I only went on a 144 once from Leeds to Keighley. I went on this train on this railway last month and enjoyed it!

Some people hate these trains but these have are unique as they are built on a freight chassis not a train chassis and have bus still sweeping doors.

To mention that is another "Pacer" out there with Layland Bus design that many people forget, perhaps more decent and confused within Sprinter Family that Is the class 155. Even a prototype for Intercity Coaches based on them was tested decades ago if some of you are old enough to remember.

Class 155 is a sprinter not a pacer. Class 153’s (which are basically one half of a 155) are also sprinters.

Newly refurbished Pacers would suite much better the needs of Marston Vale Line after the D Stock failure in the first place. The only fail on Pacers was the lack of decent investment to refurbish the class 143s/144s and withdraw class 142s years ago.

Pacer train concept should never be abandoned specially in favor of quieter branch and rural lines that for instance during pandemic restrictions were in some cases forced to close due to low number os passengers and obviously Pacers were out of use and the fewer to be withdrawn had to couple with complient reduce mobility standards units making trains even longer.

I am not a big fan of Pacers but as a railway enthusiast at least i love every single piece of railway heritage, even the less attractive but at the end of the day all contributed to this mode of transport evolution iccludding prototypes and failed classes whos projects helped to improve future projects in order to correct previous mistakes. Unfortunately a significant number of enthusiasts do not share the same respect and prefer to show their most fundamentalist thoughts against this machines and many others and that is such a shame.

You failed to mention the class 141s, older than these and were withdrawn a long time ago, delivered in green and white metro colours and one remains in preservation in same same colour as 144011.
One carriage in arriva livery is at ingrow from 143625 I think. You any idea why?

From my perspective what killed pacers appart from their long finished "use by date" was the fact they had a high step compared to the highest railway platforms inBritain, a fact that i do not really understand to be honest. We all know class 142s were clearly in worst condition and with a very bad interior design even compared to previouse versions such as 141, the latter featuring interiors more like trains than buses. But 143s and 144s were a step forward and despite sharing the same high flooring issue making them non compliant to reduce mobility requirements even featuring refurbished toilets as e saw on abandoned Evolution Pacer that sadly died on the shore.
