Merryweather can't remove the death curse so she softens it to sleep until TRUE LOVE'S KISS can wake Aurora
The king was just a worker and wanted to help his famili or somthing and the past king told him he would exsept him only if he brought malificents wings to him and the Quinn was the past kings daughter so if the they were sister is wouldent maje sense why past king would live his child in a forest sinse fairis and the king were in a good alaince but in malificent two we found out malificent was a dark fairy wich was endangerd I think he killed them but he could not kill his child so he left her in the fores wich olso exsplains why she didnt have parents
Yeah no. None of this makes sense. There's so many details missing, lile the fact that aurora was actually cursed to die. She probably wouldn't help them conceive and they won't ever go to her for help. Most likely, if they seeked help, they would go to the good fairies. If you make theories, at least make them actually match the facts and be plausible.
Actually in the animated film, Maleficent did say that Aurora would die. It was Merryweather that made it so Aurora didn't die.
I think she knew that they were gonna do it that way
Maybe she timed it so that the last fairy could undo the death aspect
The live action didn’t even give the 3rd fairy her wish. It would of ruined mels change on the curse with true loves kiss timing 😅
Yup
Thank you I was like, false Merryweather lessened the curse with sleep and not death.
Maleficent didn't actually opt out of Aurora's death. The curse was that on her 16th birthday, Aurora world prick her finger on the spindle and die. The blue fairy changed the curse and made it so that the princess would fall into a deep sleep instead of dying upon pricking her finger.

In the Disney adaption, Maleficent is simply evil and that is why, not invited right from the beginning, but she shows up, nevertheless. See her name, she is purely evil.
The live action adaption gives her a magic back story and a reason to hate the king (and even moves perhaps a little bit too far, in my opinion....)
This is also close to the tale of Carabosse (the fairy's name in the ballet), which is derived from the tale "Princess Mayblossom". The fairy wants revenge because the king had played a trick on her.
Though, in the tale "The White doe" the Fairy of the well helped the Queen to convey the kid and got forgotten, and so she cursed the child in revenge...
Fairies are susceptibles XD
in the disney adaptation, I think she cursed the child not only because she’s simply evil, but also the fact that she wasn’t invited in general. She’s a very powerful fairy and not being invited to the christening of the King’s child would be offensive

A my opinion the live-action Maleficent movie doesn't add anything to the real Disney canon version
Maleficent and evil for Evil's sake. That's it

I've been imagining a scene from Anna's and Kristoff's wedding in which Maleficent, with her wings, appears and thanks Anna for the invitation, Anna replies that Maleficent has a reputation for being unpleasant when crossed and Maleficent sighs and says "I'm never going to live that down."
that definitely sounds like something she would say now.
@Ethen Allen true, but Maleficent is Mal's mom in all 3 live action descendants movies.
That made me chuckled a bit
@@elizapiotter1396 is descendants cannon?
Maybe invitations were a formality. Something to commemorate the occasion.
It was also considered incredibly rude and disrespectful not to give a fairy an explicit invitation to such an event.
In the myths fae are treated with the same respect given to royalty out of fear that, if they felt offended, they'd steal your children and replace them with changelings.
I think Maleficent should have just cursed stephan to die on Aurora's first birthday, that way, her vengeance would be fully appeased.
Oof
In one version it was 7, with Carabosse (the wicked one) being the 8th. I another is 12, with her being the 13th.
Charles Perrault wrought the original.
@@tylerpatti9038 exactly. The Grim Brothers based their version on his version.
SPOILER IF YOU ARE READING THE DISNEY VILLAIN ORIGIN STORIES BOOKS
In the book mistress of all evil: a tale of the dark fairy by Serena Valentino it said that before Maleficent turned fully evil she had a daughter with the help of three powerful witches and the baby was Aurora.
Also sadly this theory and the story in general just validates the saying "The child suffers for the sins of the parent"
@@tahirhasan1056 I think it's more pointed to the king taking advantage of her love for him
Maleficent always intended for Aurora to die, Merryweather was the one who changed the curse. I don’t think the live action retelling is canon.

The only reason they seemed like they didn't know much in the cartoon is because they switched up their roles for the day.

fun fact: the voice actor that plays the evil stepmom in cinderella plays maleficent in sleeping beauty :)
Wow. Just wow. This does make alot of sense when you see it all together
I always thought that maleficent was the queen's fairy godmother.
Except she DID intend to kill Aurora…that was the curse and the 3rd fairy’s gift altered her fate from death but sleep…
For some reason, I'm imagining Maleficent singing Satisfied from Hamilton.
I don't think it's really fair to go off face shape when it comes to early Disney films because in the beginning they were really bad with faces and they used the same design for basically everyone
I highly doubt they're related
What about Malificent being the actual ‘surrogate’ of Baby Aurora?
King and Queen: Throw Celebration for their new baby "Everyone is invited, open invitation"
Also the King and Queen: "Except for that person in particular!"
So they are both two different universe’s or could be two different time line’s.
how could Auroras dad and Maleficent be siblings? That doesn't make any sense.
Maleficent is one of the best Disney villains
maleficent sister Aurora King Stefan and queen Aurora my favorite part is your daughter Audrey rose from descendants you have a daughter
This is also technically a death sentence, so both statements from you and I are true.
she cursed aurora for revenge for betraying her
Sleeping beauty should do a live action! Or snow white or little mermaid too ! Who does the voice of maleficent in sleep beauty
There's maleficent, sleeping beauty 2014, sleeping beauty 1987, the curse of sleeping beauty 2016, those are all English i believe
Maleficent does cast to spell for Aurora to die It's after she's left and the three fairies come back and the third one still has her gift left and turns it from dying into sleeping until true loves kiss is given
I don’t think sisters. But maybe a great, great aunt or distant relative. 🧚🏻♀️
There's even some hints of this in the Descendants franchise because Maleficent, while acting all Mistress of Evil, showed a lot of love for her daughter in her own way, like in the song they sang together where Maleficent did comfort her daughter and by giving her the spell book, not so much for her plan to be free considering all they needed was the wand, but more for Mal's own protection while in Auredon where all would hate her for who her mother is
I could’ve sworn in the original tale the king and malefacient were siblings
What i know about Maleficent is that shes a kind antagonist
You said that Maleficent opted out of having Aurora die, but it was the fairies who had done that. Maleficent had always cursed Aurora to death and the last fairy is the one with her gift to change death to sleep. Everyone says Maleficent was the one who put her to sleep but that isn't true.
Because Maleficent is the only descendants of one and only phoenix . If they were sisters then queen should be one too.
If Leah is Maleficient's sister, then why wouldn't she be a fairy too? I think them being cousins is more likely actually not actually immediate family. That way you could have a family without fairies and one with fairies.
So I do believe that they could be sisters, they are both kinda bitter (descendants), they look similar. But Maleficent said that Aurora shall die
Did we forget the fact that Maleficent literally self-proclaimed herself as "Mistress of all Evil". The animation and live action are not coherent in storytelling. They were not meant to follow the same backstory.
I swear I remember "Disney's Halloween" special with the mirror referring to Maleficent and Brunehilde(Snow White's villainess) as sisters.
If that’s the truth, maleficent would be classified as the worst aunt like ever
First of all, it wasn't Maleficent who changed her mind on Aurora's death, it was Maryweather (the short blue fairy) who changed the original spell to make it sleep instead of death. Go back and watch the movie, and pay attention. Also, they're not sisters. I enjoyed the backstory with Maleficent and King Stephen in the live action, even though those movies ruin a lot of the story. I enjoyed her parts at least.
Since the queen is human and Maleficent is fairy, they must be half sisters or for some reason, the queen was turned human.
Just my humble opinion.
DON'T call it a prequal!
it doesn't deserve to be called that!
It's a retelling and a different cannon!
I like the theory but there are to many things contrasting between the animated film and the live action film! they are 2 differant to be the same thing
It's one thing to do that with Lion king 1 1/2 Because that feels more like Timone was just trying to put his own spin on the whole story and we could tell he was just trying to retell the story from a wackier perspective. however one could easily brush it off as just an exagerated story made up by Timone who tends to be dishonest anyways.
Since when are the queen and Malificent sisters?
I like the theory of Maleficent and Leah as sisters, my only point there would be that Maleficent is a fairy and as far as I can see or know, Leah was not.
So how would they be sisters.
Sleeping beauty was always my favorite Disney movie, my favorite villain Maleficent. I am however now more a fan of the Maleficent movies that explain her background, and how she became the villain in the first place.
The last theory makes more sense for maleficent, It's so petty and evil it's perfect. Give them hope, only to take it away.
LOL the side by side comparison... "The resemblance is STRIKING"...
PLEASE SPARE ME
Opted out of the death?
All they had to do was invite her.
What's funny is, my niece's name is Aurora. 🥂
I think she helped them, but I think you can't anyway relate both the clasic and the live action
That would be a great story
The original curse in the animated film was for her to die.
I like the theory that Maleficent is Queen Leah’s sister.
from the most powerful villain to a lizard lol
So uhhh with the whole sister thing. Maleficent had wings and was a whole harpy sort of race, Queen Leia clearly doesn't considering she was clearly human. On top of that IF they were sisters then surely the Queen would have been raised like a fairy aswell meaning she wouldn't have needed Maleficent's help.
She is a dark Phoenix
Oh yeah, thanks. I figured it was somewhere along the lines of magical bird creature.
That's not true . She was supposed to die but the other fairy changed the curse so she wouldn't die
It has to be said that there are no similarities between their faces
Been searching for the spin off for this movie can't remember the name. 🤦♀️

This theory is a lot of “what if” 🤷🏽♀️
Disney: stole her wings
Adults: druged her a ryped her.
I always thought the two of them were sisters.... idk why, I just assumed that lol
And she is a gay icon, where as the live action is still cool but now is a woman icon, not a gay icon.
that's, not the same canon. the animated movie and live-action movie are completely different continuities.
Uh the blue fairy Merryweather made it a sleeping curse. Maleficent in the cartoon was going to let Aurora die after she pricks her finger on the spinning wheel
...Um. I just watched this movie. Malificent DID say Aurora would ***Die***. The blue Fairy added on the "true love's kiss" thing?
_Godzilla had a stroke and fuckin died_
imagine: Maleficent vs Aurora Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr. Jr.😮
But her curse was death in the original
Did they really have to put the Umbridge fairy in pink though?😂
A lot of other people have already pointed out where your theory goes wrong you really need to do your research before you make a video
No it wasn't justified just because your hurt does not give you a right to hurt someone else
I want this fanfiction
Soooooo....we all do remember that these people are cartoons right? 😳
