He'd just smile, wave or wink at them, whenever they recognized him first and whisper his Watcher identity and greeting, depending on how close they were to him, when he left. I also like to think that they forcefully took him but asked permission to make him a Watcher, to which he said yes for some reason.
I have a headcanon that they told him that the server was going to be destroyed, but he could help if he became a Watcher. This was, of course, an undercover threat, but at the time he thought the Watchers were trustworthy, so there wasn't really anything else he could do.
I don't know if it's cannon, but I believe it's because they said to keep the sever going, he had to join them That turned out to be the last of EVO tho

I saw this thumbnail at the end of one of your vids in jimmy's recent clip watching stream and I HAD to run right here this is such a big brained song/topic combo and you drew it so well!!!!!!!! I especially love the use of the link outfit, most people ignore it because it's a little silly for this heavy lore stuff, but the green in contrast to the watcher purple is so good visually. Plus it's a really lice transition from green (purity, innocence) to purple (lack of freedom, trapped by higher authority) and finally Grian's now standard red (raw nerves, bloody from escape)

I really love this omg! I feel the translations are accurate to whats being sung but also fit with watcher!Grian, I also love that you stuck to the original mv's art style a lot! I also love this part 2:17 because the whole faces-being-scracthed-out thing is on beat with the song! That shit is SO hard to pull off so I applaud you on that, 2:02 is also just such a great scene! The watcher looks more like a mother in that scene and it really helps showing the manipulation and stuff, I adore this video omg

I'd say that's a pretty cool headcanon! (It was that every evolutionist either became a watcher or listener) Another thing, the portal room closely matches the actual one! Every time I come and rewatch this I always have a big smile on my face. I love this so much it’s so beautiful and it portrays the watchers so well. Thank you for making this!! I do have a question though (don’t feel like you need to answer). I’ve noticed that Grian’s necklace changes from white in the beginning to purple. I’ve tried to figure out a meaning for it but I’m really bad at analysis or putting certain thoughts into words. Was there a specific reason you made the necklace change colors?
[tw: possible disturbing explainations, implied pain and suffering] so this wasnt canon or anything, i just put it in for a little detail! so!! you see how at the end of the first chorus, grian kind of got controlled by the watchers a bit? the purple meant to symbolized that the watchers have already 'planted' something(watcher's scent) inside him. which means he was always the watchers' only victim and he had no choice but to be a watcher. if he resists, the scent will grows inside him and slowly, painfully drag him down to become one of THEM.
